  1. by the way how are you getting these problems? they look fun
  2. Win the ace, ruff a club, trump to the ace, ruff another club, then play the king of spades and another spade, discarding the heart from dummy. Assuming east and threw an honor on the second club, this is the current position: [hv=pc=n&s=sjh654dqt8c&w=shqjt9dcqjt&n=shdkj976c65&e=shda5432ck7]399|300[/hv] East is on lead, with one defensive trick taken. If he leads the king of clubs next, discard a heart, and if he leads the ♣7 next, ruff and lead a diamond. East is down to nothing but diamonds and must give you all but one of the rest of tricks in dummy. If east leads a low diamond, win in dummy and lead a club. If east plays low, you ruff and give east his diamond, as clubs are blocked, so he plays the king and you discard a heart. He returns another low diamond (best), overtake the 10 of diamonds with the jack, ruff the last club and force out the ace of diamonds. If east didn't throw an honor on the first two club ruffs, the contract is easy as the clubs are blocked. If east throws an honor on the first club ruff (an expert play B-) ), this line will not work as you can not break the defender's communication in clubs. Therefore, after ruffing the first club, lead the king of trumps and then a trump to the ace. Play another club. If east plays the other honor (this guy is pretty good at bridge  ), discard a heart. East does best by returning a diamond. You win the 9 in dummy, ruff another club and concede the trump trick. This is the only way to eliminate all of East's exits. If he persists with a club, you still are able to ruff. East plays the king on the first club but low on the second one- ruff it, concede a trump (discarding the heart from dummy), and you must ruff the 7 of clubs but not the king. Normal play of winning the ace, taking the trump finesse and forcing out the ace of diamonds will not work because east will duck the first two diamonds and put you back in your hand with a club and you'll eventually lose 3 hearts and the ♦A
  3. hmmm, then there's 3 ways. The third way is to play a heart and discard the club. If west discards, letting east win the trick, east has to play a trump. Play low and if west plays low win the 10 and then the king, then you can do a trump coup against east. If west plays the jack on the second trick win the king and then run the 10. If west ruffs the first trick and returns anything, win in your hand (or in dummy if he returns a trump) and you can pick up the trump suit for no losers.
  4. that's one way, although at the third trick I ruffed a second diamond (same result)
  5. In the 5 card end position with spades trump, South needed to win 4 tricks with the lead in North: [hv=pc=n&s=sa987hdc9&w=sj6hdj7cq&n=skthkd65c&e=sq432hadc]399|300[/hv] There are 2 ways to win 4 tricks against any defense, what are they? Bonus: Construct the hands so that the best line leads to this end position
  6. West discards a club on the third diamond. You play a trump to dummy and play the jack of diamonds. West ruffs this low and returns a heart, which you must win in dummy. You ruff a small club, go back to dummy with a trump, and ruff another small club. You are now in the south hand in the following end position: [hv=pc=n&s=shjt98dc&w=sjh543dc&n=sahdcakq&e=shkdcjt9]399|300[/hv] Now you must lose either a heart or a trump.
  7. GIB was in 4th seat, vulnerable against not, and his partner GIB opened 1NT. [hv=pc=n&e=saxhqjxxxdjxcjxxx]133|100[/hv] He passed! 9 tricks in hearts were easy even on the best lead of a diamond but instead he defended 3♦ -1.
  8. yes because you cashed the ♥A at some point. you should have done the following up to this point: -cash 2 diamonds -play 1 top trump -cash 3 clubs -ruff club -play trump to king -ruff club -cash ace of diamonds after the 9th trick, right before you cash the ace of diamonds, this is what the end position looks like: [hv=pc=n&s=shjt9dac&w=sj6h54dc&n=sqhadj4c&e=shkqd87c]399|300[/hv] if west discards a heart, play a heart to the ace and cash your trump, giving west the last trick.
  9. cash two diamonds (key play to prevent west from discarding diamonds later and spoiling the timing) and play a trump to the ace. Now cash 3 clubs discarding hearts and ruff a club. If west discards a heart, play a trump to the king and ruff the last club. If west discards another heart, cash the diamond ace. Now if west ruffs, any return leaves dummy high and discarding a heart still only lets him have one trick. If west over-ruffs the first club and returns a trump, win it in dummy, ruff the last club (west can't over-ruff), play a heart to the ace and lead the last trump from dummy. East must discard from ♥K ♦87. If he plays a diamond throw the ace of diamonds and dummy has 2 good diamonds. If he throws a heart you must also throw a heart and your hand is high. If west over-ruffs the first club and returns a heart, win, ruff the last club, and cash the ♠KQ in dummy, the same squeeze applies. If west over-ruffs the second club and returns a trump, any return leads to the same squeeze against east. cool hand ^_^
  10. south is dealer? 1♣ - 2♦ 2♥ - 2♠ 3♠ - 4NT 5♦ - 5♥ 6♠ - 7NT 1♣ = Precision 2♦ = Natural, positive 2♥ through 3♠ = Natural 4NT = RKCB for spades 5♦ = 3/0 5♥ = Q? 6♠ = yes, no king 7NT = can count 13 tricks
  11. [hv=pc=n&s=sqt87hkj5d52cjt83&n=sakj96h3dakq4cakq&d=w&v=n&b=12&a=2h2sp3sp6sppp]266|200[/hv] GIB overcalls with about 28 total points even though he can be passed. X is much better as it may bring to light a minor-suited fit and GIB obviously wants to be in game. I stretch a bit to raise and GIB bids 6 even though 7 would be cold if I had ♥Axx instead of ♥KJx
  12. 1♣ - 3♠ 4♣ - 4♦ 5♣ 1♣ = Precision 3♠ = Any solid 7-card + suit 4♣ = Asks for controls 4♦ = No outside controls 5♣ = Signoff
  13. also I've never seen GIB ask for aces/keycards and follow up by bidding 7
  14. I remember this being posted somewhere before LOL
  15. also play 2♠ as showing 6 but I raise to 3♥
  16. [hv=pc=n&s=skjt97hj9dat4ckj3&n=sa842hqt6d72cqt52&d=w&v=b&b=4&a=1hp1s2sp4s(*)ppp]266|200[/hv] 2 spades showed a good spade suit and 12+ points (which I had). So why did north bid 4♠ with at best 9 points?
  17. [hv=pc=n&s=sj754hjt62dt86c87&n=sak9haqdk542ckj96&d=e&v=e&b=6&a=pp1sdp2hp2s(*)p3hdppp]266|200[/hv] GIB generally denies a spade stopper with 2♠, since with this hand he should bid 2NT.
  18. [hv=pc=n&s=sajhk6dqj842ckq98&n=skt98763ha832d5c3&d=n&v=n&b=5&a=pp1dp1sp2cppp]266|200[/hv] Also noted that GIB did not open 3♠.
  19. he could only be sure of 8 tricks though!!
