Joined in 2002, there were about 200+ players in the lobby at the european afternoon. I remember exactly my first thought after I saw the BBo table to the first time. The 10th anniversary of the BBO in not more so far away, ( April 2011?) so lets talk here about first experiences after joining, general thoughts, funny things, and may be some ideas for running special events, etc around this anniversary? Robert

I had to learn english bridge vocabulary from A-Z, but I knew the meaning of these 3 words immediately because they express the same in German language( Sektion, Region, Nation ) . Generally, my english is still pretty poor, but for sure on much higher level than at the time I joined the BBF.

I doubt that there are existing so incredibly detailed statistics about handball in Europe as in american football or baseball. / we are not so crazy in this point ;) / I know that in german top league the specialists in 7m-throw are in about 80% all throws successfull / per playing season.

This happens very often, but only in regular play, when the forward is able to jump high and the goalie remains on the floor. He throws from above through the keeper hands. Throwing 7m penalty one foot has to stay on the floor and the goal is 2m high. These are completely different situations.

in action, it's sometimes hard to avoid when all are in move and there is no time to throw exactly.

The goalie stands normaly in the middle of the 7m distance, if I would throw this way I had to do it hard, directly over his head, all keeper I play are about 180 and more. No way for it.

There is a gentlemen's agreement in our league >>> No strong 7m throws on goalies head.

I wrote some thoughts about this issue in Poland in the other thread. The format/system/way of the trials (Team Open) changed there every time in last years. Nothing helped, it followed failure after failure or desaster ( Estoril ). After all this, the solution was quite simple >>> take your by far best pair and let them play with whom they want (second pair). and? I think soccer will never reach the popularity level of the big 3 in USA, because of the lack of tradition and real professional structures. A several "older stars" from Europe who spend more time for PR actions than in play are by far not enough to change this. For the same reason baseball will probably remain forever only as "the strange freak game" in Europe.

I don't know, but The Pointer Sisters probably do, they sing "I want to squeeze you" :)
