Hi, someone asked me a question about itinery, I have nothing specific in mind, bridge, food, a few drinks and social gathering are what I had in mind, an opportunity to meet the people you play with face to face, I am of course open to ideas so please if you have something specific in mind, please let me know

Hi all, Just to update you all, I have a few more bits to arrange (i.e. tables cards etc) costings will be as small as possible, I have negotiated a function room for all day saturday and sunday, this should be ample in size for about 16 tables so that should give you some idea of expected number, the response so far has been steady (on a positive side ). cost so far £300 tables etc , I am stilll negotating, but this will not be anywhere as near this figure, so it should divide up equally, no profit or extras will be added, it willl purely be to cover the outlay for the meeting More info will be provided shortly (next few weeks) I am looking at the first weekend in august 5/6/7 2005, one thing I learnt long ago is that the dates never suit everyone, so apologys if the dates are not for you (nothing personal) here is the website of the proposed venue for you to have a look at costs for accomodation if required, day visitors are more than welcomed and encouraged http://swanrevived.co.uk/

1NT is a great bid, I have great fun opening them, I was taught, well may be taught is not the right term, I listened to lots of players that insisted NT Denies a 4 card major, since being converted about 12- 18 months ago I have never looked back, try them and see for your self. as for 1NT is a great bid it should be used wherever possible, I think it would be better used appropriately wherever possible, I am no expert though, as fluffy says he does not like them, he is an expert, I am good beginner / intermediate level, but I am sure that you willl find other experts that have a positive view on 5 card majors in 1NT openers. If your reg pard wants to try them, go for it, then decide, I think you will be happy with the result, you wont get any worse than experimenting

why does 4 diamonds = splinter? (or do your splinters show a void?) I thought 3 diamond showing good heart raise, would be first step, then cue bidding from there i.e. 1C - p - 1H - 2D 3D - p - (3H, continue cue bidding) ( or 4H) with 19 and a void, is RKCB still the way to go after a 4!H bid? what if pard bids 3NT or what if opp jumps over your 3 Diamonds with 5 of his own? or even what if pard bids 3 spades, with 2 Diamond over call may be you should not be looking for slam unless Pard is the one showing more interest. I have tried looking for slam many time after getting over excited with a similar opener only to find you go down in 5 or 6 I think 3 Hearts or 3 / 4S pades or even another Diamondd cue bid after 3 Diamonds is the only mildly encouraging sign to continue with?

if the split is 3/3 I doubt you would be asking the question :blink:) so I have not even considered it

lead Q from dummy first and keep leading from dummy (assuming you have enough entries) I think this will break most splits except AJ108 with LHO

that is the whole point of the way I did it before, the facility is there for you just to come for one day if you wish and not stay, hope you can come

Hi, About two years ago, I held a meeting in Milton Keynes for Internet bridge enthusiasts, the meet was from Friday evening until the Sunday afternoon, we hired a hall in a small hotel and all we did was play cards, go for a few meals and drink a bit, the weekend was successful, about 26 people in total turned up. I hired the hall and the tables, cards etc , the hotel arrangements were left for individuals to book their own rooms, I provided the link to the hotel for people to do this, I would like to arrange another one for the summer, the location in England could be changed but I would like somewhere easy to reach from London and far enough away to make it pleasantly affordable for all. We had about 7 people from europe and 2 from the states come to the meeting, the rest were from England, the weekend is made up and organised so that if people only wanted to come down and meet some friends for a day/ afternoon or whatever they chose, it would not be a problem. What I would like to know is do we have enough interest amongst the BBO community that would make the weekend a success, if you are interested, please post here or email me at wayne.mayer@btinternet.com or telephone me at 01908 613918 (my home phone number). I am happy to help with directions or anything else you may require when I have some idea of numbers etc if I have some idea of the numbers, I can sort out a room big enough to accomodate everyone and I can get enough tables to ensure we can play bridge, drink, and eat with friends until our hearts are content. if anyone from abroad would be interested i.e. you are in england on holiday or buissiness and you have an afternoon or one day only available you would be more than welcome. I would like to post a list of people that are interested here in the forums so others can see which of their friends are coming. anyone that would like to be involved in helping to orgaise this or has ideas about locations I am easy going and happy to discuss anything you think may make it better. as for cost, if you chose to stay, the hotel bills are yours etc, the hall hire etc etc, would be shared equally amongst us all. it cost approx £350 two years ago the hall I had would have managed 40 - 50 people so this will give you hopefully some idea of the cost. some of the people that came are in BBO and you are more than welcome to speak to them about what they liked or disliked about the weekend

Fred, nice one very smart move. I dont suppose you can make the field a bit longer for the alert info ? also the teleportation device is brilliant Hope we see some more of the same in the near future

If you had to chose one or the other as a reason why you are so good (if you care to admit it LOL) is it your bidding skills or your playing skills or your judgement that seperates you from the rest ? or a combination of all or another reason?

my view on misclicks is as follows. NO undos are granted for any reason, if you make a mistake this will teach you to be more aware next time... most misclicks are caused by, drinking coffee or doing something other than paying attention at the table, so NO undos, just be more careful

Hi, Just curious about what strengths you need to be advanced and what weaknesses stop you becoming advanced, what I am trying to get at is to become advanced is one thing, to become an expert is another, what in your opinion, are the qualities and skills you need to become advanced and what qualities and skills that you may lack prevent you from becoming advanced?

I voted for 1nt, there can only be 10or 11 points out there so odds are if your p has them all you get into 3nt if not they play 2 or 3 spades, I think x is wrong because you cant bid a suit after it ( well 4!C is not ny idea of a good suit) and if you x then bif NT (I think, but I am not sure it guarentees a spade stopper) waiting to be shot down in flames, but an opinion is an opinion LOL

I think the K hearts was misclicked on 6 or 7 round (I cant remember exactly)
