I know the feeling, took me a long time to figure it out. Think it is the only thing that annoys me on BBO, and it luckily happens very seldom. Mike :P

It seems that 1 ) is Imp-pairs and 2 ) is the one they use to compare regular Imp games. Mike :P

Most TD's know that I am always willing to help out, ask me and it will be done. Mike :P

We have to make this a regular thing where people come on tell there funny stories about tourneys. Since there are very many of them I am sure. And while we are at it have a winetasting event with maybe some bridge :D Mike :P

Many tournaments, many choices. You have to like that, something for everyone. My favorite would be regular size tournament, 26/27/28 brds with survivor mode starting after 4th round, when playing 3 brds a round. When playing 2 brds a round I would start after 6th round. But this option not avaliable. I generally start with 0% cut, and after 4th round I start cutting pretty big, coming down to like 8 tables with 2 rounds to go, and 4 tables in last round. Since I seem to be only one who does it like that I never get to play in one. Mike :P

I play with my girlfriend in real life and online, not very often but we do. I am gone most of the time I play with her, but we do play in the same house on occasion. We do worse when playing close to eachother on pc since we don't want any indication of what the other has. It's all about ethics, and I have no problem with it. Why even cheat at this beautifull game, it's much more fun to beat opps with your own bridge :) Mike ;)

Artificial Openings - How to Direct?
Trpltrbl replied to Yzerman's topic in BBO Tournament Directors Forum
Please spare me.... The Precision players do a MUCh better job disclosing their methods than those playing "standard". Some do, most don't. I run a lot of tourneys, or at least I used to. And it is always the precision type players with these problems, and they always come up with excuses, "undiscussed", no speakie English, thought my pd alerted, I forgot, we don't alert too much work etc etc etc. Come and play in my tourneys like that and `Fear the Reaper` since he will have no mercy at all. Mike ;) -
I would never ever X, everrrrrrrr. That being said, I really don't think that adjusting the result is going to make a lot of difference for N/S , a zero is a zero. And for the 3♦ bidder to run away, is bad bridge too. I would personally let the result stand. 2 Bad things even eachother out, don't they hehehe Mike ;) It's kinda that nowadays when people don't know what to do, they'll go for the "optional" X. It means something like this, I don't know what to do, pd, maybe you can do something and if not I can blame you for not getting the optional X. :)

Artificial Openings - How to Direct?
Trpltrbl replied to Yzerman's topic in BBO Tournament Directors Forum
I will and do penalize people for that, a lot of people that play precision or some relay system give the minimum amount of info they can get away with. Just so they know what is going on and opps don't. Sickning :) When I run my tourneys I tell players, to alert with FULL disclosure. If not and I get called, to bad for them, but they will lose most of the time. And I use, as a guideline, the Laws of Duplicate Contract Bridge 1997. I am not a big fan of precision type systems, mostly because of these reasons. If you play a complicated system, be prepared to answer many questions, and don't try to get away with something lame like "undiscussed", since next time that person will play in my tourney they better play a normal system. Mike ;) -
Just keep on laughing and seeing the bright side, there are and always will be some players that think the world revolves around them. And we all know that it is me the world revolves around :) Having fun in what you are doing is the most important thing Mike ;)

It's like playing in a real game where they have a few different sections. You might win your section E/W for instance, but come in the overalls as maybe 9th or so. The overalls compares everybody, the section just the people who played in the same line and direction as you. Mike :)

I forgot to put the SAYC auction in there. 1♠ - 2♥ 2♠/ NT - 3♦ 3♥ - 3♠ 4♠ - 4NT/ 5♣ and either way, you will end up in 6 of a major, making an overtrick. That's where you should be. Mike :)
-
2 NT should show decent hand, something like 13/14 count. I will rebid 2♠ with minimum hand, even if I only have 5. 4♣ looks very much like Gerber to me, since you haven't set trump suit yet. Playing 2/1 you can just bid 3♠ after 2 NT, and go from there. In SAYC it's harder, and if 4 NT was Ace asking and pd showed 1 you can't bid 7 ♠ gambling that pd has and the right Ace and all the other good cards he need for the Grandslam to make. You might as well have bid 7 ♠ directly, that has about the same amount of science to it :) Mike ;)

defensive bidding against NT
Trpltrbl replied to aisha759's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Capp against Weak NT, Meckwell in Passout seat. All others I play something I don't even know the name of. But it seems to work. Mike :) -
Helps if I know my opps, but since I don't I think low is the best shot. Mike :)

Weak2 response?
Trpltrbl replied to jillybean's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
3♠ to keep opps out of bidding or at least to make it harder for them to enter. I play 2 NT as asking for singleton, which can work really nice, and it also shows invitational hand. 3♣ I play as all GF hands, but only in 1st and 2nd seat, and is asking for a feature. Mike  -
3♣ is an underbid, good fit, singleton in pd's suit, and a nice hand. After 3♦ I will bid 3♥ showing cards in ♥ suit and max hand. Mike
-
2♠, no idea what good 2♥ can/ will do. After 2 NT I will bid 4♠, bid what you think you can make. Mike
-
2♥. Very close to opening 1♠ with ZAR points. I think I will most of the time. Mike

A Basic Concept...but one that is often....
Trpltrbl replied to keylime's topic in Expert-Class Bridge
It always seem that "experts" cry foul that fastest, if they get a bad brd against not so good players. Get over it, you'll more then likely get it back the next brd. Mike  -

Trpltrbl replied to keylime's topic in Expert-Class Bridge
I open 1♠ and I very very doubt that that is going to be passed out with opps having all the minor suit cards and 22 HCP. Mike  -
Personally I don't agree, but it must have worked for him, since he won a lot. I like to describe my hand as quick and easy as possible. But I won't never ever open 1 NT with 5-4 in majors. Mike
-
Zar system is easy to explain, you can play it with any natural system you want. Maybe even with the relays systems, but not sure, and to be honest not even interested in it. The whole idea is that long suits and Quick tricks play a lot better then having a hand that is balanced with with Queens and Jacks. I like it and it seems to work for me. But I am sure that there are other out there that find something else better or are more comfortable with. As long as I keep winning I don't care hehehe Mike
-
I can even make a grandslam with 10 HCP hehehe Mike
-
4♥ seems to be the right bid, but I think I will go with 3 NT, 1 tricks less, and very hard to stop. Slam is possible but not with my pd's hehehe. 6♦ bid what you can make, maybe 7, but my pd's never ever have the perfect hand. Mike
