  1. something like kqj - Kqxx Qtxxxx gambling on partner having some spades
  2. no I don't have methods to show this, which is obviously unfortunate on this particular hand, but that's just bridge. and I would lead Ace of Diamonds
  3. Personally I prefer simple Landy as a defence to 1N, but as Cyber says that needn't be an issue here, your partner screwed up. It's great to see new and enthusiastic posters on the forum, but from what i've seen you're a decent player with a not decent partner!
  4. it's club bridge people make mental bids all the time. if it's a world championships or some such then yes a penalty double here is probably not the best use, but against the random LOL's at most clubs I think it makes perfect sense. and sure partner could have some 5134 yarb or some such and you're stuffed but he could also have many other hands!! ps sure a 5 card heart suit is likely but for instance xx AKJ9 Axxx Qxx
  5. 4 spades seems quite normal you have a singleton and two aces. not saying it's always going to make, but yeah I think most would bid 4S in their sleep to be honest opposite a 4 card limit raise.
  6. Board 1 - I lead a low heart: Spade would be 8 tricks, Heart 11: Opps had a mixup about stayman but hey I don't think it influenced my lead Board 2 - I lead a diamond which I think in hindsight was just a mistake. My feeling at the time was i should just lead my strongest suit, but I missed the inference that there was no stayman so partner was likely to have a decent major. I have no idea why 2N wasn't raised to 3N btw, but it's not relevant. Board 3 - I lead the Spade Ace, which I think again was short sighted. It's an interesting hand and I'm not sure how it would have been played had I led something different, but clearly my lead wasn't optimal. For interest the hands are from here: https://www.bridgewebs.com/cgi-bin/bwon/bw.cgi?pid=display_rank&event=20191121_1&club=queenofhearts - and no this isn't to show our great results, we had a crap session lol Board 2, 7 and 9 for the three boards. Thanks, Eagles

  8. all seems quite normal than me, if all games were made 100% of the time bridge would be a very dull game!
  9. sure I agree people pretending and genuine cases should be treated differently, but Dave and John with beards etc that rock up to a women's event identifying as women, in the current culture is it really worth questioning it? could easily be looking at a lawsuit etc if you call bullshit on it.
  10. This seems to me like a curiosity question rather than mocking or some such. I agree that it's an interesting point, I am obviously far from an international player, but it's just clear that women events are far weaker in standard than open events (which let's be honest are 95% + male). this isn't taking anything away from the international women, who to reiterate the point are much better players than me, but if a group of men that were slightly below open team standard decided they were "Transgender" and entered womens trials, it could be a real issue.
  11. Matchpoints: X is just normal takeout double. unknown husband and wife opps [hv=pc=n&s=s965hajt976d2cj86&w=skq72h43daqt4caq2&n=sj83hk82d876c9743&e=sat4hq5dkj953ckt5&d=s&v=0&b=11&a=2hdp4sppp]399|300[/hv] I seldom if ever call director but I was tempted here just because of how suspicious I found east's leap to 4S. what are opinions on the bid - maybe my radar is just totally off or I'm irritated because we played crap throughout the session and I was stuck in traffic for an age afterwards, but I couldn't believe anyone could bid 4S here directly without some kind of wire!! Thanks Eagles ps I might have bid 3N as east but have no problem with 4S as a final contract maybe through 3H 3S 4S, it's just the leap I find hard to believe!!
  12. Just got back from the club duplicate, picked up these two hands back to back 1) [hv=pc=n&e=skq64hat3dak42ca8]133|100[/hv] 2) [hv=pc=n&e=skq95ha76dak84ckj]133|100[/hv] my first reaction was we were about to bid the same board twice, until I had a slightly closer look! the other hands bore no similarities on the two boards, so I suspect it was just a total fluke rather than some sort of computer error.
  13. there was definitely a topic on weak 2 club on here a few years ago dunno how to find it, but I remember finding it quite enlightening
  14. either he is the most ridiculous example of BBO world class ever seen, or he just decided to bid like a petulant idiot after a few boards.
  15. GIB is clueless at slam bidding in general, other than showing number of keycards. but if it's a situation where they have to show judgment then they're terrible, will bid on with hopeless hands and pass with golden hands ... and if u punt out 6 it'll raise you to 7 for no reason whatsoever some of the time lol ... nightmare!
  16. how to read your opponents cards by Mike Lawrence
  17. I really hate the "I should call director" shite, if you feel that way, then call director ffs. However, as others have said, it's much better if you can think without touching the bidding box!
  18. to be fair this was against real beginners, but playing MP they had some mental auction to 4H, which my partner doubled. It was obviously a penalty double at that stage, but my RHO asked me what the double was, I explained penalties (and elaborated i.e. my partner thinks we can beat the contract) and she went into the tank. I was looking at at least a couple of defensive tricks so couldn't believe she was considering redouble, and there was no other strain she could have reasonably considering. anyway, after a good two-three minute tank, out comes 5H! I mean it was -6 rather than -5 or something so made no difference whatsoever in the MP context, but it was somewhat hard to keep a straight face.
  19. Not a bug and yes the bidding is mad but hey was a fun one https://www.bridgebase.com/tools/handviewer.html?bbo=y&lin=pn%7Ceagles123%2CRobot%2CRobot%2CRobot%7Cst%7C%7Cmd%7C3SAQ6432HAK43DCAQ9%2CSJ9HJ6DT863CT8732%2CSKT5HT95DK52CKJ65%2CS87HQ872DAQJ974C4%7Csv%7C0%7Cah%7CBoard%201%7Cmb%7CP%7Cmb%7CP%7Cmb%7C1S%7Can%7CMajor%20suit%20opening%20--%205%2B%20%21S%3B%2011-21%20HCP%3B%2012-22%20total%20points%7Cmb%7CP%7Cmb%7C2C%21%7Can%7CDrury%20--%203%2B%20%21S%3B%2011-%20HCP%3B%2010-12%20total%20points%7Cmb%7CP%7Cmb%7C4D%7Can%7C0%20%21D%3B%205%2B%20%21S%3B%2021-%20HCP%3B%2018-22%20total%20points%7Cmb%7CP%7Cmb%7C4S%7Can%7C3%2B%20%21S%3B%2011-%20HCP%3B%2010-12%20total%20points%7Cmb%7CP%7Cmb%7C4N%7Can%7CBlackwood%20%28S%29%20--%200%20%21D%3B%205%2B%20%21S%3B%2021-%20HCP%3B%2022%20total%20points%7Cmb%7CP%7Cmb%7C5D%7Can%7COne%20or%20four%20key%20cards%20--%203%2B%20%21S%3B%2011-%20HCP%3B%2010-12%20total%20points%7Cmb%7CD%7Can%7C6-11%20HCP%3B%20rebiddable%20%21D%3B%20%21DKQ%3B%2012-%20total%20points%7Cmb%7C5N%7Can%7CQuery%20kings.%20Have%20all%20keycards.%20Does%20not%20promise%20extras%20--%200%20%21D%3B%205%2B%20%21S%3B%2021-%20HCP%3B%20%21SQ%3B%2022%20total%20points%7Cmb%7CP%7Cmb%7C6C%7Can%7CKing%20of%20C%20--%203%2B%20%21S%3B%2011-%20HCP%3B%20%21CK%3B%2010-12%20total%20points%7Cmb%7CP%7Cmb%7C7S%7Can%7CSignoff%20--%200%20%21D%3B%205%2B%20%21S%3B%2021-%20HCP%3B%20%21SQ%3B%2022%20total%20points%7Cmb%7CP%7Cmb%7CP%7Cmb%7CP%7Cpc%7CC3%7Cpc%7CC5%7Cpc%7CC4%7Cpc%7CC9%7Cpc%7CSA%7Cpc%7CS9%7Cpc%7CS5%7Cpc%7CS8%7Cpc%7CS2%7Cpc%7CSJ%7Cpc%7CSK%7Cpc%7CS7%7Cpc%7CST%7Cpc%7CD9%7Cpc%7CSQ%7Cpc%7CD6%7Cpc%7CHA%7Cpc%7CH6%7Cpc%7CH5%7Cpc%7CH8%7Cpc%7CS6%7Cpc%7CCT%7Cpc%7CD2%7Cpc%7CD4%7Cpc%7CS4%7Cpc%7CD3%7Cpc%7CD5%7Cpc%7CH2%7Cpc%7CS3%7Cpc%7CC8%7Cpc%7CHT%7Cpc%7CD7%7Cpc%7CCA%7Cpc%7CC2%7Cpc%7CC6%7Cpc%7CDQ%7Cpc%7CCQ%7Cpc%7CC7%7Cpc%7CCK%7Cpc%7CH7%7Cpc%7CCJ%7Cpc%7CDJ%7Cpc%7CH3%7Cpc%7CDT%7Cpc%7CH9%7Cpc%7CHQ%7Cpc%7CHK%7Cpc%7CHJ%7Cpc%7CH4%7Cpc%7CD8%7Cpc%7CDK%7Cpc%7CDA%7C
