  1. Guessing the 1S card was missing from partners bidding box
  2. Pass. yes we have the spades stopped which is nice but we have a minimum hand and no reason to bid on. If we have 3n on say then partner will take another action.
  3. possibly my favourite hand of all time involved a gambling 3N opening, partner opened 3N and I had something like AKxx Axx - AKQxxx, and we had had no discussion on followups so I made the practical bid of 7D, which fortunately made. A flat board when the other table had a much more intricate relay auction to the same spot! An unusual situation to say the least where my first bid in an auction was grand in an unbid suit where I was void :)
  4. AKQ832 T743 A3 2 opposite J4 KQ95 Q AK9753 North opens 1S and East weak jumps 3D ... a simple question: Which contract would you like to be in? At imps, and mp, is it different? Does strength of field matter? Thanks, eagles
  5. I really have no idea what the issue is here, 4C was alerted as Gerber (a very poor bid but so what) and this 4D bid got exactly what it deserved ... irl I guess you could have thought it was T85 - KJT9862 762 ... but harder to use that as an excuse on BBO :)
  6. [hv=pc=n&s=s52ha42dj5432cjt2&w=saj76h3dakqt97c43&n=st84hjt98765d8ck7&e=skq93hkqd6caq9865&d=s&v=b&b=7&a=p1d2h3c3h4dp5cp6cppp]399|300[/hv] Lead: low heart, result: Contract made. These are obviously world class players, but I found this board fascinating. Firstly I don't get Klukowski's bidding, why not bid 3S rather than 4D if you're going to ram it into slam anyway? And 6C seems very ambitious with only a low doubleton club and a likely heart loser. And Bessis' lead of a low heart ... again I don't get it, surely the Ace is a favourite to stand up given no heart cue from opponents, and surely it's better to hope there's some trick elsewhere for the set rather than I'm guessing hoping Klukowski had KJ and Gawrys xx and put them to an early guess? Anyway I just thought this was an interesting board! edit: Not sure how to put the names in the diagram but to clarify NS was Lorenzini N and Bessis S, EW was Gawrys E, Klukowski W
  7. I passed, didn't particularly like it, but it felt like the least bad option! Partner had: Axxx Jtx AKQx Ax so 4H was a trivial contract to get to regardless of opening bid. A few had 3H - 6H auctions which wasn't a success with West holding AK of hearts. A certain Mr. Rodwell was one of them! A few had to deal with a 3C opening on xx x Jxx 98xxxxxx but I had a look at what others did who didn't face the preemption and here's the breakdown: P: 10 1H: 11 2H: 21 3H: 37
  8. 2nd seat vul vs not MP, pass to you QJ Q987532 T2 KQ
  9. I bid 5, went 3 off doubled for a 10% board. A bit unlucky with a somewhat unexpected heart ruff in the non-opening hand (opener was 5521 or something). In hindsight I think 4 is better, yes it's something of a transfer to 4S as Mike says, but partner is still there and can sac in 5D if they deem it correct.
  10. These were both from a BBO ACBL tourny so the standard was low. I opened 4S, it wasn't the best contract but the lie was favourable and 10 tricks was 95% or so.
  11. Q 974 KQJT7532 K love all, pass 1S to you ...your bid
  12. 3rd seat vul against not MP two passes AKJT753 JT9 void Q63 your bid?
  13. [hv=pc=n&s=sj7hakj8654dakt2c&n=sathtdj9865ca9765]133|200[/hv] Bid this freak, starting with South! For arguement's sake, no interference.
  14. so you've bid highly questionably to a poor slam that happens to make ... great.
  15. continuing unopposed NS, 2N 3C 3H 4H.
  16. Sorry but I think this is a dreadful attitude. Yes it's obvious for you and me, but not for a new player, certainly not something I'd expect a beginner to pick up on.
  17. If you polled 100 experts I would put my life on the fact none of them would bid 2H, unless they had some kinda wire lol.
  18. Steve, the OP is a beginner player by his own description. The fact he's asked this question about whether it's a 2H overcall imo is a very positive sign. Let's not be too harsh and potentially put him off from asking further questions. A small Heart at trick one, and expecting to find the perfect defence is way beyond what a beginner player should be expected to find imo.
  19. That hand is only 11 points not 13, but it's a clear PASS. let's say the J of hearts was the K instead to get it up to 13, it would still be an automatic pass. The hand simply isn't good enough to take action on. There's a novice/beginner section on this forum which could be perfect for a newer player such as yourself. Always people on hand to lend advice and no question is a bad question!
  20. what's the rest of the hand? The answer could be pass, double or 2H depending on the distribution/quality of the heart suit, etc.
  21. one of my all time favourite auctions was when my first bid was grand in a suit where I was void. Partner opened 3N gambling, and I had a ton of tricks with a void diamond so just bid 7D. They led a trump and it was an easy make when partner had AKQTxxxx and the J fell in two rounds.
