I would bid 4D last train. We have a pretty suitable hand and I want to give partner a chance to carry on, but blasting out blackwood seems wrong to me, especially given we have no real idea what to do with the answer.

this is classic if it hesitates shoot it type mentality it doesn't matter if partner hesitated for half an hour ffs, we have the worlds most obvious 3s bid lol as others have said RESULT STANDS

to expand my feelings imo one spade is a "clever bid" that really isn't very clever. but the South player just shows a total lack of understanding of the very basics of bidding. whether they bid 2 spade, 3 spade, 4 spade, ***** 7 spades I don't care, they bid it and then SHUT UP. 2 spades then 4 spades in this situation just lacks any common sense. If they bid 4S straight up and it went bad okay, I can criticise the judgement, but at least it's sane. bidding 2 and then all of a sudden, after a totally predictable 4H bid coming in 4S is just clueless. I think the 1S bid was poorly thought out, but it's not insanity. The south bidding is the bidding of someone who is totally clueless about how to bid at bridge.

you might well have made "two major blunders", but your partner made the most major blunder there is in bridge, not being a good partner. I really wouldn't worry, we all make mistakes etc when learning, it's not easy! I think most people are welcoming to new players, but occasionally you get a see u next tuesday lol. better luck next time, I hope u have a better experience

good post Cherdano, I agree. I understand there are freak hands that are hard to deal with, but most GIB mistakes just seem to be the same old errors day after day after day. after a while it seems futile reporting them.

kinda both but I blame North more, imo vul at imps with a 5th spade and KQ of partners suit, he should just bid the game rather than mucking about with game tries

come on partner has come in VUL at the four level u have 3 card support and 3 quick tricks and can't find a bid. lol really?? I think the explanation is wrong for sure, but east must have something for a vul weak 2 (supposedly) partner surely has a reasonable hand for 4d and the 3s is "strong" how many points does south think are in this deck lol??

fwiw i think most would play 4N in your sequence as quantitative ...

i much prefer 1H to x from west but I think the biggest error in the auction is east's pull to 4s. 3N isn't a bid that asks for an opinion imo

well of course being in the UK too, I blame the heat! But more seriously this is all on your partner, they just have to be able to count to know u can ruff a spade, so surely as Yunling says, a spade is quite obvious!

3s is a terrible bid, punting slam would be more logical. But having bid 3s, partner has no right to bid 5, it's like the classic bad player auction [hv=d=n&v=0&b=1&a=3h3spp4h]133|100[/hv] just a complete no no

i'd want more than this shite to come in 2S here!! and I wouldn't bid 2D with ur partners hand either, but it is close, the fact it happens to work here is a complete irrelevance!
