  1. thanks all, the full deal was [hv=pc=n&s=saqj83h5daj94ck74&w=s5haq4dt7632caq92&n=s9762ht9862dq8cj6&e=skt4hkj73dk5ct853&d=n&v=b&b=13&a=pp1sd3sdppp]399|300[/hv] I was east, I put my hand on BW https://bridgewinners.com/article/view/bidding-problem-2-lls8r0qojx/ not many like my X, but 4H would do even worse! one of those things I guess!
  2. RIP to one of my dogs (twin border terriers) who had to be put down last week a month short of his 14th birthday. I know it's "just a dog" but at the same time it's really not.
  3. all vul matchpoints P P 1S 5 AQ4 T7632 AQ92 double is... Thanks, eagles
  4. because especially at MP which I usually play (although I don't play weak nt) I think it's solving a very minor problem to create a much bigger one. For example let's say it goes 1d - 1h - 1n uncontested. the 1n showing 15-18 what is responder meant to do with a random 8 count? with a 15-17 easy enough to pass at MP, but here partner could have 18 so can't really pass. Likewise you are opener, partner invites and you have 16 - do you accept, it's lower end of the range after all?
  5. 2c strongest, 3c GF, 4c natural probe. As to why no cues over 4C idk, as i said before, this isn't a strong pair.
  6. sorry i meant after the 4c bid - i.e. East tanked for at least 5 minutes before 5C. The rest of the auction was in tempo. 2d is just general relay - this pair don't play complex methods.
  7. [hv=pc=n&w=s8642h6daq984cj73&d=e&v=b&b=10&a=2cp2dp3cp3dp3np4cp5cp6cppp]133|200[/hv] spots are guesses. Form of scoring MP. If it's relevant West is much stronger than East, although neither are amazing. there was a long hesitation after the 4c bid - this pair would almost certainly play 4N as blackwood/keycard in this auction if it matters. I didn't call TD because we were doing ***** anyway and I couldn't really be bothered, plus I tend not to call director in club duplicate anyway unless it's something outrageous (overcalling 2s vul after 15-17 1n (BIT p) p on a 5422 5 count springs to mind) anyway my question on this is two fold 1) your opinion on 6c bid 2) when putting down dummy, W made a comment along the lines of "there's no point being in 5 of a minor at matchpoints, is there?" Let's assume his hand was blatantly taking advantage of the UI (a different hand maybe), and 6c happens to make, is this a valid excuse? Because I've seen a lot of players (this is a mixed field) having that approach and just blindly raising 5m with no reason. Thanks, Eagles
  8. in my opinion the wide ranging 1N rebid is one of the worst conventions i've ever come across.
  9. in my opinion yes, unless the hand is truly exceptional - xx AKQJX Qxx xxx for example I would open 1H playing acol, but for 95% of hands with 12-14 and a 5 card major I would recommend opening 1N It's a hotly debated thing, others I have no doubt will disagree with me, it's just my opinion :)
  10. should be 6 here, because if you have 5 in that scenario you'll either have a balanced hand (yes you should open 1N with a 5 card major), or a side 4 card suit you can bid, or you'll have 4 card spade support. it's different if it goes lets say 1H - 2D because here you might have to rebid 2H with a 5 card suit if you're for example 4522 12 count as you're not strong enough to reverse into 2S
  11. it's the kind of bid imo in club bridge most people will make, but i really hate.
  12. I agree with others that 3D probably wasn't the best bid, but partner made a far worse mistake in passing it out!
  13. I think a relevant point for the OP is with over 300 votes on the BW poll, only 15% are bidding 1S because they believe it to be worth a strong NT and would rather bid their spades, compared to 31% that think its worth a strong NT and bid 1N. Of course in that 15% there are some very strong players, but it should give an indication of expert opinion on opening 1N with a five card major. I have also learned from this, I didn't think of the advantage to this hand declaring, and I just looked at AKTxx in a 17 count and thought 1N was a joke. I would still upgrade but I see the flaws to the hand.
  14. I have put a poll on BW: http://bridgewinners.com/article/view/what-is-your-opening-bid-and-why/
  15. the hand is way too strong for a 15-17NT imo.
  16. Not really that challenging, I'm sure Fantoni - Nunes would have got there easily
  17. yes nige is correct with the distribution - I guess the moral of the story is when things look hopeless, think about what could go right - and here the layout was perfect for me, and brought in 100% of the matchpoints
  18. [hv=pc=n&s=sak72h32daj953ck6&n=sj4haqjt7dkqcqt87&d=w&v=b&b=4&a=p1hp2dp3cp3sdbl4dp6dppp]266|200[/hv] The bidding is almost unrepeatable, and NS had a mix up with 3s, with South thinking it was natural and North thinking it was "4th suit forcing". Anyway You're in this spot which you'd rather not be in! West leads the 2♣ (4th best leads) to the Ace and your 6, and the 4 of clubs is returned to your King and West's 5. At this point if trumps split, we can cross to dummy, draw two rounds of trumps, return to hand with a spade, draw the remaining trumps and hope for the heart finesse to work. However, disaster, we play a trump to the 6, K, 2, but on the second round of trumps It goes Q 4 3 and west pitches the 3 of spades. Is there any way to make the contract now? Clearly we need the heart finesse to work, but is there anyway to avoid giving East a trump trick with their T8742? What hand do we need them to have? Does the opening lead make this possible? Regards, Eagles
  19. That is amongst the more idiotic of your posts, which for you is really saying something
  20. we played against Cayne - Versace and Pepic - Zoranovic (Serbian Juniors) result: BBF Win! 58-57 some really interesting boards, and a great result for the forums! regards, eagles
  21. well I answered semi forcing but the correct answer is not sure, since I've never played forcing NT
