Anyone playing in a team with a pair who they know (or strongly suspect) to be cheating is an absolute disgrace.

There could be bridge at this tournament so this is a relevant post, right? LONDON! -
Firstly, football not soccer B) ! Secondly, you are not entirely accurate. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/athletics/3670825.stm

If someone is found guilty of cheating in any sport they should have all previous accomplishments stripped. So if B-L fail to clear themselves on appeal they should be stripped of the 2005 Cavendish along with any other pairs and teams successes they have had.

Agree. I think it should only be autofinished when the round times out and every single possible play of the cards leads to the same final number of tricks.

Thanks for link - good interview by David. Do you think this publicity will be good for bridge?

Big article in the Daily Telegraph today, One thing I have always wondered is: In athletics there are certain competitors who all other athletes "know" are using illegal performance enhancing steroids, but can not prove it. Is there a similar situation in brige, where certain top pairs are at least widely suspected of cheating? Not looking for names here, but would be interested if a WC player could tell me if such suspicion exists.

What ONE book would you recommend?
Deanrover replied to SoTired's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
He should buy " The Two Over One System" by Mike Lawrence and Bridge Base. It is the equivalent of a 1000 page book, very detailed and has lots of excellent quizzes - the only choice in my opinion. -

What to assume?

My hand was ♠ ♥ T874 ♦ AT43 ♣ A9762 Vul all white. Does this change anything? -
A slight problem is that not everyone plays as well as deep finesse! I must have explained badly, sorry :P I'm talking about the situation where, no matter which cards are played the same number of total tricks end up being made. So for example if there were 5 tricks to go and South held all remaining 5 trumps, then no matter how good or how bad a player he was (and you can't revoke on BBO anyway!) North-South will take the remaining tricks. Or, slightly more complex. South is playing in ♠ below, with West on lead. No matter what, N-S have the last 5 tricks. It would be a great shame for this not to be scored because someone disconnected/someone didn't know how to claim/opps were deliberately stalling etc. [hv=d=&v=&n=shdc76543&w=sh432d43c&e=shdcakqjt&s=sakqhadac]399|300|[/hv]

It is really darn annoying when the tournament clock ends when on the final trick. Fred's point about loss of control is fair, how about in tournaments BBO lets the players complete the final trick at their own pace - but - if the tournament clock ends after the end of the 12th trick then the final trick is automatically played out for scoring purposes. This idea could be extended. When x cards have yet to be played when the round ends, if every possible permutation of actions leads to the same number of total final tricks then that number of tricks should be scored. If x<5 this is by definition true. But it could be true in extreme cases for x=52. DF could ascertain whether such a "solution" exists for the actual x, and in the vast majority of cases it would not be too computer intensive. Perhaps DF would only search for a solution if X<25 otherwise it could encounter a really nasty hand that mucks everything up.

What to assume?

Why do you assume he doesn't have a trump stack? If I was playing with a regular partner I'd interpret his bid thus, but playing with a random? -
RHO opens 4♠, which gets passed around to your p who doubles. This is an individual tournament and you have never played with your p before. What factors govern whether you take his bid for t/o or for pens?

Indy tourney. Imps. Red v. white :) Qxxx J98xx K QJx You pass, p opens 1 ♦ and rebids 2 ♣, what is my move now?

You can change the gender and speed of the voice in Windows XP under Control Panel -> Speech -> Text to Speech. "Microsoft Sam" is the only option on this PC? Can you download other voices?

Download BBO Software
Deanrover replied to Zloty's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Have you tried going through http://online.bridgebase.com ? That might well solve the problem. -
How has no one mentioned that the voice is the same as Stephen Hawking's?
-
Also, when receiving a PM, there should be an option to hear who it is from (for those short of sight, or looking away from their PC). e.g. Fred (lobby) : Hi Dean would be "Fred says Hi Dean" in voice if the option was selected.
-
On a serious note it is annoying when the voiec is half way through one message and you receive another. The voice just switches to the new message, cutting short the original.
-
This is so funny. Type in " ", hear "Colon, Left Parenthesis" Cool.

When you are playing a tourney it is nice that you can see the results of the boards already scored. A sweet little addition would be a line at the bottom that showed your average MP % or cumulative IMP score. Obviously we could just do this ourselves, but especially in longer tournaments having BBO do it automatically would be neat.

Was quite a common problem
