I have much less time than I would love to, to participate, but when I do have time, I think it would very good especially for Vugraph :-) Nice idea, Dean :P Come in now Mauro. Lets work towards a critical mass.

If I am needed and can get cheap flights and accommadation I would be willing to cover the final few days if enough interest is expressed. However, I have a few possible family commitments so we will have to see.....

Hi Caren, IRC = Internet Relay Chat. A system of chat rooms. There are a number of programs that will allow you to connect to IRC. One of them is MIRC. You can download it from http://www.mirc.com/get.html Install it and run it. Enter your details in the boxes provided. Then click "connect to server". Click "file" then "connect to server" and choose efnet. After it has connected a box should pick up saying "Enter a channel name and click join:". Enter "#bridgebase", and you should be able to see me. Dean

How much interest would there be in setting one up? I just started #bridgebase on EFnet so please come in and say hi! If there is interest I will see if I can get it set up with a couple of bots, channel operators etc.

Sometimes when I am playing with humans I will get stumped on a decision, think for a minute, not come up with a satisfactory solution, but play a card anyway because I feel pressured into it as it would be rude to delay the opponents for too long. This issue doesnt arise with Gibs. I am also free to take a break to get a drink, speak on the phone etc. whenever I please. I can skip uninteresting boards, never have to be dummy etc.

Score goes to whoever started the hand. This is to stop people leaving in the middle of a bad hand to avoid blemishing their records.

Fred - are you accepting suggestions for alternative names than "full disclosure"? Don't really like the name......
-
Click to Read About Full Disclosure This has the potential to be a very valuable tool. Have had an ephemeral look at FD: i) It would nice to say what a bid denies as well as what it promises. E.g. 1♣ - 1N denies a 4cM. The description area is available for this, but being able to enter this info in "logic" format would be beneficial. ii) Hopefully some individual or group will produce "sayc" "2/1" "precision" FD files which can be d/l from bridgebase.com and then played around with by the individual. What would also be nice is if it was programmed so that you could download ewxtensions to your current system, e.g. you could download sayc but then download "inverse bergen", "grand slam force" FD files and merge them with your sayc file to produce a hirsute system. Otherwise it is just gonna get too tricky for the average user. What would be great is if this became the standard convention card program. So, before a tournament, partnerships are required to submit their CCs in FD format. FD would then present these in a printoffable format. Just think how great this would be when watching vugraph - BBO automatically displays the meaning of Meckwell's bids! Good work. BBO is the Google of bridge.

Tells me to check I am connected to the internet, but as you can read this, I am B)

Often there wil be multiple simultaneous vugraph broadcasts and I have little preference which to watch. In such cases I want to watch the broadcast which has, imo, the best commentators. Could this be made available when you scroll your cursor over the green line please? Make sure to implement a method to differentiate between kibitzings yellows who are "off" and those who are "on"

Credit to HedyG for finding the winning lead of a low ♣. [hv=d=w&v=n&n=sj83h653da85432c3&w=skqhkt9742dj9ca64&e=st974hj8dtckjt985&s=sa652haqdkq76cq72]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv] West North East South 1♥ Pass 1♠ Pass 2♥ 3♦ Pass 3NT Pass Pass Pass

Choose "total points" rather than "mps" or "imps"

Email Uday@, he is the man.

♠ KQ ♥ KT9742 ♦ J9 ♣ A64 You open 1 ♥ at IMPs, all white. You rebid 2 ♥ or partners 1 ♠ only to hear LHO overcall 3♦ and RHO bid 3NT. What now? Edit: Your partner is a BBO Champion ("Star").

Gib would fail the Turing Test due to her bizarre bids. Jack passes it as it plays sayc/2o1 type bidding systems tonnes better than Gib

I tend to agree about the sounds ;) but surely it's not that difficult to find the way to change settings?-- it took me about 2 minutes the first time i logged on  Many people's technical skills are way below those of most people who use this forum. I am lucky enough to have been brought up with computers - by brother got one for his 6th birthday (I was 3), we had IT classes throughout my education, every job I have had has centred around a computer based workplace etc. My parents who by no means have zero computer skills would have a lot of trouble adjusting the sounds, especially my mum.
-
I played with a friend earlier in the week who had downloaded BBO on my advice. He said "this software makes me want to vomit" and when I asked why he cited the sounds. Thw default setting is for all the sounds to be checked and this is overwhelming and offputting. IMO the default should be a half way house, with some of the sounds selected, but most not. Some which should be selected imo: Private chat message received Your turn to bid or play. Alert Explain Call Undo/Claim/Redeal It is worth considering having "ignore lobby chat" selected as default too.
-
Has this software re-write made it easier to incorporate other bots into BBO? The increased competition would be useful on many levels.
-
Implementing the "Claim" function which works very well in Gib proper would be great. In the partnership bidding area you can't click the "GIB" button to adjust his (her?) speed. Also you don't seem to be able to set your system or GIB's which would be very valuable. The partnership bidding is very temperemental. I am trying it out with Beto right now, and it only works on half the hands, have to "redeal" the rest. GIB doesn't explain its bids. When you click on one for an explanation it asks you to explain! Don't seem to be able to include GIB in teams matches. This would be a great addition.
-
This has potential to make tournaments run much more smoothly - very exciting!
-
Am playing at a table with 3 GIBs at the moment! Can't see how to select your convention card or how to see/select your opponents B) This has a lot of potential - especially for partnership bidding. Kudos to Fred, Uday and Gerardo!

[hv=d=s&v=e&n=sj9hak84daj9862cq&s=sak5h765dcakt6543]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Long auction, opponents silent, you wind up in 6 ♣, West leading ♥Q. What is your play?
