Would be interesting to see MPs as the default and see how that changes things.

Good luck to Team Ekeblad

21 ahead with 13 to go. Fred = on fire! Allez Allez Allez!!!!!! -
Weird stuff. If you select "join xxx's table" then everyone at that table becomes your friend "turns purple anyway" and you can't deselect most of them (but can some). Log out and then back in and they are no longer your friends.

When watching vugraph, click "table" and you get the list of all currently showing vugraph shows. Right click on one of the green lines and some weird stuff happens. It is as if you have right clicked on someone names. Move your cursor to a different part of the line, and you get a different person.

Earlier on I logged on from my P.C upstairs and tried to watch Vugraph, but got the "End of current deals, all future hands will be randomly dealt" notification which normally occurs at a teaching table. Went for a walk, logged on a different P.C as Deanrover - got same problem. Logged on as Deanrover6 at the same time and got into the other room no probs. So went into the same room with Deanrover - same problem :) Logged in and out of both rooms as Deanrover 6, then tried again as Deanrover and all was fine  Then found that only the first 5 boards were scored IMPwise, after that there seemed to be some sort of disconnect between the rooms.

Originally all were ungagged and it was terrible, terrible and terrible. This was back in the day when BBO had at most 500 people online.

Surprising. I always thought it was the other way round.

Can't grumble about the semi-finals! Even the technical problems were beautifully timed to add to the excitement. Gl to Fred against his old team. -
Lots of people play for fun. IMPs requires less concentration. If you are in 4 ♠ and have 10 top tricks you can relax, whereas in MPs you have to decide whether to try for the overtrick.

One of the world's great card playing scandals could be resolved after more than 40 years with the revelation that one of the players involved confessed to cheating. Two leading bridge players from Britain, Terence Reese and Boris Schapiro, were caught signalling to each other in the 1965 World Championship, causing headlines around the world. The scandal shook the image of the British as a nation which believed in fair play and led to a year-long inquiry by Sir John Foster, QC for the British Bridge League. The investigation cleared both players but the verdict was never accepted by the game's international governing body. Now a close friend of Terence Reese has claimed the player confessed to him but told him it was all part of an experiment to prove cheating was possible. David Rex-Taylor, a publishing executive who partnered Reese at bridge, said: "He confided that in the 1960s he had been planning to write a highly researched, in-depth book on cheating at cards and other indoor games and activities, commenting that cheats should be pilloried and their methods exposed." Both men were banned from the game for three years and Reese, who died in 1996, never returned to the world championship stage. Schapiro died three years ago but yesterday his widow, Helen, said: "At no point did Boris admit to cheating in Buenos Aires. To the contrary he said there was never any impropriety."

You are not thinking about this is in the right way. Inflation has nothing to do with it. See why?

No problem if they don't post a picture of themselves. A picture of a rabbit or Britney Spears or David Beckham etc. somehow makes me feel like I know them better and that they are more real.

Am watching the vugraph and think it would be nice in "big deal" mode to see photos of the players next to their names. Not exactly sure of the psychological reason why, but it would be nice :) Would also be nice for BBO members to be allowed to choose their own picture/avatar, this would aid recognition and I suspect it would lead to friendlier games. Somehow I feel more at ease playing v. a pic/avatar, it makes my partner/opponent seem more "real". The downside (particularly for the latter) is the amount of moderation required. Given that this is only a "frilly" idea it probably won't be implemented for some time.

Is functional, but no more. It is very bland and this might be imposing to someone looking to get into online bridge who has no prior knowledge of the sites. Most of BBOs competitors have better sites  . There is probably some young whizz reading this forum who would be willing to design a nice website for a cheap price/free, or you could hire someone relatively cheaply. I think it would be worthwhile, and if they design it well it should be easy to maintain/update.

So was my hand consistent with my bidding? I thought double was the most flexible action as it would allow partner to pass in what could be a horrible misfit for both partnerships, whilst it kept open the possibility of playing in clubs. Also, when in doubt, if double is one of the options, I double ;)

What do you guys think my sequence (x followed by 3♠) shows?

I receive regular tournament spam from clubs I have no even joined. I thought it would be easy enough to circumvent this by making the spammer an enemy and checking "ignore chat from enemies", but alas that does not block mail messages :)

According to this survey, London is ludicrously expensive, Vienna ~20% cheaper, and Glasgow ~10% cheaper still.
