  1. His daughter is Jan Martel.
  2. Congrats to the team on this milestone. Amazing for those us who remember 'back in the day'. Its taken a lot of work from a lot of ppl, not just the owners but also lots of amazing volunteers like Rain, Ben (Inquiry) etc. and it must be very satisfying for all involved. Here's to 20K in the future! Dean
  3. Why are you hosting this in Coventry? That's one of the worst cities in the UK, I really think you would get more people together if you did it in Edinburgh or London......
  4. Had no idea any of this had happened, sounds really upsetting, much better just to lose in the first round. Trying to look at things in a positive light - does this mean that BBO will have the benefit of your expert vugraph commentary?
  5. Will the restrictions on financing of online gambling affect BBO at all?
  6. Would you be interested in hearing this? Methods of delivery would be i) Call a number from skype (piece of software free to use and download) ii) Make a phone call (Only from US, UK, France and Germany I think. Local call charges apply).

How different are Go and Chess? p.s. Diplomacy is fantastic, we should arrange a game......
  8. That is because you are an active member. My trust is based likewise, and I have met FnS multiple times and also done work for them. I think, however, if BBO ever introduced tournaments with a reasonable prize (say $1K for first place), and F,S or U ever won it (likely as they are excellent players), people would cry foul. I hope I am wrong.
  9. Let me state - I am certain that there is nothing dodgy going on. But, it is not standard practice in the online gambling world for the site's employees to also play on the same site. I dont think people will kick up a big fuss over a $10 prize money tournament, but when the $s start getting bigger it will look potentially suspicious to many people.
  10. I believe they gender test every 'female' olympic athlete. Princess Anne was an exception.
  11. I think in all sports they should only test for performance enhacing drugs. So for athletics, how much weed you have in your system should be irrelevant (people have been banned for taking this performance DEhancing drug before!), and for bridge drugs like weed, steroids etc. shouldn't be tested for unless they can be shown to assist performance (I know a number of top players enjoy the odd joint, and at least one of the very top players always plays stoned, he/she finds it help performance).
  12. I had to give my table tennis table away today :)
  13. That was a good game. Nice to see our younger brothers doign so well
  14. btw my advice is to add songs that you like rather than artists, I've found this leads to something much closer to what you are looking for.
  15. This is a fantastic website with an extensive list of music (excluding World and Classical). You tell it a song or band that you like, and it plays you music with similar characteristics. As you tell Pandora more songs that you like, or you give it a thumbs up/down on the songs it plays for you, your own personal radio station adapts and improves. It is free. You can also share your radio station with friends. For example I created http://www.pandora.com/?sc=sh29624289 Mainly Stripped down easyish listening indie. Dean
  16. I go to sign in to BBO (Test Server). Get the usual 'BBO has downloaded a new version.....click here to install message' but then, 'NSIS Error Installers corruptes or incomplete This could be the result of a failed download or corruption froma virus. If desperate, try the /NCRC command line switch (not recommended)' I then tried to log in and it works fine?
  17. Longer tournaments would do well I suspect. Say you have a 25 minute sessions as normal, but then 25% of the field gets chopped, then a 5 minute break, then a 25 minute session where 25% of the field gets chopped etc. - it could prove really popular. You could have a 'big one' every week with a $200 + 15 entry fee, so the top prize would end up being very wortwhile (perhaps 6K if you got 100 entrants) - you would know better than me Fred, but I would think this would attract some well known players, which in turn would attract punters. People would buy directly into the tournament, but you could also offer satellites throughout the weak (e.g. a $22 buy in, 10 player tourney where the winner gets to the Big One).
  18. You should definitely offer higher buy ins. If you enter a $1 then you are looking at winning $3 net at the most....not that thrilling for most of us. I'm sure you will eventually get business for $100 tournaments (and likely higher too). I think the % cut you take should go down as the buy in goes up. FWIW the schedule of most poker rooms is something like 1 + .2 5 + 1 or .5 10 + 1 20 + 2 30 + 3 50 + 5 100 + 9 200 + 15 500 + 30 where the first figure represents the amount that goes to the prize pool, and the latter the amount that goes to the house
  19. I cooked enough for about a dozen portions, but I will present the recipe as cooked for 4. Firstly, I made the green curry paste. Most people will just buy the paste, which is perfectly fine, but this time I made it fresh. http://img374.imageshack.us/img374/7946/picture0386cb.jpg Ingredients (From top centre plate, clockwise): 1/4 of a cup of chopped garlic 10 hot green chillies (the little ones), unplugged. 3 table spoons of chopped challots (alt. onions) 1/2 teaspoon of cumin Chopped coriander roots, 1/2 teaspoon lime rind, 1 teaspoon galangal (alt. lemongrass), 1/4 teaspoon pepper 5 unplugged, deseeded Jalapeno chillies (preferably green) 2 tablespoons of lemongrass You should use teaspoon of shrimp paste too, but I substitued with soy sauce. Get all these ingredients together and grind them witha mortar and pestle. Alternatively use a food processor to get it into a paste, which should look something like: http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/4735/picture0412nl.jpg Now, onto the curry. http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/6766/picture0436hu.jpg You will need: 250g chicken breast Some combination of Coconut Cream/Coconut Milk/Milk adding up to 1.25 litres 1 large Aubergine 4 Jalapeno Chillies (Pref. Green) 4 tablespoons of thai fish sauce (alt. soy sauce) 1 tablespoon of sugar Basil The juice from the lime whose rind you used for the paste Heat 500 ml of coconut cream (I used coconut milk) until it is boiling heavily Add the curry paste and stir well, it should be nice and fragrant Add the chicken and boil until cooked Add 750 ml coconut milk (I used soy milk), the fish/soy sauce and the sugar, stir well. Chop up the Eggplant into bitesizes, and add to the mix. Boil for about 4 minutes - but be careful! Too little and it will be flavourless, too much and it will be soft. You will just have to use your judgement to see what amount of time is right. It shuld look something like: http://img392.imageshack.us/img392/2861/picture0467vp.jpg I now like to leave the curry off the heat for an hour. I find this lets the various flavours infuse bet, leading to a tastier curry. Meanwhile you should be cooking some carbs to accompany the curry. Rice is the norm, but I find couscous goes great. A dutiful host will provide his guests with an alternative: http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/3245/picture0473xe.jpg Bring the soup back to the boil, add the chillies (deseeded and chopped), lime juice and basil. Serve the rice/couscous one a plate, with a generous portion of curry in an accompanying bowl. http://img102.imageshack.us/img102/9002/picture0500ej.jpg A fine English ale does go rather splendily with the dish. http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/8463/picture0516jx.jpg
  20. Currently no tournaments in play or pending :)
