  1. Playing 12-14 NT. A 5233 minimum would look like QJ752, A3, KQ4, QJ6 Also do you ever open 1NT with 5 card majors?
  2. Regardless of system there will be hands which can't be handled. --------------------------- Flat hands play poorly. Treat 4333 as 3-card support. This is a good hand. Force to 4♠ with this hand. Kxxx, Qxx, QJxx, KJ This is a problem hand. I have no ideal how many tricks can be made in spades. And it may be dependent on opponents' patterns. ------------------------ I have never seen this sequence written up completely. What exactly does a standard negative double look like? What's the ideal pattern and HCP strength? Yes, but how does opener rebid with a 5233 minimum?
  3. Big hands aren't the problem and they occur with low frequency and it is possible to find a massive fit. It is the weaker ones which are hard to bid. x, xxxx, AQJxxx, Qx. If this hand doesn't fit well with opener's, let the opponents play the 3 level. There isn't sufficient bidding room for us to be certain. We could pass first and compete if they try to stop in 3♣. x, xxxx, Qx, AQJxxx. With this hand we are just frozen out of the auction. It is unlikely we belong on the 4 level in clubs. 4. In an unscientific study(sample size too small) fewer than 20% of boards are played in a minor. Does anyone have a large study on this? Under my methods these hands are unbiddable. Assuming you have 6 card minor with 100 honors, these hands usually belong in notrumps. Don't think any system has a way to stop at 3♦, when that is the last makeable contract. 2NT can be artificial showing an minor. With a spade raise show the 4+ card side suit. With a 3-card spade raise double first. 1♠ - (2♥) - X or 1♠ - (2♠) - X These auctions shouldn't be a traditional negative double. It's not asking opener to rebid a minor. It's mostly shows a 3 card raise or some strong hand with no other convenient bid. Opener would still rebid the minor at the 3 level with 5-4.
  5. 1. ♠ AQJxxx ♥ x ♦ KQxxx ♣ x 2. ♠ AQJxxx ♥ x ♦ x ♣ KQxxx If opener has hand 1, you want to be in 6♠. If opener has hand 2, you want to defend 6♥X. If you had bid 3♦ on your first turn, opener would know whether to bid 6♠ or double 6♥. With 6=1=4=2, you usually want to defend.
  6. I have already suggested an alternative. 2♠ was hearts and a minor. 3 of a minor by us should be 4+ of that minor and 4+ spades.
  7. The frequency of key voids is very low. The frequency of opponents bidding as if they held them is relatively high. 6♥X may made. Just like my chances of beating 6♥.
  8. I hate the 3♥ bid. Now we know very little about opener's hand. Don't know RHO's minor. It is just a guessing game. Rather bid 3♦. Show partner my side suit. Then he would be better placed to bid over 6♥. Double 6♥. They are sacing. Doubt if 6♠ is much better than 50/50.
  9. ♦7. Go completely passive. Just hope to not give them a trick on opening lead.
  10. xxxx __ Axxxxx xxx I don't agree that this is a weak hand. The bridge world is overly obsessed with HCP. This hand has more slam potential than Axxx x KJTxx xxx. Voids in a side suit are good for both offense and defense. HCP and trumps are the two primary variables for estimating tricks. Flatness/skewness is the third variable. Extra length in a side suit is the fourth. The third and fourth variables in the 4063 hand is very strong.
  11. 6-4 in two suits. One extra playing trick. 5 controls. 2 for the ♦A and 3 for the heart void. Seems to fit the bill. Will pull 5♣X to 5♦. Plan to pass 6♣X.
  12. This is a blind spot in many player's game. You lead. Declarer plays immediately from dummy. Partner also plays immediately without fully thinking out the situation. Partner should wait 30 seconds before playing. Don't fall into the trap set by declarer playing quickly. CSGibson is right. Partner cannot have ♠K and ♣K, as he would have misdefended. You cannot assume partner has disdefended.
  13. You guys should start playing fit showing jumps. Partner would then bid 4♦ instead of 4♠. The problems would be solved one round earlier. Also, don't pass even if the pass is forcing. A forcing pass implies 2 small in opponents' suit.
  14. May not be exactly 2/1. Q5-87 and 85-Q7 should be equal. 5-Q87 is a freebie. Why didn't your teammate lead his singleton club?
  15. If you have already shown 3 card support during the auction, leading low should promise a queen or higher. Lead high with 3 small. Partner already knows the count.
  16. I'm with fromage, start with 1♠. Would only bid 2♣ with 5 clubs and 4 spades. Since I disagree with the first call, the continuation makes no sense to me.
  17. The truth is few of us have had much experience playing against 2NT, 5-5 5-11 points in the minors. On this board clubs seem to make 7 to 9 tricks depending on the opening lead.
  18. This thread was started by MrAce. Were you his partner?
  19. 3♥. I'm an underbidder. Like to maximize my chances of a plus score. If double guaranteed 5-5 in the majors, 4♥ would be clear. Don't think the ♦Q or ♣J is worth much for offense.
  20. You confused. 31.25 is probability two equally matched teams will each win 3 of the first 6 games in a 7 games series. Don't bother calculating the probabilities. There are tables published. Just memorize them.
  21. For fast arrival players it is well-defined. It is a hand poorly suited for slam.
  22. Only in an auction where neither partner had bid NT. On this auction it shows where the values lie.
  23. What's 2NT? 1S - 2D 2H - 3NT ?? What would 3NT be?
  24. 1M - 2m, 4M What does 4M show with no bidding from opponents? On the OP auction opponents interfered. Now what's the likelihood of you holding the big hand? Definitely less than 3% chance. Probably less than 1%. While the likelihood of the North hand is high.
  25. South 100%. West's double says suits are breaking badly. South has poor spade support and too many losers in hearts.
