Hi, Yesterday I played at a table and used old vugraph deals as a deal source. Unfortunately I cant find the hands when I open my hand records. Thnx for your help in advance. Yordan

I would open 5♦ too. Un 8 card suit headed by the Ace surely has to be trumps. If I start with 1♦ and it is our hand, it is very likely that they will often preempt and I will be left guessing anyway whether to push for slam. Not to mension that they will often find their cheap sacrifice. If it is their hand (not likely), they will have a hard time finding their fit at the 5. level. Un upside is that they will have absolutely no idea what to lead or which is my second suit.

Hand 1 is surely a slam try, probably no shortness otherwise you could autosplinter. Hand 2 is invitational

Since 2♠ shows 5+♠4+♦, W can place the contract in the known 10 card fit instead of the 8card fit

Very close between pass and X, but I would pass. Transfering to ♥ is horrible IMO.

I would certainly open 1N as South, and if partner doesnt find an invitation, I guess we will end up playing 3NT. Playing a strong ♣, I think we will certainly reach 6 after: 1♣-1♠- 2♣-2♥ 2NT-3♣ 3NT-4♣ (RKCB with 4♦ minimum) 5♣ (2+Q)-6♣

And what do you rebid after 1♣-1♦ with 5♥s and 19 points?

Agree with the overcall, but will certainly pass with N over 2♥. Bidding 3♦ on a lousy 5 card suit, when having 2 low ♠ and 9 from 10 points in their suit is just insane to me. Partner will often get too excited thinking I have some useful cards for offense and when he has a ♥ void, he could pull 4♥ X, or bid 4♠ before I can double. The defense is just insane, I guess you somehow offended your partner and he is now making it clear that he doesnt want to play with you ever again.

I think partner is interested whether or not I have ♦ control so I am bidding 5♥. If he wanted to invite he would have bid 5♥ or just asked for keycards. I agree I have a very good hand for my bidding, but since my partner had taken control of the auction, I will just tell him whether I have ♦control or not.

I can only recommend you to download the vugraph files from a good tournament and try to play the hands yourself, (if you click on the declarer you will see only his cards). Then you can compare your play with the play made at the table and see what you could have done better.

Thats a great hand for a 1st seat preempt at favourable. I would have opened 3H.

4♥. 3♥ is un underbid, 3♦ is forcing but will only complicate things (and partner may jump to 4♠ if he is 6-4), and considering any other bids is madness.

3♥. Unfav. I would open 2♥

3♠. This 100% agrees ♥ and after the possible 4♠ by overcaller I can RKCB. If I start by 2♠ partner could think that I have a very big hand in the minors when I bid 4N so I dont want to risk a misunderstanding.

At IMPS I would rather bid a contract that is worth a game bonus, even though it is not certain to make, then underbid with 3♥, or try 4♥ so that I can often play in a 7 card fit with a bad trump split. At MP I might pass or bid 3♥ depending on my mood opponents and vulnerability.
