  1. It appears we (most of the responders) are treating the auction (P) P (1♣) ? exactly the same as - - (1♣) ? The former suggests to me that we are in a part score battle vs the latter where we are just probably in a part score battle. Should we choose 1♠ blindly in this case or does a TOX lend us an advantage in possibly finding a game say in an auction that looks like this (P) P (♣) X; 1♥ 1♠ 2♣ ? Do we upgrade the hand now to a 3♠ call? presummably the other auction could have been (P) P 1♣ 1♠: (X) 2♠ (P) is it easier to move now?
  2. I would expect partner to bid again in the pass-out seat. It is seriously bad bridge to allow opponents to play 2♥ when we have a known spade fit and both sides have 20 points or so Had I opened 1♠, partner should be happy to bid 2♠, so why pass now when I have shown opening values, heart shortage and a spade suit? Rule #1 - Trust your partner Tony Because you might not have a spade fit. I assume you are objecting to the possibility of playing a 3-4 ♠ fit (apparently my definition not yours) but guess what if you bid 2♠ because you have 4 with a minimal hand you still may end up playing a 4-3♠ fit. IMO if you bid 2♠ with no extra values you are bidding the same values twice.
  3. If south opens North South - 1D 1H 1S 2C 2H 4S If south elects to pass North South - P 1C 1S 3S 4S
  4. clik and drag over the area preceding this to see my opinion. Vuroth suggestion for 2-2 ♥ is the best line if you can manage the entries to try both.
  5. you need to add some structure to your responses to a TOX. In the particular auction you are showing the responder should assume that you have a minimal TOX and respond accordingly. Since the TOXer has support for all unbid suits the responder treats his response like partner had opened that 4 card suit. So 1♠ generally is less than a constructive raise(could be 0) and promises 3+ cards only. 2♠ is a constructive raise and 3♠ would be a limit raise. Now with a minimum TOX the rebids all show xtras even in a competitive auction so (1♥) X (P) 1♠; (2♥) 2♠ Shows extras, about a K extra.
  6. Is there something unique to the simulation where you get less 16 point hands than 17 point hands which a priori strikes me as being against the odds?
  7. Since it is "totally unexceptional" Does that mean you are passing or do you think you can manage a little raise?
  8. 4♠ all partner needs for a reasonable shot is K♠,Q♥,and K♦
  9. actually think that is the drain line and the source pipe is not visible
  10. Generally IMO it is penalty. Of course in this particular case the X was mistimed and should have happened a round earlier and not now.
  11. Of course there are but they are so rare you've never seen one <_< I will give you a 4333 version ♠AKQ♥AKQ♦AKQ♣AKQJ :)
  12. I would consider 2♣ NV but not since we are V it is a free shot at -500 for them when the other table will not even be bidding game.
  13. ...on who I am playing with and whether the system is built to handle an opening. IMO I don't think I can open this hand using any 2/1 system.
  14. I am partial to 1♦ (P) P (P) but I will try to bid the unseen hands :)
  15. I take the push since I was going to force to 4♥ anyway
  16. Playable options look to be X,4♠, and 6♣ probably in that order of preference altho X and 4♠ are close. The advantage of X is that you probably will get a chance to bid 4♠ on the next round :)
  17. If I am standing close to a train track and I hear the whistle blowin' I ain't inclined to run out onto to track to try and cross the bridge.
  18. Definitely a 1♦ opener with a NT rebid ;) You mean you are downgrading to 11-13? Bit excessive IMO I did not say a one NT rebid I just said a NT rebid probably two
  19. BINGO! especially if the xxx in Axxx is actually 234. You are leading away from your most probable entry and before you do that you really need to hold spots that justify that kind of risk. AT98 vs Q432 is much more tempting.
