Is T-Walsh GCC in the ACBL, or mid-chart? Dan
-
Hi, Standard American is only really bad if your partner is a standard american. There is no difference between acol and sayc overcalls, at least as far as general style. Find a partner who likes to overcall more and play with them. Dan

Since when is free AVG going away? I thought it forced you to upgrade to 7.5 soon but that it would stay free. link to AVG 7.5 free Dan

Yet another reason one would want to see the friend/enemy status of a director on the tourney description. What if a director was too fascist or lassez-faire with the banning for your tastes? Hard to know that if the director is not logged in. Dan

Hi Uday, I can't give an unbiased opinion since I like to kibitz a lot, but this idea sounds good to me. Surely the great majority of the body of cheaters would be weeded out that way. But it would lose the ability to state "kibitzer-free" as an advertising draw, if it is one. Dan

Ditto for my records.

I agree that FD is a good stab but is not as satisfactory to the opponents as would a lee edwards type of WBF convention card (a la OKB's ACBL CC). I am one of the few who really fill it out to an insane degree but I use it more to practice and record intricate systems. Can BBO consider development of the "old style convention card" into the above-mentioned wysiwyg graphical one? Opponents as it is can't be trusted to click the extra [...] buttons anyways. Dan

Show the time per round on a tourney description. Some directors are conscientious enough to type that in their buffer, but most are not. Why would I join a tourney that was too slow for me to afford to play the whole time? And it seems simple enough to show.

preempt 4th pos?
DJNeill replied to jillybean's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Nice bid, well done. I don't open preempts in 4th seat with non-regular partners because of what I think is a 10% success rate. Even when they know it's intermediate it differs how strong they think it is. -
Hi, I was disappointed to find out that the promise of the ad on the ACBL homepage was not masterpoints for sale. But what a good idea! :-)) Dan (the image)

Hi, Suggest that for the period of time between registering for a tournament and the start of the tournament, at least, the partner becomes a new color toward the beginning of the lobby list. After the tournament starts, the id can return to its prior status. This would presumably be a very important person to talk to during that period of time. Dan

Hi, Currently in the tournament description area, there is a little lock icon if the tournament is restricted somehow. There may be room up by the tournament host name for a little happy/frowny face to indicate if they are friends/enemies. That way, we can remember which hosts we like to play under and which we don't. Dan

Hi, John Hodgman (The Daily Show's resident expert, plays the 'PC' in the Apple commercials) wrote a New York Times magazine article about bridge in 2003. If you missed this, it's online at http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html...755C0A9659C8B63 Dan

Hi, There is a new book that goes into an exhaustive demonstration of almost every sequence that is part of SAYC. I got it, and I would highly recommend it - even then, you will find people who have a different understanding of SAYC. Standard Bidding at Bridge with SAYC - by Downey and Pomer http://www.bestwebbuys.com/Standard_Biddin...l?isrc=b-search Dan

Hi, There are two players at our club that have a habit of writing down every bid, and the opening lead. They will put their cards down, pick up the special scoresheet that has a long row for the complete auction, write the bids down as they occur, and when it gets back to them, they will put that scoresheet down in their lap, pick up their cards, make the bid, put the cards back down again, pick up the scoresheet out of their lap, and monitor the bidding. Before the opening lead they will not write down the contract, but just wait for the opening lead. Then they write it down, write down the contract, pick up their cards, and play. I don't know why, but this is really annoying. They have done this for years and haven't gotten (as I see it) any better at bidding. One is a psychiatrist so I know it's just a habit with him :-) Dan

Hi, This is an old harmless one. Before ACBL tournies, everyone gets this: "Please note that your convention card will default to SAYC if it is not set to something else." This should only go to those playing, and not everyone at the tournament room. Dan

Hi, Suggest option to display T instead of 10 when viewing newspaper column style cards. Dan
-
Hi, There should be an option for ghoulash deals at tables, at some point. Dan
-
Hi, We have the options to a) include friends b ) exclude enemies c) include our language d) include our country e) include a playing level f) include players in a file g) exclude players in a file h) include players in a club Does anyone know the effects of combining includes/excludes? I would like to build a list of includes but demote any bad apples over to an exclude list. Friends/enemies don't allow people to be in both lists, but custom lists don't have that relationship. It would be nice if excludes were top priority. Thanks, Dan

Hi, The FD card can be set to auto-display to you, your opponents, your partner. It would be nice to be able to somehow get the bid to be highlighted in the auction area as if you had clicked alert in the bid box. Sometimes I forget to click alert because I am relaxed from any obligations because of FD, and I have had many director calls because polish club was not alerted but they were using FD so it showed in the top left. Players sometimes just don't notice that part, but I think the alert in the auction box is unavoidable. Thanks, Dan

I downloaded and installed it fine.

BridgeHands Audiocast/Podcast
DJNeill replied to BridgeHands's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Hi M, Great broadcasts with Kantar! I thought it was great to hear his views on all sorts of bridge topics. Dan -
Hi, Suggestion: somehow one click takes you to the other table of a team game. Thanks, Dan
-
Hi, When I scroll the chat area when watching a table, using large chat font, the far right fourth of the chat remains the same as it was for about 1 second, and only then does it catch up with the scrolled chat on the left area. Also, suggestion - option to turn off emoticons - I think all IM programs make that optional. Even this forums has that option. Thanks, Dan

Hi, I don't know if this is the way it was before, but the cards played to this trick, in the middle of the table, in big deal, are not vertically centered in their rectangles. They are hugging the bottom. Thanks, Dan
