While nasty convential responses are fine, the most effective thing about them is that they make the auctions competitive, which will make life harder for the opponents (regardless of their system, tbh, but especially against systems where perhaps the opponents cannot draw all the subtle inferences they can when their space is limited). Just bid against their artificial openers and they will have a tougher time. I personally like a style with natural overcalls... against NT I like dbl is majors and NT is minors. EZ game.

No but my partner would never lead 9 from 9xx. I thought the right play was to play 4 rounds of ♠ and pay off to some weird hands where they take 6♦ tricks and the extra ♠ trick is their 8th. It's just so much more likely we have 6 tricks than it is that they have 7 and need the ♠ for 8. I also think everyone suggesting the NT bidder is 4144 is mistaken way more often than not; I assumed he was just bad at bridge and/or thought transfers applied so he didn't know what 2♥ was. I would never have switched to a ♥ at trick 2, nor would I duck the Q of ♠ or the second round of ♠ giving dummy an extra entry. Anyway, like you said this is twilight zone and not a bridge problem. The bidding was wrong and partner's lead was wrong, so how can we be expected to know what to do?
