Kind of a funny hypothetical: What if teams didnt ESTABLISH? link
  7. This is so out of touch with reality though, and imo represents everything wrong with the collective impression in the bridge world that we NEED YOUNG PLAYERS THE GAME IS DYING ITS SO NICE TO SEE YOUNG PEOPLE PLAYING BRIDGE. No, Barmar, we don't need young players at a world championship to "shake things up." That's just terrible. And as Justin points out, we aren't seeing the same old pros every time, though the ones we do see every year are there because obviously they deserve it, and that's exactly how it should be. If we're using your tennis analogy, would it be interesting to see the Aces play the Blue Team for decades? ***** yeah, it would. It would be awesome. Rivalries are great for sports. But bridge around the world has gotten really good (and is still getting better!) and so we see lots of new faces every year. That also is great albeit in a different way. It doesn't matter who is playing at the end of the tournament, we can be reasonably certain the show is going to be of the highest quality.
  8. The question I have and the reason I'm mocking the quote is why would more juniors at the event make it better? Because it's so nice to see young people playing bridge? Great. Just great. I just think it's completely ridiculous to make accessibility to juniors specifically a priority in deciding the venue for a world bridge championship. Accessibility/affordability for the greatest number of people? Fine. But even if you held the tournament every year in the busiest college cities in the world, you'd still get like 1% of participants as juniors? Oh the injustice of making a world bridge championship inconvenient for college kids.
  9. As a fully employed young person, there is no way I can afford a week in Norway or India or Orlando or even at a hotel just down the street, either. I know for a fact there are a lot of other recent-juniors who feel the same way. I think the only solution is to stop having bridge championships.

    RIP

Oscar Taveras, Cardinals' slugger, only 22 years old. One of the MLB's brightest prospects. Too young; RIP
  11. To add on another idea that I typed but deleted, I think OJ in the Naked Gun stuff was very similar; I don't want to imagine anyone else playing that specific role, but a replacement in a redo would be easy enough to cast.
  12. The stories notwithstanding, is that true? It is remarkable how perfect AtG was for that role, but impossible seems like an overbid for a recast. If we're going for a literal giant, Yao Ming could definitely bring some silver screen lols.

Fun weekend of football

  17. man, ole miss and miss state are legit. its hard to imagine that bama or auburn aren't even a top three team in their conference, let alone the country
  18. and when bama indeed drops to like 7th and you think to yourself "lol bama is better than half the teams in the top 6" this will be a perfect example of a team that suffers a loss early on and climbs back up the rankings with solid play the rest of the year
  19. after this week i got auburn mississippi state baylor ole miss florida state notre dame alabama TCU michigan state Oklahoma Oregon Aggies Georgia Arizona Ohio State Oklahoma State UCLA Kansas State Arizona State East Carolina order not exact
