Comments go to kibs if kibs is selected. Comments to table go to table.

1N-3C* 5-5 Ms invites game. Partner is best placed with deciding on game or not.
-
You might also like to know that 'yellows'(people that work for BBO) nicknames appear with a yellow background. You can ask them and they will be willing to help you.

A crown means they are the host of the table. A star means they have represented their nation in international competition. A number shows how many master points they have won on BBO. Lower numbers mean a few BBO points. An 8=300 MPs. A 9=500 MPs. 10= 1,000 MPs and higher numbers show 1,000 more(11=2,000 MPs)

Advice on Playing online

Try the relaxed club. -
xyz when z is a suit
spotlight7 replied to rr9000's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Bridge World suggested "any three bids at the one level including "pass in competition after opening" counted to be able to start xyz. -
Does this convention have a name?
spotlight7 replied to misha_aus's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Kickback uses the agreed suit +1 as RKC. It also allows asking for the trump queen after the RKC ask. -
Soloway Jump shifts. 1D-2H and a second jump shows a solid suit and partner should be able to bid slam.

When not to takeout double inSAYC
spotlight7 replied to johnblu's topic in Natural Bidding Discussion
The problem often gets worse if you double here. If you leave partner in some number of hearts, it will often be a 4-2 fit. A rebid of 1NT after you double shows @18-20(or 19-21 if your 1N overcall shows 16-18) Your partner is correct, pass and await developments. -
inverted minors
spotlight7 replied to dickiegera's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Without other agreements, I like to use jump raise to suggest partner ask for keycards. I also strongly suggest Kickback. Bidding one above the trump suit at the 4 level is keycard. You might also try narrowing the opening ranges. 1m-2m-bidding the next step shows a min. hand Bidding two steps up is a GF. -
Strong 2NT Responses to Weak Twos

Fumble fingers. 3M-1 is the invite. :) -
I suspect partner will get ulcers playing in 4-2 fits.

Strong 2NT Responses to Weak Twos
spotlight7 replied to theo_16's topic in Natural Bidding Discussion
I use transfers starting at 2N*=clubs. It allows partner to run from 2M. If I return to your suit next, it invites game with values in the transfer suit. A bid of 3M-1 invites game. -
1D-1H, 1S-1N playing weak NTs
spotlight7 replied to straube's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
KS uses a weak NT and they use 5-8 for a 1N reply. Their 1N rebid shows 15-17 so you can adjust your range to 6-9. -
Sorry I bid hands with the man that runs the site for over a year over a decade ago. REGRESsion is likely closer spelling. We played a Forcing Pass system at the local club in the late 70s. The TD had us ask permission to play it at each table. Only one pair declined. So we exchanged the Pass and 1C* bid and used the same methods. :)

You might like REGGESSIONsion. It is an amazing Forcing Pass system.

2C opening - would you be happy with this auction

Put WC beside your name and repost the same comments. You are very unlikely to have anyone grovel. They will tend to post the same comments. -
2C opening - would you be happy with this auction
spotlight7 replied to thepossum's topic in Novice and Beginner Forum
You are no where close to a 2C* opening. It is supposed to be strong and forcing. If they bid 4S next, do you feel that you can defeat 4S? You should open 1H and you are likely be able to show both suits if hearts are not raised. -
A TD should issue a severe warning for a first offense 'of trying to mislead by a pause.' Second offense should be 50 lashes. It is against the LAW and spirit of bridge to cheat. Pausing in an attempt to mislead is never correct.

2D shows @10+ in competition. 1NT* is natural here. 2/1 game forcing only applies in non competition auctions.
-
Reese played the Little Major in International competition. 1C=Hs, 1D=Ss, 1H=20+ and 1S=minor/minors.

Google Baron Barclay. You can sign up for their free bridge problem hands. Bridge with Larry Cohen also offers free bridge lessons. I would cruise a used book store. Almost anything by Reese, Kantar, Mollo or Mike Lawrence should be worthwhile.

The number shows the number of master points that you have won on BBO. The number represents various groups of points. An 8 shows 300+ points. If it was a 2 it likely indicates 1+ master points.
