  1. There has been a study about IQ and browser usage here: See the paper Are you still satisfied with your choice?
  2. Only if the Democratic party is unable to put the blame for crisis and to the recession caused by the shortening to the Tea Party and Republican party.
  3. Let them make a list of the login names, you can enter these names into your friend list.
  4. I blame North. He's got no defense trick (it's quite sure that West can ruff ♥ if he runs to ♠ ) and he knows that partners values are in front of the stronger opponent. He's got a 6 card ♣ suit and all smells like a great ♥ / ♠ crossruff play.
  5. Shouldn't you include into your assumptions that West is unlikely to have single kings in ♥ or ♠? Leading ♦Q suggest the hope to have 2 entries to use the developed ♦ suit. So West would need 2 out of: ♣Jxxx, ♥Kx, ♥Kxx, ♠Kx, ♠Kxx or ♠QJx Assuming at least 2 cards in the majors 2-2-5-4 is the only shape that allows 4thJ♣, if it's likely 6♦ that shape is impossible.
  6. I would conclude that: Any sufficiently advanced bridge is indistinguishable from cheating. Note that advanced is relative to the observer. ( Any sufficiently bad bridge is indistinguishable from cheating too.) Bridge is a game where you benefit from experience. Since every player has different experiences, they might make different decisions. This is experience is not only about hands is is also about opponents. So if you don't know, if people at the table know each other, you might nto know that one of then has a tendency to bluff or false card. Others at the table (esp. in the MBC) might already know. This could lead to decisions others can't understand.
  7. If it help to beautify the numbers include teams with a female player. But I expect that won't help much.
  8. What is the percentage of African Americans in the open event? Of American Indians? Of various other minority groups? At least the low percentage of women is partly due to a women's only event - wtf excuse does the ACBL have for the ridiculous under representation of these minority groups? Didn't you realize that women are the majority group (51%). Rules for minorities don't apply to the majority. I don't know the numbers, but I'm sure that seniors are also a majority group. Juniors are a minority in the ACBL, if you want to talk about them fine.
  9. 51% of the ACBL members are female and what is the percentage of females in the open event of a national championship? Obviously the ACBL has to promote it's own events to the members. Lets look at athletics (100m) Usain Bolt set the world record at 9,58, Florence Griffith-Joyner set the women record to 10,49. It seems generally accepted, that this is reason enough to have men and women compete seperatly. So simply by looking at the result history of national open events: - what was the best result an all female team reached and - what was the best result a team with a female pair reached. If half of the titles/top ten results are won by such teams, than there is no need for separate events. If this is not the case, than it makes sense to create separate womens events, perhaps just to increase the number of females competing in top events something that will result in more and better top player. Once the number has increased a lot, there might be evidence if there is a difference between the genders in the level of bridge.
  10. Turned into a philosopher? I guess that is why you dropped so many of your interests .
  11. This is of cause true, but you have to take into account: 1) the number of top player is a function of the total number of player. Since there are more bridge player in the age group of xisties than in group of twenties, you'd expect more top player in the bigger group. 2) The "average" pro has to find clients in local clubs, how many of your usually club members would want to hire a 20 year old pro? 3) A lot of the better bridge player put their focus on family and career from their mid twenties on. Since they don't see that they can make a living as a pro. 4) There is much more money in the poker business. I'm not familiar with the poker scene are you implying that there are no good old poker player?
  12. Have you ever played 3 sessions per day over several days?
  13. There are not enough % available to assign blame. Both 3♣ by North and pass on 3♣ by South are .... (searching for a political correct word) .... poor.
  14. To be good at <SPORT> you need: -physical fitness -regular training -the ability to keep focused during the competition Depending on the <SPORT> the peak performance is reached in the age range of 14-40. (In gymnastics and some freeclimbing competitions the peak is very young.) This seems to apply to bridge in a similar way.
  15. Assume South had overheard someone saying, that at this board all passed at the other table. Wouldn't we have to decide that the board is unplayable ?
  16. I'm sure that during the last year, I saw an offer for a smartphone tournament scoring program. (edit: found the link again http://www.bridgephone.eu/WebBridgePhone/faces/Pages/index.jsp ) As to matmat points any decent smartphone can act as a wireless hotspot and as a server for a small web-application. Scoring a tournament is nothing that needs real computer power, any smartphone can do that. So you don't need an internet connection and a remote server. Alternatively you can install a WLAN with your laptop for WLAN able smartphones or add bluetooth support to your laptop.
  17. Your argument completely depends on the assumption that a hesitation suggests 3-2-0-8 shape. If that is in fact South shape, than 5♣ are already made. Because there is still a high ♥ at the table and South needs only 1 trick in ♠ which is guaranteed with KQ. How can East exclude that South holds 2-3-0-8 and is evaluating the chances to drop his 3rd ♥ on ♠? Your argument is completely ignoring the the possibility that South can go down. Since West did not play the A♠ why can't South holding 1-2-2-8 evaluate the chances that the ♦ honors are split in a way that East would not want to touch ♦?
  18. South hesitation suggests that he has to make a crucial decision, and since the ♣ are solved and there is a ♥ stopper at the table, the problem could be in ♠ or ♦. I don't think that 3♠ is suggested over 1♠ and ♦ wide open.
  19. They already know what was searched from your computer during the last years. Now you tell them who you are and who your friends are. They can make money from that knowledge, why should they keep anyone out.
  20. That is what I would do. Often LHO won't be strong enough to act on the 2 level, so often this move shuts off EW communication, leaving W with a complete guess for his lead. As Justin points out the question is: Will North bid on? North should ask himself why South decided against dbl and North should reconsider what to do with his weak hand.
  21. You are basically right, but why don't you put AL on your forum ignore list? I 've just done that, so I don't have to see them any more. And he might have accidentally made a bridge related post here, but that would definitely be his only one.
  22. An immediate 4♥ over 3♥ seems obvious.
  23. 1♣ The suit is longer, has more honors and I would prefer partner to lead a ♣ instead of a ♦.
