I don't see much blame to assign here. North definitely has his 2NT bid. He can Assume that South bid 5♣ to make it or because he was sure that 4♥ will make and 5♣ is not more than 2 down. The South hand is hard to evaluate, the 2 tricks in the majors might be unneeded as North is short there. No honors in ♦ and just the ♣Q could mean that top tricks in these suits might be lost. But the South hand is strong enough to try 5♣. The biggets portion of blame goes to bad luck.

Your Link: http://kvisit.com/Sv6eqAw does not point to a valid Image, instead it redirects to: http://www.keepandshare.com/doc/6984639/double-jpg-437k which is not a valid image either. It shows a download page there. Even if you use the link that is for view: http://www.keepandshare.com/doc/6984639/double-jpg-437k?da=y My browser whats do download it instead of showing it. Which means it is not a valid image link either.

You need to upload the picture to a webserver to have an URL for it. There are free services you can use for this. I don't use any of these, so i can't give a recommendation, but Instagram seems to be quite big.

Playing the Express - Automated Fun everyone agrees to play 2/1. Unfortunately a lot of player are not familiar with that system. It would be nice, if at the end of the game, the explanations of the bids could be included in the result display. That way it would be possible to understand the bidding mistakes and to improve the knowledge about 2/1.

player skill rank
hotShot replied to mightyky's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
You should rethink that. If you take the ELO to the x-axis and the number of player with a specific ELO number as y-axis you will get a normal distribution. At the right end of your x-scale there are only few player with a high number. The bulk of player with have some mediocre number. Of cause you have to leave those people out, who don't have a number at all. -

It says I am advanced+! So why should I object. I will have to wait until it has the bad boards scored too. -
I like that idea.

I would guess that GIB came to the conclusion that to have 9-11 HCP the ♥A is very likely to be with E.

Delayed reverse, what's going on here?
hotShot replied to diana_eva's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
I think partner wanted to bid a 18-19 NT starting with 1m rebidding 2NT. So I think he was strong enough to wait for LHOs long suit, but does not have a good enough ♦ stopper, so he resorts to ♥. His shape should be something in the range of 2425 to 3433. I would bid 2NT now because I have a ♦ stopper. -
Against aggressive bidders you can't afford to wait to show your hand the next round. So I think North has to show values over 2♦. Without knowing more about your bidding system, I can only suggest to discuss what dbl and 2♥ would promise within your agreements. I prefer dbl to show values here and this would at least allow S to dbl 3♠.

If you don't object, I can write me a crawler that will download my hand records from the myhands area. Should be no problem to extract the lin-links from the summary page and download them.

More interesting is that GIB E does not lead the ♦8 to trick 11. This only makes sense if GIB E thinks that all 3 tricks belong to his side. Than it makes no difference which card is played. The only reasonable explanation would be that GIB W was sure that North has to have the A. North has shown 6 of his 8-11 HCP up to trick 11 that leaves room enough for any of Q and A but not both.
-
My guess is that 2♣ would have been 4th suit forcing not promissing real suit length, So 3♣ should be real clubs and i would expect it to be at least invitational.

If you really want to help me to decide which partner to pick, then you could provide me with 2 numbers and a filter: How many boards did we play together and what was our average score at this form of scoring. Filter out those without a tcr better than a number I set globally. Together with the friend/enemy colors this would be good enough for me. Since I play a lot of Indies there are a lot of players I have at least played 1 board with.

Thank you, I will try that.

Can I download all the hands i played using the Web-Interface? I'd like to run some automatik analysis with the hands i played, e.g. search for playing mistakes etc. Any textbased format e.g. in a zip-file would be fine.

After the ♦ lead it should be obvious to a declarer of any level that there are only 4♥ left of Wests 5-5 in the majors. (And strange enough East gave preference for ♥.) Perhaps it is more likely that West hast long ♦, but couldn't West also hold 5-5 in ♠ and ♣ or ♠ and ♦ or even both minors? If someone messes up his 2 suits bids anything is possible. After finding the ♠K with East doesn't it get more likely that West has the ♣ K , even with long ♦ we expect a little more than ♦KQJ. There is no risk in running the ♥ twice to see what the real distribution is. Playing the 3rd round of ♥ (when the entry is needed to finesse East for the ♣K) is careless if the ♥ were split 3-1 if I assume the player would be intermediate on BBO.
-
Just exchange the East and North hand, the layout is equally likely, and you will go down on some leads. [hv=pc=n&s=saj842hkq8da92ck4&w=skq975h432dq87caj&n=st6ht76dkt43c9763&e=s3haj95dj65cqt852&d=w&v=b&b=4&a=1spp1Nppp]399|300[/hv] While playing 1♠ West can only gain 80 and might go down on a ♥ lead. I think it is the wrong question, the right question is how often do you fail bidding. Fact is you don't have a fit and you don't have a long suit qualifying as source of tricks. East and North 11 HCP are unequally divided and ♥ are 3-3 that is lucky and antipercentage.

Preempted - How to find out which game?
hotShot replied to diana_eva's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion

A Gib hand with a simple basic defense error
hotShot replied to lycier's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
Lets count: you promised to have 19+ but you have only 12 so GIB thinks you have another 6-7 HCP. The only points that GIB does not know up to trick 6 are ♣AQ so GIB assumes that you hold them. Based on that, GIB knows you get all tricks it does not matter what GIB E does. If I was GIB E I would call the TD and claim misinformation. :) -
I had no time for bridge for several years now, but Minibridge with a simplified bidding is part of the official German bridge material for pupils. See this article titled "Bridge in 10 Minutes" http://www.bridge-verband.de/picture/doc/100 You explain the order of cards, who gets the trick, introduce trump and how to count HCP. The simplified bidding works this way: If the player in the first seat has 12+ HCP he says: "I have an opening" (else he passes and the right to open passes on). His partner writes his hcp and shape an a piece of paper and gives it to the opener. If his side has 20+ HCP Opener sets the final contract, if his side has less than 20 HCP the player in the 2nd seat get the right to declare the contract after receiving the HCP and shape information from his partner. There is a table HCP => bidding level and if you don't have an 8 card trump suit you play NT. Usually you can get people to play their first contract withing a hour (or 1.5 h), with the idea that everyone has played one hands at the end of the first lesson. The next lessons I used to let them play hands, replaying them with open cards when they finished playing, hinting them how to make better use of their cards.

The Minibridge we use for teaching is without a real bidding phase. You can teach the rules in less than an hour. "Gamers" will discover finesses and other simple playing techniques by themselves. When they are interested tell them - there are more techniques to produce tricks and - there is more fun with real bidding.
