  1. Multiple CCs Currently, you can only have 1 CC/partner. Why not allow multiple CCs/partner and allow choosing among them? This would be useful: - to aid organizing CCs (rather than having to pick from a bunch of unpartnered CCs) - to make it easier to use different CCs for - different tourneys (IMPs, MPs, Goulash, ...) - different opponents or opposing systems, eg in Team competitions - experimentation, without giving up current system Yes, you can have unpartnered CCs and choose from them, but this is more awkward and I worry about losing them when switching. tOM
  2. Line Breaks / System announce I use a long announcement in Goulashes: :Dpass=No5+…1suit:5+…Opening2!c=!c!h,2!d=!d!s,2!h=!h!d,2!s=!c!s…3=solid5+…Opng/ovrcl/resp:1NT=2HigherUnbid;2N=2lower;DBL=TO/neg1stCall<6…Cue=A/void…3N=cueAsk…d0p1 r0p1…WILL ALERT!…UDCA,O/E discard http://TomTrottier.com/Goulash.html :)GL I find the line breaks awkward in this. Why not allow line breaks anywhere except within strings of alphanumerics plus suit symbols. (either !C or ♣ style) plus colon and "=" Many tourneys ask players to announce their bidding system and carding when a round begins. Why not automated this a little by displaying the Title line of new opponents' CCs. And then divide the title line into Bidding and Carding parts. tOM
  3. I uploaded an animated GIF - but it's not animated :( Thanks for the user sort-by-status. Still waiting for: (from http://forums.bridgebase.com/index.php?showtopic=37874 ) 4 & 5 Done! This could be put in the description for tables, if no description supplied (or permitted, for tourneys) 8. Done! (good for bored dummies) 10 & 11 explained (14)Between sessions. Is currently kept within a session. tOM
  4. It might be available in Main lobby - I was checking an ordinary tourney. As for the handviewer link, when I click the "Show" button, I get the address line "about:blank" and no hand when I click the link. Using Firefox 3.6. If I copy the tinyurl link and put it in the address bar, then it does work. It was working in earlier Web versions.
  5. What web version are u using? No such option. Just: - save deal as - handviewer link - send to member - send abuse report BTW, the handviewer link is a little broken. When I click on the show button, i get "about:blank" in the address line and nothing on the screen. I have to copy the link and paste it into the address line. I'll just have to remember AriGreen. But why not a permanent name like RobotProblem? As for forum posts, I'd rather report the problem as it happens, not go thru the rigmarole of opening a new window/tab, logging in, creating a thread, creating a handviewer link, and copying the handviewer link in, then add my comments. That would tend to slow down play A LOT and be a big waste of time. That's an idea! :) Why not have the hand option: - create forum post and do all that automatically! Would be nice not just for robot problems, but for lots of situations! tOM
  6. Why not show the board status in the "Who's Online" section, eg "Playing Tournament(BBOHORNETS) 02/12 6min unclocked" or "Playing Tournament(BBOHORNETS) 02/12 0:23 to go" Or show it in the description for the table "02/12 0:23 to go" BBO knows these things. Why have to ask busy TDs?
  7. When GIB does something really stupid :o, it would be nice to have a BBO ID to send the problem hand to. Then the GIB programmer can have a series of hard test cases to fix GIB and recursion test it :D . tOM
  8. In the "Who's online", it would be nice to be able to sort by status. The default sort by name is tedious when you have hundreds of friends. Why not show the full status, eg, "Playing Tournament(TDBluff 02/12)" which would be more useful when deciding tourney invites. Why not another tab, "Available friends" (ie, not playing) to assist invite choosing. Also, how can I find other players playing precision? Or from St. Lucia? Or speaking Esperanto? Why not a search function for profiles?
  9. You can enter a description. For example "Se habla espanol" or "We play strong pass". To help prospective players decide whether to join this table. It is indeed rarely used. Maybe it would be an idea once in a while to put the hint to use the description field more often on the daily news. If I'm in a tourney, how do I enter a description? Why not put the current board number there, eg, 2/12? tOM
  10. Can you please explain what you mean by this? ... Most of the "why's" you ask have a answer. Some of them are good answers (like user interface consistency), but some of the answers have to do with either limitations imposed by Flash or the backend (server) architecture of BBO. 14 -- I always have to paste in my "Deal Source" every time I log on. Why not store it in a flash cookie and restore it in the Deal Source box when I set up a bidding table. It would be nice to now which suggestions are "impossible" (=difficult). As for UI consistency, I think all my suggestions are consistent with the current UI. Which aren't? And why? It seems to me half my suggestions enhance consistency! For example, having the "substitutes" button work for one displayed tourney and not for the displayed list of (eg free) tourneys is inconsistent. It is inconsistent for some columns to have extra space and others too small. It is inconsistent to show a column resizing cursor which has no effect.
  11. Since AriGreen is handling GIB, why not "Export Deal" to him when it happens with a note explaining the idiocy. tOM :)
  12. Perhaps "Enemy" should be divided up into several checkboxes: Won't play against Won't play with Won't talk with tOM :D
  13. Use "Deal Source" and save your constraints in a text editor and paste in, eg: bigN = shape(north, any 6xxx + any 7xxx + any 8xxx + any 9xxx + any 00xx + any 01xx + any 11xx + any 02xx + any 12xx + any 03xx ) bigS = shape(south, any 6xxx + any 7xxx + any 8xxx + any 9xxx + any 00xx + any 01xx + any 11xx + any 02xx + any 12xx + any 03xx ) bigE = shape(east, any 6xxx + any 7xxx + any 8xxx + any 9xxx + any 00xx + any 01xx + any 11xx + any 02xx + any 12xx + any 03xx ) bigW = shape(west, any 6xxx + any 7xxx + any 8xxx + any 9xxx + any 00xx + any 01xx + any 11xx + any 02xx + any 12xx + any 03xx ) solidN = (hascard(north, AS) and hascard(north, KS) and hascard(north, QS) and hascard(north, JS) and hascard(north, TS) ) or (hascard(north, AH) and hascard(north, KH) and hascard(north, QH) and hascard(north, JH) and hascard(north, TH) ) (hascard(north, AD) and hascard(north, KD) and hascard(north, QD) and hascard(north, JD) and hascard(north, TD) ) or (hascard(north, AC) and hascard(north, KC) and hascard(north, QC) and hascard(north, JC) and hascard(north, TC) ) solidS = (hascard(south, AS) and hascard(south, KS) and hascard(south, QS) and hascard(south, JS) and hascard(south, TS) ) or (hascard(south, AH) and hascard(south, KH) and hascard(south, QH) and hascard(south, JH) and hascard(south, TH) ) (hascard(south, AD) and hascard(south, KD) and hascard(south, QD) and hascard(south, JD) and hascard(south, TD) ) or (hascard(south, AC) and hascard(south, KC) and hascard(south, QC) and hascard(south, JC) and hascard(south, TC) ) longN = shape(north, any 6xxx + any 7xxx + any 8xxx + any 9xxx + any 012x + any 011x + any 003x + any 002x) longS = shape(south, any 6xxx + any 7xxx + any 8xxx + any 9xxx + any 012x + any 011x + any 003x + any 002x) twoN = shape(north, any 55xx + any 56xx + any 57xx + any 58xx + any 66xx + any 67xx) twoS = shape(south, any 55xx + any 56xx + any 57xx + any 58xx + any 66xx + any 67xx) highNS = hcp(south)+hcp(north)>20 majorsNS = shape(north, 5xxx + x5xx) or shape(south, 5xxx + x5xx) spadeEW = spades(west)+spades(east)>9 diamondEW = diamonds(west)+diamonds(east)>9 heartEW = hearts(west)+hearts(east)>9 clubEW = clubs(west)+clubs(east)>9 competition = clubEW or heartEW or diamondEW or spadeEW bigE and bigW and bigN and bigS
  14. If the new player would be declarer, she should be put in as dummy and dummy should become declarer. This would get rid of 1/3 of the aggravation either way. tOM
  15. Who do we report problems to online? Would be nice to have a BBO userid to send weird hands to.
  16. You can enter a description. For example "Se habla espanol" or "We play strong pass". To help prospective players decide whether to join this table. It is indeed rarely used. Maybe it would be an idea once in a while to put the hint to use the description field more often on the daily news. Yes, in the Clubs, but not in the Tourneys.
  17. Can you please explain what you mean by this? All boards will eventually be played 16 times, but sometimes this takes a while. In a non-tournament context, the scores displayed in "My results" and the lists of results at other tables do not update themselves automatically. You have to click on a given one of your results in order to see an updated score for that board and in order to fetch any new results from other tables. Most of the "why's" you ask have a answer. Some of them are good answers (like user interface consistency), but some of the answers have to do with either limitations imposed by Flash or the backend (server) architecture of BBO. Thanks for your suggestions. Fred Gitelman Bridge Base Inc. www.bridgebase.com Currently, when setting up a Bidding Table, when you login, the previous "Deal Source" text you used has disappeared. Would be nice to keep it between logins. 10. When in Main club, sometimes no one else plays the hand you played - so for that 1 board, there is no comparision, so both sides get an average instead of having comparisions. I have checked back 30+ min later and still no "other tables".
  18. Some suggestions/observations: 1. In the bidding box, why not layout, left to right, NT...♣. This puts the suits always in the same space, reducing misclicks. Should simplify programming too. 2. Why not show, for each completed hand, the double dummy maxes that GIB can calculate. Could be in a box in lower right corner, currently unused space. Would settle some arguments without having to use the HandViewer. 3. For profiles, why not a right-click menu item to close. Would be very useful to folks like myself who park them on the edge with just a smidgen showing. Would also be useful if a double click moved the profile so all of it was on the screen. 4. For the Who's Online list, why not allow sorting by name or status? Would be useful to ID friends who are not currently playing. 5. Join in table list not set correctly in ACBL tournament. 6. In tournament lists, why not a column for board count, eg 12 for pending, 02/12 for running. This could also be added to the table lists for running tournaments. Useful for sorting, or for joining choices. 7. Why not have the substitutes button apply to the list of tournaments shown, eg, for ACBL, BBO, free, all tourneys, rather than always for all tourneys. 8. In Tourneys lists, I can select and drag the column divider - but it has no effect. 9. In the My Results list, why not allow seeing "Other Tables" for boards completed by everyone. 10. Sometimes in the Main club, "Other Tables" for completed hands shows no other tables, and the score is "--" forever, no matter how good or bad you did. 11. Columns in tourney lists not resized properly when subwindow is expanded and then contracted. Tourney name stays wide, other columns very skinny. 12. Why not dump the "join" column and use the tourney name as the selection area? Dump the "more" column and use a floating box when the player hovers over the tourney. 13. Why is there a description column for tourneys or tables? It's always empty. 14. For bidding tables, why not keep previous Deal Source for each player. Hoping to see all these fixed in v35! Thanks for a great site. tOM
  19. I find the handviewer great for reviewing a hand to see if I could have made the contract - or defeated it - using GIB. But I have some suggestions. "Next" goes by trick. I would like to be able to go by card and have GIB evaluate what each hand should play. EG, use buttons "Lead 2 3 Trick" to replace Next. Alternative contracts - I would like to explore alternative contracts and declarers. It would be nice to be able to evaluate these with GIB. Perhaps buttons for N S E W and ♣ ♦ ♥ ♠ NT which one could turn on & off, and a display of the contract which GIB is using, eg, 7♥, in the bottom left of the desk. I would make the contract 1 higher than the existing contract, or 7 if the contract is 7. tOM
  20. "Pin" means to keep the profile displayed until closed, from "pinning" it on a physical bulletin board with a straight pin or thumbtack. tOM
  21. I agree! When all players are robots, then the human declarer should play the hand if their partner is the declarer. It should not even be a choice. tOM
  22. Full Disclosure convention cards do that.
  23. I have some suggestions... 1. I would like to step thru the analysis card by card rather than trick by trick - but it isn't possible. 2. I'd like to alter some of the data and re-analyse, eg, - contract - declarer - cardplay after claim/concession but it isn't possible. 3. Name strategies used, eg, squeeze, end play, etc, if GIB knows. Could these features be added? tOM
  24. It would be nice if -- Profiles were searchable - eg, where are the Precision players? Profiles had a field for language(s) written/spoken ------- even nicer if the s/w could compare CCs and suggest partners for you - like Match.com! tOM
  25. It would also be good to check visibility of the colours with colour-blind people, or use cues like outlining or shade to keep it clear for as many as possible. tOM
