The Be Right Back button is under the who is online tab. Since players are usually looking at their my results tab, it is not usually visible. It should be moved to the chat line. For space, you could easily delete the options button. It is immediately available at the top of the screen. Then people might use it. You should also automatically turn it off if someone starts typing or using their mouse.

GIB is nice for exploring the results of plays, but it would be nice to see what the possible making contracts are for hands that have already been played. In tourneys and clubs in the printed record, this is done for every hand, showing the maximum for each declarer and strain.
-
Often in unclocked tournaments some tables are very slow. To help the tournament directors monitor and sometimes adjust the slow tables, it would be very useful to know which are the slowest tables. It is also very useful for players when they are waiting a partner to finish an existing tournament in order to join a coming one. Will they finish in time?

Topics missing from Suggestions

Not so obvious. Filtering implies content rather than metadata. Is there a more obvious forum option? -
Where are the missing suggestions?

For TDing tourneys, it would be helpful to have columns for - the current board number "Board" - minutes left in round "Left" - minutes since player due to bid or play has shown life "Idle" This would aid the TD in managing slow tourneys by encouraging swiftness - or adjusting. Sorting can put problem tables at the top. You could also add a "Contract" column so Kibitzers can find tables which are playing the same contract they played earlier.
-
Sometimes hesitations give info to P or Opps. In big tourneys, there are diagonal table screens to hide partners, and p/opp bids are presented together. This can easily be done in BBO, hiding all 3 previous bids (& who's turn it is) until it is your turn to bid. I see only one complication - telling TD who is hesitating in tourneys. This could be handled by having an extra button, or by having an auto replace function when a player is silent (no bid, no chat) for > 30 seconds.

Improve Tables list for TDs by new columns
0 carbon replied to 0 carbon's topic in Suggestions for the Software
You can see the ranking in Swiss tourneys. But ranking doesn't matter much to TDs. For players, you see MP% or IMPs in Barometer tourneys. Ranking would be nice too - but always changing. tOM -
One problem TDs have is pairs running out the clock & getting an AVE for what would be a bad board for them. Then TDs are called to adjust - a major pain. Why not clock each pair & if the clock runs out, award AVE- to the slower pair and AVE+ to the faster one. This would encourage fast play & mean many less AVEs, better for TDs and players. Players could still ask for a better adjust if AVE+ does not seem enough. tOM

The Tables list would be more useful if columns were added for: Current Board e.g. 8 Board Clock e.g. -3 Finished e.g. Y This would allow easy identification & adjusting of slow tables in Unclocked tourneys Round Delay(min:sec)[for NS & EW in pairs, for each player in Indies] eg 3:21 This would allow easy ID & adjustment of slow pairs in Clocked tourneys. Monitors are getting wider & wider - some are 4096 pixels. Have 2 together - that's 8192. Time to add more columns for better utility. tOM

Monitors are getting wider - some even 4096 pixels. To aid in choosing a tourney, I suggest adding: SUBSTITUTES button to ACBL, BBO, Free, & All tourney-type bars, & delete from bottom of pane. This would save space & allow subbing for a set of tourney at once rather than the current all or one or nothing. It can also be hilited when you are registered as a substitute. COLUMN for each tourney: Clocked/Unclocked; Duration[minutes]; Boards; Rounds; Scoring; %TCR required eg: Cl Dur Bds Rnd Scr %TCR U 72 12 6 MP 80 tOM

This would be useful to make many special tourneys, eg: GOULASH: bigE = shape(east, any 6xxx + any 7xxx + any 8xxx + any 9xxx + any 00xx + any 01xx + any 11xx + any 02xx + any 12xx + any 03xx) bigN = shape(north, any 6xxx + any 7xxx + any 8xxx + any 9xxx + any 00xx + any 01xx + any 11xx + any 02xx + any 12xx + any 03xx) bigW = shape(west, any 6xxx + any 7xxx + any 8xxx + any 9xxx + any 00xx + any 01xx + any 11xx + any 02xx + any 12xx + any 03xx) bigS = shape(south, any 6xxx + any 7xxx + any 8xxx + any 9xxx + any 00xx + any 01xx + any 11xx + any 02xx + any 12xx + any 03xx) # bigE and bigW and bigN and bigS COMPETITIVE: spadeEW = spades(west)+spades(east)>8 diamondEW = diamonds(west)+diamonds(east)>8 heartEW = hearts(west)+hearts(east)>8 clubEW = clubs(west)+clubs(east)>8 spadeNS = spades(north)+spades(south)>8 diamondNS = diamonds(north)+diamonds(south)>8 heartNS = hearts(north)+hearts(south)>8 clubNS = clubs(north)+clubs(south)>8 (clubNS or heartNS or diamondNS or spadeNS) AND (clubEW or heartEW or diamondEW or spadeEW)

You can get robots for opps in bidding tables.
-
Currently you can use DEAL source to generate boards for bidding, eg, for goulash, use: bigN = shape(north, any 6xxx + any 7xxx + any 8xxx + any 9xxx+ any 00xx + any 01xx + any 11xx + any 02xx + any 12xx + any 03xx ) bigS = shape(south, any 6xxx + any 7xxx + any 8xxx + any 9xxx + any 00xx + any 01xx + any 11xx + any 02xx + any 12xx + any 03xx) bigE = shape(east, any 6xxx + any 7xxx + any 8xxx + any 9xxx + any 00xx + any 01xx + any 11xx + any 02xx + any 12xx + any 03xx) bigW = shape(west, any 6xxx + any 7xxx + any 8xxx + any 9xxx + any 00xx + any 01xx + any 11xx + any 02xx + any 12xx + any 03xx) # bigE and bigW and bigN and bigS It would be great if TDs could specify a DEAL source for tourneys like Goulash - or more fanciful tourneys! tOM

All the criteria above are possible indications of alikeness. But isn't partnership success the main goal? So why not look in your records to see what successful(good scores, repeated playing together) partnerships have in common Get a stats package like GNU PSPP and run a Logistic Regression to find out what successful partners have in common. Start with everything, and winnow out all the bad performers (correlation < .6) and weight the remainder according to the amount of covariance. tOM

Why stars? They already have too many meanings in BBO. Use smilies! Or teddy bears! I think language compatibility should only be counted for countries where English is uncommon. We can see MPs in the player bubble - don't use MP level as a criterion. If either of you mark the other as an enemy, don't show ANY compatibility! It's likely that the enemier(!) won't invite and the enemieed will always be rejected. But enemy status just expresses incompatibility. It does not mean either is a jerk to all. Categorized friends should be bumped up - you obviously have more interest in friends you have classified. I'd rather see the rough average scores for the last 2 months or so as a partnership, eg "-3i 53%" You could even have it clickable to explore previous tourneys/hands. For convention compatibility, check for any "words" in common in the profile. Ideally you would use a synonym list, eg, equating prec and precision. This also encourages people to put what they like in their profiles. One extra thing you could also do is put a yellow (vs current black) 1-pixel box around players with whom you share a convention card. This would encourage more use of convention cards.

It is impossible to search this forum for the phrase "your app is out of date". I've heard of banning 4-letter words. Why 3-letter ones? In quoted phrases? tOM
-
In Opera 12.15 in Windows 7, in the browser, I keep getting the message "Your app is out of date" or "Connection closed: Your BBO app is out of date or unauthorized. Please use the latest official app. Search for Bridge Base in the app store." What app store? Android apps or W8 apps don't really run well on W7. I deleted all private "data". Help!

Worth a double, hoping P has some !♠ & trix. If not, convert 5♣ to 5♦, which P may change to 5♥. This should show long/good red suits - which all behind the ♠ bidder's P.
