Automatic Tournament Cancellation By BBO
0 carbon replied to azi's topic in BBO Tournament Directors Forum
I've seen 46K players around 2pmEDT - but 11k around 10pmEDT. Why not go back to original 800 limit when players <20k? -
Tournament Size Restrictions
0 carbon replied to j_with_a_B's topic in BBO Tournament Directors Forum
I agree completely. GlobalClub, the successor to BBO Fans, has been hosting 4-8 tourneys daily for years, and now regular players cannot find a seat. How about just restricting new TDs (i.e., younger than 3 months) to small tournaments and not limiting the experienced TDs. All the restrictions do is to have many small tourneys vs a few large. Does this really use fewer resources? BBO seems to have no problem hosting ACBL tourneys of 500+ players! -- tom -
Practically speaking, No language field to choose; country is self-described;easiest way to manage is to have a Club "ID" (like GlobalClub) to create ("Host") tourneys and just admit club ID "Followeds"s, as other lists are a pain to administerIncludes are first filter, Excludes are 2nd filter -- tom

I like: History, double-dummy on previous tourneys, all tables, for a month(I think)speedoption for voicing chat Things I miss Saving all deals in a tournamentPlayer categories - essential for TDing AND playing.Unable to sort table lists by player names (useful for TDing near tourney end)No VUgraph voiceFD convention cards.Convention card list confusing - why not list each CC & then all the players you use it with & list CC used with each player profile. Still broken: History shows NS & EW vs We & They for tournaments where players switch directions.Useless Description for Tables. Why was this ever there? I would like (suggestions): In table list: round #; board #; minutes used in round; minutes since last action - sortable - to help TDs manage tourneysIn round box: Pairs/Indy/Team indication; Survivor/Swiss/Clocked/Unclocked indication - mainly for subs.In Deal Archive, show count of deals with the Archive name -- tom

1. How about a guide to TDing using V3? Especially on a tablet or phone! 2. For TDing, to table list for a tourney, add minutes left in round for table (to ID slow players)round & board # being played (to ID slow players)categories (manage rude/banned players) to sub list expand to 75% of screen height (less scrolling)show Ignored/Friends (Ignored often used for banning)categories (manage rude/banned players)

To control for number of players in a tourney, you could winnow out the bigger & smaller tourneys so you can compare better between ACBL & BBO tourneys. Are the BBO tourneys barometer & ACBL not? This could account for wilder bidding/play in later rounds. Did you do any comparison between, say, the first 2 boards of a tourney and the last 2 while using barometer scoring? This might indicate if high-variance bidding occurs. To eliminate the "user pool" bias, you could divide the results into 3 categories & analyse separately to see if there are differences: Players playing only BBO tourneysPlayers playing in both ACBL & BBOPlayers playing only ACBL -- tom

Android app logouts when minimized
0 carbon replied to bbstar's topic in Suggestions for the Software
Android or IOS? I think app can be configured to stay on while not focussed in both. -
I think with your bidding database of millions of hands you might try some machine learning to get to a system with good alerts & results.

Survivor:minimise sections; seed players;show rank
0 carbon replied to 0 carbon's topic in Suggestions for the Software
Is consistent - objective is to have everyone playing everyone with a mix of levels.I would prefer just one BIG section for all Swiss or Survivor tourneys from start to finish. -
Cheaters play/bid absurdly well and not based on their own cards. Monthly history is usually above 60%.. Cheaters do better defending than declaring. Check successful defence for psychic plays. Check 80-100% slam successes for odd bidding.
-
Cheats using 2 IDs would have to pay 2x as much. But a pair of cheats using Skype/phone/... would be less affected.
-
Also, why not allow subbing just for a particular CLASS of tournaments, eg, ACBL, BBO, Free, or for a particular Host?
-
Even more important, how about a Language(s) field that can be searched? It could also be used to order the substitutes list by matching the remaining partner's language(s), and the Partnership list compatibility.

In Options, you can choose to show (or not show) a player profile just on mouseover. Try turning it off if it bothers you. I find it convenient.

1. Sections are max 50 tables. But when a Survivor tourney reduces from 51 to 50 tables, for example, two sections still remain. Why not use the minimum number of sections? Keeping the same number of sections prevents the best players from playing each other. The same is true even in larger tourneys when 8 sections reduce to 7, and so on. Worse, some sections may lose more players than others, leading to a reduced player pool to play against. In a worst case, one section may only have 1 table while another has 50. Or you might have an empty section! 2. Where there are multiple sections, players should be seeded after each round into sections, e.g. best pair to 1NS in section 1, 2nd best to 1NS in section 2, etc. until all remaining players have a place. For best fairness, you could assign the first set of pairs to sections 1 up to n, then reverse the order for second set, ie to sections n down to 1, and continue. This is fairer to players as all sections have the complete spread of abilities (or at least achievement). 3. It would be nice if a ranking were directly displayed, e.g. 299/750, for each pair each round.

BBOfriend has not been updated since 2004 - useless.

Tourney List suggestions: Tourney lists take up far more room than they need to. Best to identify what info is needed for each type, eg: Pending tourneys: host, name, type, cost, Start, Duration, Movement, MPs, Restrictions Running tourneys: host, name, type, Can kibitz? #boards remaining(max), Minutes remaining Completed tourneys: host, name, type, Completion time and then put it in table form 1 line/tourney so we can see the max our screen & layout allows. Perhaps continue to 2nd line only if info does not fit on one line. For pending restrictions, use colours to ID tourneys we are not allowed to enter for any reason, eg, green for go, red for stop. For running restrictions, use colours to ID tourneys we can kibitz, eg, green for go, gray for cannot.

Categories are missing. I use them for IDing - People who play different systems, especially systems I prefer, so I can invite them to partner - Nice people who I prefer to sub in when I am TD - Rude/slow players to avoid when subbing - Fellow GlobalClub TDs - Other TDs - People I suspect as cheats etc. - in fact, i would like more categories than 10! Has the 2K limit on friends been changed?
-
Apps are much more limited than browsers. Opening a URL can close the app. You cannot scroll chat. You can't see previous board scores or use GIB to analyze. This can matter to partners - or opps. How about a symbol to distinguish between app/mobile & pc/mac/browser?
-
You can also see your past hands at http://www.bridgebase.com/myhands/ and download them all & analyze them using http://bridgecaptain...downloadDD.html Robots can play pretty well, but the bidding tends to get lost.... tom

In hand records like in http://www.bridgebase.com/myhands/hands.php?username=00pkmar&start_time=1509858000&end_time=1512450000&from_login=0the records are centered, When you click on the Movie link, the Movie obscures the record. How about left justifying the hand records so the movie can be moved to the right?
