  1. 1S 2C (bal or clubs GF) 3H 4N is a good start. 4N here is definitely natural, and almost always shows 2443. With 3 spades you bid 3S, if you want to set clubs you bid 4C. Obv you might have 4 clubs and be loaded in the reds and just want to make a quantitative move though. 4H over 3H to me would show this shape and either too much to bid 4N, or just hearts that are too weak to do so. Kx Jxxx AKxx Kxx would bid 4H. 4D over 3H would be keycard to me. Over 4N east would just bid 5C. He has already opened, and now will be showing a 5th club, he's not going to do more imo. Over 5C west would consider bidding 6. He has AK A for the 3 red cards (partner is 5-5). So he just needs to negotiate 1 black loser. Still I don't think he ever would bid 6, if partner is 5-5 rather than 6-5 the hand is MUCH worse because setting up spades will be more difficult. Not to mention his trumps are really bad, and he has already shown his strength and shape, so even though the honors are looking good, it's not enough to bid 6. Possibly responder should bid 4H, but the T9 of hearts argues against this, not to mention 4H is not a slam try so he will have to guess to underbid or overbid later. So: 1S 2C 3H 4N 5C p is my auction.
  2. I would bid 4H possibly pretty heavy in this case, knowing that we could miss slam because of it. Maybe this is wrong and I'm biased because I play precision all the time or with clients, but I think for every time I miss slam with AKJ seventh, I gain like 10x as often by giving LHO a tough problem.
  3. If I'm reading this correctly, partner opened 3C w/r. I would say a 6 card suit is very very possible then, maybe even likely? Pass, partner's preempt has probably done it's job. Def do not bid 4C at this vulnerability!
  4. If you just bid 2N then at rubber bridge they might X 3N a lot on the auction if stuff doesn't break/lie well. But your hearts are pretty good so that lessens the likelihood of it since LHOs double would ask for a heart lead. Still, something to be said for just bidding 3N.
  5. Thanks! Move reisig to 4th for me and add Sheri in to 5th then.
  6. No you can't! 5 hearts and 10 points is a lot different than 6 hearts and 6 points! What do you want to do, pass? Sorry if I'm being dumb but I refuse and I hate it. Yep I'm perfectly happy passing, guess that's where we differ. I do strongly strongly strongly believe you cannot bid 2H with this though. Not saying I'm right necessarily, that's just my belief.
  7. Partner opened 2H? I would just bid 4H. I have enough HCP to hope that LHO can't bid and we buy it here, so I wouldn't try anything drastic like 5H.
  8. Cardsharp, no offense but I think you (and many people in general) are failing to look at the bigger picture with a hand like this. What is the bigger picture? 1) Let's not miss game. 2) Let's try to describe our hand, and hope it works out. Sure there are problems after 3D, like missing clubs. But what is the alternative? If you bid 2D, you are not observing points 1 and 2. Partner might pass 2D, and when you're this powerful with a bidding partner, you have almost surely missed game. Also, 2D does not begin to describe a hand this powerful, and since it is NF has an upper limit of 18 typically (and not all 18s). I think if you step back and think about it logically, you will realize that this statement "let's bid 2D, and risk missing game quite often, and underbid our hand by a king, in order to be able to find 6C on a small subset of hands if that's right" is absurd. Sometimes bridge really is this simple, you open 1H and bid 3D, showing hearts and diamonds and a good 18 to 21. That is what you have, ez game. Even your example hand is pretty unconvincing. You give a hand where 6C has pretty good play but is not cold, so you bid 2D....but if you bid 2D you will play there instead of the 3N you would have bid after 3D. You cannot find every perfect slam, and cannot cater to every possibility.
  9. In fact since you're basically invincible w/r opp a passed hand in general, bidding styles should probably reflect this and exploit it. Wouldn't shock me if you are playing an optimal style but I have too many biases/prejudices to appreciate it.
  10. Gnasher, if you wouldn't mind posting here or PMing me or something what your general parameters are for WJO white (yes I know this is an almost impossible question) I would really love to try this style online and see how it works. Not sarcastic, I've never played this type of style but could see the advantages (you steal their bidding room at basically no cost if partner isn't going to go nuts), and would love to try it.
  11. 1) Uday 2) Fred 3) Ritong 4) Wald 5) Reisig
  12. +1 at imps. -1 at MP. Actually I should say... +1 at imps, +1 at MP vul, -1 at MP white I guess.
  13. Red/white I'd say 7D is obv, we would draw 7S from them a lot. w/w I don't think they're bidding 7S very often. I would shoot 7D and pray anyways.
  14. No you can't! 5 hearts and 10 points is a lot different than 6 hearts and 6 points!
  15. Yes I got a good board in a national pair game once for -580, my partner was very distraught and assumed it would be a zero... she almost pitched a trick to let them make 5 lol. FWIW, they passed out stayman-doubled without redoubling.
  16. 3H and 4H are obvious, the last one the question is whether to bid 3D or 4S I think. Since 4H and 3N are possible contracts, I'll go with 3D.
  17. Also note: I did not say jjbrr is not free to do as he pleases. However I know jjbrr, and I doubt he wants to go back on an agreement he's made, I'm pretty sure he's just trying to point out the the system OP has outlined is not exactly like the meckwell lite system, however by doing so he is going back on his agreement not to share parts of the notes, which I'm sure is unintentional. IMO if one has made such an agreement and they want to stick to it, by far the best method is to avoid posting on threads like this at all.
  18. Why are you posting about the system now after posting this? If you agreed not to in order to get the notes, it seems like you are now going back on that agreement.
  19. Why'd you overcall with 21? Also, why did north show 16 by bidding 1C then 3C in comp? Also why did south show 12, he bid 3 non forcing spades...
