  1. I don't like to scan same suit twice. It takes a lot of bidding space. 1st step as 0/2 from AKQ (xxx; AK; AQ; KQ) Skip as 1/3 from AKQ (A; K; Q; AKQ) You need a very good logics, but it is possible to deduce exact holding most of the time.
  2. I thought if declarer has ♠Qxx ♥AQxxx ♦KJT9 ♣A, he will be able to draw trumps, and avoid ♦ loser via discarding them onto ♠ and ♣K. If i play ♠K i could still switch to ♦. But yeah, deal is quite impossible as partner would surely lead from ♣QTxx. Still i have a feeling ♠K should be better. If i play ♠K-small, declarer might sometimes misguess. Also it might help partner, if he wins your small ♠ return with A/Q and doesn't really know what to do next.
  3. I would never play with anyone who leads small from KQTxx, QJTxx, KJTxx vs. a trump contract. You prefer to lead from ♠Axx? or ♠Qxx? or ♥Qxx? or ♣Qxxx? And sometimes passive lead is best and the most logical even if the bidding suggest something else. Hate when people are so dogmatical.
  4. So we know that partner has lead from ♦Hxx If H=Q or K, i don't see any difference(can't imagine maybe) in what we return. If partner has lead from Jxx then ♠K seems obvious. e.g. declarer with ♠Axx ♥Axxxx ♦KQT9 ♣A Hmmmm, but i think if ♠K wins it is indeed better to play ♦ I would never play small ♠ though, if declarer has Qxx i might have lost control of the deal.
  5. IMO version 3 is the most logical and best 2♣ response should be some non-major invite hands+some minor GF 2♦ sound.... 1♦-1♥- ..1♠ 4♥ ..1N nat bal ..2♣ 5♣4♠0-2♥ ..2♦ like 2♣ ..2♥ 5+4♠3♥
  6. http://bridgewithdan.com/systems/ I am pretty sure that his surname is spelled with ''o''. And I don't like any F-N based system. Can't give more.
  7. Basically i think that expected benefit from 1♦/1♥/1♠/2♣/2♣/2M won't compensate drawback of 1♣/1N. It might sound too skeptical, but.. 1♣ -- prefer 16+ strong club based systems 1♦ -- I would like that 2nd lowest opening bid would take care of more major tended hands.(1♦ = 5m+4M is an option) 6♦+ and 5m+4om m+ i consider as ''boring trash'' and highly prefer to put these somewhere further in opening bid list. 1M -- i open 1M to show that i have 5 card major, additional information about unknown 4 card is pretty irrelevant in general. This bid will not only help partner, but also for opponents. This is why i and some other bridge players don't like muidberg much. I would like to be able choose between 1N and 1M when holding 5M332. Generally it is a lack of flexibility.

    Wtp?

2NT I don't think that LHO should lead from top, and difference between QJ-K-Kx is not THAT big.
  9. Agree If we play this line, how do we make Zia shout at us? We could be very careless and allow ♠K to get ruffed, but I doubt if that's the reason the hand was posted here. What line? I don't see any line in that quote. I agreed that we should play for a layout he is giving.
  10. Hi, both are obvious penalties for me. In the first one pass basically shows ''cards'', in 2nd you just want to keep option open to be able to double for penalty with 4. GL :)
  11. 2♣ 5♣+unbal no 4M 11/15 2♦ 5♦+unbal no 4M 11/15 Actually i had the same problem some years ago, but now i am absolutely sure that this is the best usage for these two bids.
  12. Without bidding you are obviously right, but with bidding i can't really answer. How did you evaluate that with bidding? I try not to examine constructed hands like this, but to look onto problem generally. One exact hand in bidding problems don't prove much. Also i think that with your 1st hand it is not so easy to construct obvious full deals, they should be in pretty narrow area. All in all opps have 6 spades with king, ♣QJ,♦Q...and it is vul imps. What do you think? I agree that first hand is Pass, but want to mention that your 2nd hand is very nice and is not far from 4♠ bid.
  13. Sorry maybe it is my poor English that caused this misunderstanding. It sounded like 2♠ would normally encourage, (LHO hand improving e.g. ♠ shortness, no ♠ honors) while other bids including pass wouldn't encourage to bid on. (or would encourage less than 2♠ ). But now it seems you bid 2♠, because it is 2♠, and it by default encourages to compete. I got it right now? Both occasions seem weird, so maybe i still haven't got your position. Could you please explain as i don't get it. And maybe you could also give some reasons why 2♠ would encourage, because i saw none. Again it is my poor English, because i get it as you mean that 2nd hand is more probable than 1st one. That seems impossible to me after auction 1N-[2♥]-2♠-[3♥] I find it really difficult to respond if opposite side doesn't give any reasons for it's statements, because i just don't feel convinced that i get other person right.
  14. Not a gut feeling, but some logical assumptions. This hand has a catastrofal lack of spot cards (very important for NT), ruffing values, aces, support. For NT to be better you need 8NT tricks (unless you think that 1N makes and 2♦ goes down) and hope that diamonds doun't play 2 tricks better. I belive that extra ♦ tricks(and 1N-1, 2♦=) are more probable than 2N= and 2♦+1 Pass feels like a dogmatical view, however i might be convinced otherwise with sim proving that.
  15. What? Well, how can you know that? You have Jxxx in ♠... If LHO can bid 3♥, parter is very likely to support. He will know that you are short in ♥+he will have some ♠ honors say AQx. But i really can't stomach 4-3 fit, not this time. Parter will just overbid his hand. Lack of one trump is very crucial this time and you have jack-high suit. Small target, but very high risk. If you bid 2N leb, LHO can obviously bid direct 3♥, but he will do it only with nice hand, when they are likely to make. He may as well pass and bid 3♥ next turn. Very small target, still high risk. I will pass in this round
  16. I think crtitical LHO hand is ♠xxx(x) ♥xx ♣something ♦A(x)+ You can't directly establish ♥ as you don't have enough entries. Suppose it goes: ♠9, ♥ finesse, ♥A, ♠Q , ♥J covered and ruffed high. You can't play ♣ as ♠ return kills you. (unless AKQ with RHO) You can't play ♦, as after ♦A, and ♦ return you, need to ruff one more ♥. Then ♣, ♠ kills you. If LHO has 2/3 A/K/Q, then you can't do anything. Anytime you play ♣, he returns ♠. Anytime you play ♦ he returns ♦. But, if LHO has only one honor, you can get this home via trying to establish ♣ ruff. Play ♣ at trick 4. LHO will win and return ♠(best). Win in hand and play one more ♣. RHO will win, and if they now force your last ♠(not allowing to ruff ♣) with ♦ switch to A, ♠. You can establish your ♥. You need ♥ no worse than xx-Kxxx, and no more than one ♣ honor with LHO
  17. Possible LHO club holdings are ♣KQx; ♣KQJ; ♣KQJxx; ♣KQJTx ♣KQx ->most probably LHO doesn't have 4♥ Take 3rd ♣; ♦Q; ♦A If LHO has 4♦ he is either 3♠3♥4♦3♣ or 4♠2♥4♦3♣ 12-14could, that leaves RHO with no more that 2 points. Finesse ♦J; Then cash your high ♦ and dicard ♣ (unless RHO doesnt discard 2 ♣) If RHO discards at least one spade, ♠Qx isnt dangerous anymore, ♠A, ♠... If he discards 2 ♥, play ♥A, ♥ to ♥T establishing ♥. Actually you will win even if LHO has 4♥. Unless ♠Kx, ♥Qxx, ♣KQx, ♦Jxxx that most probably isn't an opening or ♠Kx, ♥QJxx, ♣KQx, ♦ Jxxx with brilliant lead. If LHO discards ♣&♥ play ♥A, ♥ to ♥T. Either RHO had 4♥ and you establish ♥ or he had 5♥ and you will get spade. If LHO has 5♦, use same idea, ♦T, ♦A and look onto discards. ♣KQJxx take 3rd ♣, ♣ position will be clear. ♦Q;♦K;♦finesse;♦A. If RHO discards one ♠ and 2 ♥, most probably he has sth like ♠QT9 ♥Qxx left. Endplay him: ♠A, ♥A, ♥K, ♥. Other main chance is stiff ♥honor with LHO. Other endings where you have a chance you should be able to read too. ♣KQJTx go like KQJ start, you should be able to differ these by RHO's discards. Problem feels too extensive, please give more info next time. probably there are some imperfections in my analyzes.

  20. That leaves LHO with ♠Kxxxx ♥x ♦xx ♣Axxxx
  21. If RHO has all the ramaining honours then this is cold. Couldn't he have ♠K9xx ♥KT7xx ♦xx ♣Qx !? Well, if he has this hand then i can't duck 1st trick, as they will establish clubs. For the same reason you can't win and return ♣. If you play ♦A-♦J, LHO will win and play another ♦. They will eventually collect ♦K,♣A,♦,♥K,♠K Only ramaining option seems ♦J at trick 2. Most likely play: ♦K and ♦ return by LHO; you win with ♦A and play small ♣ to force LHO's ♣A; ♣A and ♣ return;you win and play small ♥ to J; ♥K followed with ♥T by RHO; cash ♥AQ and endplay with remainin small ♥.. Even if RHO doesn't have this spesific hand, you are still cold if RHO does have all of the remaining points... e.g. if RHO has ♠K9xx ♥KT7xx ♦Kx ♣Qx play should go in a similar fashion.
  22. Exactly, normally you need something more than points to make games in misfits. You need some bidding room for this though, but 1♣-1♥ (as 5+ ♠; 2+controls; GF unless misfit) could be good for this.
  23. Why did he ask for stopper with singleton ♠K?
