R&T Teams League still open to registration
andych replied to DJNeill's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
The site looks really nice. Thanks wojela, Dan and all other organisers.... :o Hope everything is well with wojela and family. Trust everyone would understand if the league needs to be delayed. -
In MP Precision by CC Wei & Ron Anderson, 1♣=16+, 1NT=13-15. They propose not to open 1NT with 4 card major. How do you feel like the idea?

Name your favourite anti-NT convention
andych replied to Sigi_BC84's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I am unsure which one is best. But planning to pickup Meckwell, simply because it sounds cool to play sth of Meckwell   . BTW is it really played by Meckwell as the name suggests? Does Meckwell use this convention against both Strong NT and weak NT? If I pop in a meckwell overcall vs opps NT, and opps ask me what is the point range, what is the standard answer? I could not answer "judgement tells" though it is what we usually do....  -
Which team will win? Barcelona Arsenal AC Milan Villarreal

Could someone post a link for the top 3 hot picks tks .... :) :) Woolsey (or multi landy) Meckwell Lionel -
Not 2♣ from me neither. How about 2NT vs 3♠? Is 2NT crazy? B)

So will he (the receipient) receive the chat message if he is online but invisible? I tried that (typing his name direct in chat message) before when I want to chat someone whom I was unsure if he was online. He is usually invisible when he is online. I received xxx is currently not online or invisible. :( :) BTW just tried to login invisible. Chat to myself (typing my name direct in chat window), receive the message as recipient, and receive no "xxxx is currently not online or invisible" as sender.

still have problem with chinese lang in bbo
andych replied to AceOfHeart's topic in BBO Support Forum
OIC .... it is a problem for me too. I couldnt read Chinese (PRC) and Chinese (Taiwan) both at the same time. I am running Windows traditional Chinese (Taiwan). My control panel-->regional and language settings---> advanced --> traditional Chinese for non unicode programs. With the current setting above 1. Could not see the Chinese PRC tags e.g. in options page 2. Could see/type Chinese traditional in chat windows. 3. Could not see/type Chinese PRC in chat windows. If I change non unicode programs lang to Chinese PRC, I could then see the Chinese BBO tag e.g. in options page. Not remember clearly what happens to chat windows. -
I would also support ACBL open to kibitzers. If there were a problem, probably we could prohibit kibitzer chat to table/lobby/tournament some day (which means kitbitzer could only chat to kibtizers at the same table) .... I understand kibitzer could do that now ..... ;) :P

still have problem with chinese lang in bbo
andych replied to AceOfHeart's topic in BBO Support Forum
I am running chinese (taiwan) windows, and have not much problems in typing chinese (taiwan) in chat wndiows. Though sometimes certain characters wouldnt show but not that often. I understand there is an unoffical copy of chinese (taiwan) BBO 4.7.0. Would be great if BBO could make it offical. ;) :P -
BM2000 doesnt seem to remember the big deck/small deck option. It always use big deck upon restart. Is there any of those VarName*/VarValue* in irunin.ini that I could manully update to cure the problem? :D

Not trying to solve the problem. Something I like to hear .... sorry for branching away..... ;) Rosenbery is widely considered "the closest thing to a human DF". Does it has any relevance to label him "#1 individual player"? Acutally I hear some other world stars have their own image/label/charisteristic too... Helgemo - his Bridge is so special, talented Hamman & Meckstroth - practical Rodwell - mad scientist Zia - tricky, dont believe his cards Helness & Forrestor - the only 2 players where Helgemo stamp "Intelligient" in his book (which one?) Rosenberg - technical What is the meaning of Helgemo special, similar with Zia tricky? What is the meaning of Hamman/Meckstroth practical, similar with Rosenberg technical? I understand there is no clear answer. But guess it would be fun just to see your views....

Why not start with 2♥ over 1♠? Thanks for response. Thats my headache. 2♥ over 1♠ is forcing.
-
Let say you play in BBO ACBL with a pickup. Let say your pd open 1♦, bidding goes 1♦, (1♠), 2♣ by you would be forcing 1 round and pd would take that? More confusing, 1♦, (1♠), X, (Pass), 2♦, (Pass), 2♥, Pd would understand you hold 5 times hearts, sth like 3514 with 8-10 points, and that 2♥ is non-forcing? Yes I understand I should probably pass. But just so happen I would like to bid again with 2♥, would pd take that? :P

Should one be more aggresive?? You won much making a game. Losing 50/100 is not that matter. Analysis please

In the money bridge lobby, I saw e.g. 5 tables 18 players in 5 cents game. There should be 10 players playing. I wouldnt know who the remaining are? Please repost the link of learning GIB behaviour and keep it at top (sticky?) undeleted please    Need to get the money back .... hopefully from the table!!!

Another front BBO has an edge - the partnership desk. OKPlus offers similar partnership desk as BBO. Invitation is made on a button click and Pop up winidow is displayed for accept/decline. I think they copy from BBO. But OKPlus is awfully slow. OKWin only offers chat based partnership desk. :P :)

What will be their tariff? :P :) To me (posted before some time ago), BBO appears trailing in tourney front compared with OKB. There is faster tourney, swiss movement, unclocked tourney in OKB. The quickest ones would complete in 1 hr 5 mins. Normal ones 1 hr 15 mins. And their 1st OKB regular daily tourney starts 2 (or 3?) hours ahead of 1st BBO ACBL, the 11am. And they offer alternate scoring format (IMP/MP) on day-to-day basis, i.e. Monday IMP/MP/IMP ... Tuesday MP/IMP/MP ..... To me BBO may still has an edge that BBO is so clever to stay clear from the rating system. If you (most would) think you are a better player than your rating indicates, you would not easily get a partner that you think you deserve. So using words from the BBO ACBL directors, to BBO on tourney area, 'Step on the gas please' .......
-
Within a tourney, chances is that 80% of players do not need to call the directors thru out. There may be players who would call directors in f2f bridge but opt not to do so in online bridge. So the tourney has given fun to many players. Bad ruling does not outweigh their running a free tourney. For paid tourney I suppose we do have every right to needle :P :) the directors. Hope the free tourney directors are still having fun, especially the non-playing directors

NONSENSE IN A TEAM MATCH
andych replied to andych's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Would like to have your views, so more specific questions below 1. Should Team1 EW ask to scrape that single board? 2. Should Team 2 accept to scrape that single board? 3. Is it a problem that Team 2 offer only to cancel or keep all? 4. Should the above be affected by the state of the match? 5. Team 2 was actually trailing. Is it a ethical problem that one knew the state of the match? 6. Anyone guilty? Appreciate your views. Preferably with reasons behind. Thank you very much. -
I am Team2 N. I create the team match. Team1 vs Team2. Player names Team1 N/S/E/W. Team2 N/S/E/W Table settings - kibizer silent (set), baro off (default), undo not allow (default). Original Team1 E replaced by Team1 E at certain point, upon request of Team 1. [hv=n=s9h943da9832ck876&w=sa854h85dkt764ca9&e=sqt73hakqt76dc542&s=skj62hj2dqj5cqjt3]399|300|[/hv] E 1D W 1S E 2H W 2NT E 3NT W 5D N X E 5H W 6D N X E 6NT S X Following happens after the bidding. EW started to request undo/cancel this hand only after 6NT X. Chat file with player names masked. Except myself. All others unedited. Rules quote below. Team1 cancel the match and we restart from 0-0. :(

My experience with BBO tourneys has also been not so great. I seldom participate in BBO tourneys nowadays. So I may not have the clear picture of what the current situation is. Sounds it is becoming worse and worse. Just my 2 cents .... B) :) I agree with the current policy that virutally all players could be tourney directors if they take the move to apply for it. I have a dim view of any form of tourney directors rating system. More importantly I agree to limit the size of the tourney, REGARDLESS of who the director is. No matter how capable an individual director is, it may just be too tough for one single person to direct a 100/160!! pair tourney. It may be better to see a few smaller size tourney than a really big one. The smaller tourney would run faster. There would be fewer problems. There would be fewer unhappy faces. Indirectly it may reduce the no. of quitters (I hope so ...). Even there could be co-directors, multiple smaller sized tourney is still more preferable to large size tourneys.

Please don't dramatize this. I'm not talking about splitting up anything. I'm just proposing that for a start, the leagues should be organized according to time zones -- you are free to compete with your team in every league you want to. Think about it: in a league you don't just challenge a team, and if it doesn't work out you're done with it. A league requires that each team has played all other teams at some point. If certain matches are very hard (or impossible) to schedule, the league will come tumbling down on you really quickly... You don't sound offensive; you rather sound like you're not willing to think this through to the very end (sorry if it's me sounding offensive now). Don't compare the current ladder system to a potential league. These are two different things. --Sigi One could use different word, e.g. decompose/divde/separate/etc. But it means the same thing. Multiple regional league is differnt with single global league. In the BBO example, one could also play in diff BBO. Yet it is not welcomed at all. It is simply troublesome to compete in multiple league. We are currently competing with teams all over the world in the ladder. It is working. We would also be able to compete with all teams in league format. The key point is 'manage with good will', as posted by others. You could say that playing one team in ladder is not equal to playing all teams in league which is a must. Obviously I agree they are different. But if you have read the rules quoted, the writer did think to the very end. The adminstrator could grant win by forefiet/lose by forefiet, though cruel. Withdraw match does't apply in league format. It should mean granting a draw. BTW if Hue read this, supporting a draw in the current ladder would be great   . It sounds strange for a draw in a ladder. May have to figure out what it acutally means
