  1. I take it you play X of 2♦ as penalty. I'd bid 4cM freely here.
  2. I lead ♥4, not T. Tough problem. Can't say for sure whether I'd play the 8 or the jack. Partner is marked with about 7-9 hcp, 2-3 trumps and 3-4 hearts. We beat this if we can get 3 heart and a minor suit trick or 2 heart and 2 minor suit tricks. If partner has lead from the T, we need him to have ♣A and ♦A or ♦K. If partner has lead from the K, we need him to have one minor suit A. I guess I'd play him for the latter, and insert the jack.
  3. Clear pass IMO. We're not making game on this one after this bidding. Partner might make 4♣, but spades rate to be 4-2 (or even 5-1), so I'd say we'd not even make 3♠.
  4. They're alertable at all levels in Norway.
  5. The EBL implements the new laws for the European Championships and extend the decision for national tournaments to each individual NBO - the only sensible solution. As have been discussed elsewhere, implementing during a weekend isn't really a problem. Just have a regulation saying that events starting before that implementation date and ending on or after it, play under the old law (or implements the new law on the starting date). I doubt you'll play under different laws on one congress. I'm just a litttle less pedantic than you and include 1st January and 30th September in the allowed implementation period. Agree that it should say any time in the period 1st January through 30th September.
  6. That's irrelevent now. The new 2007 Laws specifically say that this type of restriction is allowed. Its not quite irrelevant as as far as I am aware most Zones have not yet implemented the new laws. The Danish BF implemented the new laws on January 1st. Guess they're the first to do so. Our federation haven't decided the date yet, it will probably be June 1st or July 1st.
  7. Agree with Justin and Josh on what hand type partner basically should show up with for this jump. Not sure I'd raise though. If partner's got a singleton heart there's a reasonable chance for making 5. If not, chances seem remote. I'd probably pass at MP and raise at IMPs.
  8. I'm with Justin here. One round of diamonds, then play hearts from the top.
  9. I'd lead the ♣T without much thought. There's so many possible ways for this to be right. And the ♦A is a sure entry.
  10. What do you mean, understand? It's got more than 2 syllables. :)
  11. Agree with adjusting to 3♥X-1, 200. There can be no doubt pass is a LA.
  12. 1♦ 2♣ will cause you problems following this advice when you have 4=4=4=1. Some solve this by rebidding 2♥ - excluding that bid from the normal reverse meaning (or have it 2-way with some mecanism to explore). I don't fancy that solution myself.
  13. This happen from time to time. There's no way to know why the hand is sorted - thus no information can be anticipated. Just ignore it.
  14. Pass. Partner didn't want to involve me any more in the decision. Can't see any reason to overrule him.
  15. Clear pass IMO. I like all side suit holdings, but have terrible trumps. If this is what partner need for slam he should have tried 5♠, not 4.
  16. West ducks the ♦T - what now?
  17. I'll try 5♥, hopefully partner is able to interpret this and evaluate his holdings accordingly.
  18. I'd go slowly, bidding 2♦ now. Expect to be able to show clubs later.
  19. Our bidding would start: 1♣ - 1♦ (trf) 1♥ If north now decide to rebid 1NT (yeah, it's possible) we'll play there. If north rebids 2NT south raises to 3NT.
  20. if that's the case, the topic may be closed! it's most definitely banned everywhere! Not true. They're not outlawed in Norway. I'm not sure, but believe that's the case in Denmark and Sweden too. Btw, I don't subscribe to the notion that L40D allows such banning - or rather that it should do so, as it's clear that the WBFLC believe this to be legal.
  21. Thanks all! I've had a small celebration with my two sons.
  22. I'd never expect to be in a forcing position over 5♦. We just jumped to game, which doesn't promise power.
