Not liking the forcing 1NT at all, I've got different methods here. I'd bid 2♥, which we use as a 2-way bid; either a weak 3x raise (3-7(8) hcp) or a 2/1 in hearts. This is a method gaining popoularity in Norway (it will never be mainstream though I'd say).
With my regular pard we'd start: 1♣ - 1♠ 2♠ 1♠ = 6-9 bal/unlimited with ♦ 2♠ = 55 11-13 (bad 14) After that we MIGHT stop short of game (♠ partial) or end up in 4♠, depending on how conservatively we'd evaluate our hands. We'd absolutely not reach 3NT, that's for sure.
Do most people in the rest of the world play 2NT as 18-19 here? In Norway it's standard among top players to play 2NT as a conventional GF. Not sure for how long, but it's probably like 15 years since I started playing that.
I'd most probably have bid 4♠ with the south hand, but it's very close. Definitely agree with Justin and Mike regarding the north hand - that would be a more or lesss automatic raise to 4♠. There's a bonus for bidding and making game, you know. :P
12 boards in 90 minutes is normal (for most) playing tempo IRL. IRL speedball as I've learnt it is at a speed of 3 boards pr 10 minutes. 12 boards in 60 minutes is slower than I normally play IRL. How you can call this speedball online is beyond me.
I do, I think. On this hand, however, I think it would be inadvisable if playing 1430 responses. How would you cope with a 6S reply? I play 1430 responses, but revert to 0314 over exclusion. That's mandatory IMO.
Here I play: pass=2♥ 2♥=3♥ and a ♦ holding I'd like the lead coming up to. XX=3+♥ and a ♦ holding suggesting partner be declarer (xx/xxx/Ax/Axx etc). Higher bids - superaccept
Suit and rank. SHCD, unless I've got a singleton S/D. I often move cards I expect to be playing next, and often have 2-3 cards ready. I'm keeping my hand close to the chest or below the table.
