This is not penalty to me - it shows a maximum, basically balanced and decent defence. Partner converts or takes it out according to his hand.

I'd open this 1♣, playing with my regular partner. If that's no option I pass. After opening 1♣ I'll back in with 4♠. Having passed originally this is much tougher. I'd probably still come alive with 4♠, but passing is (much) closer now.

I'm doubling and am pretty sure it's the correct bid with this hand. However, on the actual deal 5♥ might be the winner. I'll still go with the odds.

It makes no sense (to me) to start a cuebidding sequence without having agreed upon a trump suit.

I'd rebid 4♣ now. That's forcing to me. Opening this hand 5♣ is...... I haven't got words for that. To me bridge is a partnership game. This isn't close to a 5♣ opening at any colours. I don't think I'd contemplate that even if I were absolutely desperate.

If 2/1 is 100% GF I'll always rebid 3NT with a minimum 5422. However, in one partnership I play 1♠-2♣-x-3♣ as invite. There I'd rebid 3♣ on AQ over 2NT.

Looks like an easy pass in my opinion. 5♠ would be a general slam try for me.

Basically agree with Justin. However, if playing with someone I know I can trust, this would be Exclusion, even undiscussed.

Surely the worst think that can happen is that partner passes and we have a better game? KJxxx xxxx x QJx, for example. I suppose. I don't see how the alternatives get us to 4♠ either. At least if pard has 2=3 in the minors I expect a preference to 2♦ and we will get to 4♠. The 3♦ bidders will play 3♦ Lets say you bid 2C. Pd gives preference to 2D. Then what? 2S can be bid on a 3 1 5 4 that is not as good by far as the posted hand or a 3163. Are you going to bid 3S? That may well get you overboard when 3D was your best spot. It seems to me the 2C bidders are only delaying a possible problem. Yeah, I'm planning on rebidding 3♠. That gives partner a reasonable chance to evaluate his hand and make a decision. He'll be expecting 3154 rather than 3163, but I can live with that. We won't end in a terrible 4-3 spade contract, can reach game wen that's reasonable and else play our best (or 2nd best) partscore. We might end up in 4♦ when 3♦ is the best spot, but then I just have to take 10 tricks, wtp? :rolleyes:

Easy 3♦ - support with support. You can always get to 3NT from your side later if that's where you belong.

I also prefer 2NT on the previous round. Now I'm bidding 4♥.

I'm going for the low spade. No great conviction though, but that's what feels right for me.

I'd just rebid 2♣ here. I think that's the bid that will work out best in the long run, lacking other gadgets. Alternative being a 3♥ minisplinter, but I really don't like that with 3c support only.

The auction calls for caution here. I'd go passive with the ♥J.
