  1. I can't imagine not being able to overcall 1S and now being able to pass 1S X or 1S XX, so logically I would play this as neutral.
  2. They live in the snow, what do you expect? They also have the best chess player, 3 of the best 10 bridge players in the world, a junior bridge team that won a gold medal recently on top of the best winter athletes, and they have a basically tiny population. It is just unreal how good Norway is at everything for it's size. Snow activities and indoor activities, two things that probably coorelate very strongly with how much snow they get. I bet they do a lot worse in the summer olympics! Yeah I mean I agree that they rate to be more likely than normal to be good at those things because of their climate, but their ratio of people who are great at these things to their population is just insane. It is completely disproportionate, more than just their climate could explain. I just read their wiki page, they also seem to be the richest country in the world by many measures, with a very stable economy and a lot of industries. I suppose this wealth affords them the luxury of being able to become very strong at things like bridge and skiing, as well as good technology and stuff like free education etc. Still Norway seems like a remarkable country.

  4. Norway third in medal count at the olympics so far? LOL, population of like 5 million, and they are the best at EVERYTHING. So freaking sick, what a country.
  5. Yeah I see what you're saying, I just wonder if it's necessarily true or if we just think it is. I always have the feeling that people were happier then, I'm not sure why. Happiness is just such a relative thing and so hard to grasp (for me anyways). edit: on the other hand maybe we could teach them to freebase! lol
  6. Ya I also think you might get insta killed if you did not do this correctly, and quickly forgotten. You'd probably have to ease into it and build it up slowly for years. Anyone ever think that not changing anything would be best? I wonder sometimes if people were happier back then, and if our quality of life really hasn't gone up, just our perceived quality of life. Maybe the real play would be to hinder technology lol.
  7. Serious risk that they'd kill you if you did stuff like this, although I guess it depends how far back you go. I guess you could claim to be sent by god, but they might think youre a warlock or something.
  8. They already knew about alcohol...I guess I could teach them card combos that's about it! On second thought I could pwn them in poker games.
  9. You should tell ch00bacca that! http://www.bridgebase.com/tools/handviewer...4285-1265004615 wow that is pretty nasty actually...three aces!
  10. I think most people who play negative freebids also play a jump to 3D as a strong GF 1 suiter so that X then diamonds is more like 5 diamonds and a GF, not sure though I've never played negative freebids.
  11. Other things equal, I'd prefer to be playing in an event where kind opponents give me the best chance to make this slam, and doubled to boot... Really? So your preferred field would be a novice game?
  12. Yeah I understand, I'm just saying if it is 95 % that they have doubled with ATxx and 5 % they've doubled with "other" then the other stuff doesn't really matter (assuming doubleton diamond happens at least reasonably often). I've really never seen one double with a yarb and a stiff trump in this type of auction, and you see it happen very often that they double with some pseudo trump trick. In fact I was just reading some old junior bridge hand where someone doubled with JTxx and an ace lol. Declarer double finessed his honors obv, don't think he worried about the opp making a completely random double and owning him. Going with the title of this thread, to me it is completely overthinking to assume they double you without thinking in their minds that they are gonna take 2 tricks, so our only goal is to figure out in their heads what hands are they so sure they're taking 2 tricks with that they'd double, and ATxx of hearts and some stuff is just pretty obvious to me, maybe you've had different experiences in these situations though. Sure sometimes when they have ATxx you survive when you play the king first, but you're basically freerolling yourself imo since they almost always have that.
  13. I don't really care about how swingy it is because imo they are going to almost always have ATxx of hearts. Doubling with a stiff heart does not make sense, all south has done is bid hearts and then bid keycard when raised, he could have 7 or 8 hearts. Also if he doesn't have the HA, he doesn't even know his side has a keycard. They had a queen ask auction where one guy denied any kings, so they could just be off a critical king. Even if they're off a keycard it might be the onside king. Anyways, this analysis is all pretty dumb since whatever west has doubled on they've done something stupid. I guess I will just say that in my experience when they do something stupid it's way more often that they thought ATxx of trumps plus some queens would definitely take 2 tricks, than it is that they doubled with a stiff trump and nothing else on a basically unlimited auction, and it's not really close to me. I think in general if you just take these doubles at face value and pick off their trumps and don't worry about going down in a cold contract you will do really well in the long run.
  14. Qx x Q97x AQJ9xx I opened 3N, defined as 25-27 HCP balanced, gib passes..what? edit: Rogerclee playing same robotdupe and it was duplicated.
  15. Results: I played low, declarer played the spade queen, I played low and he....insta hooked. I had KJx of spades...pwned.
  16. Yeah definitely play a heart to the 8. Assuming hearts are 4-0, diamonds being 5-2 is very likely, and hearts are almost always 4-0. Sure it's possible they just doubled on QJ of clubs, SQ, HA, and DJ because they had 10 points, but that takes a very special type of player, and even then you will often survive if LHO has ATx of hearts.
  17. With a 4 card major could opener X first and then "retreat" to 2NT when partner replies in our shorter major (as expected) or would X promise an unbalanced hand here? 4432 I'd probably X rather than bid 2NT... or are you advocating bidding 2NT with those kinds of hands too? If we can have a balanced hand for X, does 2NT show something like a 3334 or 3235 19 count and make us lean away from the majors? I would think that something like 2434 might bid 2N rather than X but I don't know. As I said if I was just going to make an agreement for every specific auction it would definitely be 3C NF + transfers here and forget about 4-4 fits, because as you say partner will often double with a 4 card major. Maybe he would always double with (42) in majors, I'm not sure.
  18. Oh I see, so he just loses finding 4-4 major fits via 3C transfer to diamonds aka stayman. I guess that is fine. TBH it's hard to have a blanket rule for every auction, but if I did I would agree with 3C NF and 3D/3H transfers.
  19. I think north has a close decision but that his signoff is very reasonable.
