  1. No, see Law 74. It's a violation of the laws to intentionally violate the laws.
  2. This is why I generally prefer a system where 2♥ is an immediate negative, and all non-broke responder hands start with 2♦. Give the 'hard' hand all the bidding room.
  3. Once the J♦ comes down, I'm banging the other high diamond on the table immediately. If the T♦ falls we just have 12 tricks right away without finessing anything (4♦+4♠+3♣+1♥.
  4. GIB will always take a high level "takeout" double as showing lots of values (17+, say), so it isn't going to bid 5 over 5 when it expects to take several doubled uptricks. Indeed, it looks like 4♠ should be down 1 with NS not CLOSE to making anything at the 5 level
  5. I don't think that can possibly be right. Let's say transferer has a 6 card suit. Then the other 3 players have on average 2.3333 cards in the transfer suit. Given that we know opener has at least, we can rule our all the cases where opener as a singleton or void, that can only shift partners expectation higher.
  6. Hate hate haate the way the cards look. The Windows client is still superior, and this seems to take every design thing I hated about the Flash version, the proliferation of beiges and browns for one, and also just bad looking cards, and makes it worse.
  7. Impossible to answer without knowing the rest of your system. Upgrade good 14s? Good 17s out of one NT? Open 1NT with 5 card major.... never/sometimes/always? etc
  8. Not going to look very clever when spades are 3-1 or the A is in ♥.
  9. I always open the major on these hands, even 5-7. Modern systems are just not built to back into a 5 card major... you'll never get there.
  10. Curious to see the many votes for a club. That'd be my LAST choice.
  11. I do think your final conclusion is correct, but I think you are getting the analytics wrong by not including at least a small percentage of 3♦-2 or even -3. +500 and +800 usually imp out well. I think a lot of it comes down to partnership style. For instance, I tend to balance light and accept heavy (I wouldn't bid 4♠ here without near-opening values or a _Really_ good ♠ suit + shortness.) - and that would make me lean away form passing. OTOH, versus a partner I know to balance timidly, I would be more likely to pass since it's much less likely to be a "courtest" X.
  12. I like sitting in these sort of situations but A9xx is NOT enough with nothing else going for the hand.
  13. For me: 2M = cheapest stopper, 2NT=Minimum, but stoppers in both majors and _probably_ the 4th suit as well.
  14. Why on earth didn't S raise ♠ with 3 card support?
  15. The universe will end if you Michaels on a good 5-4.
  16. As for the range... I guess GIB system would MIchaels either weaker or stronger. Or make an offshape takeout X.
  17. This is why I hate nebulous 2♦ waiting with a passion. Opening 2♣ is a bad bid to begin with, 2♦ just kneecaps it all together.
  18. I'd also add that when an 8+ fit it known, at matchpoints prefer to play 3N if values are 27-32ish - e.g. not enough for slam with two balances ahnds, but a more than minimum game values. Often produces the same tricks as 4M, and sometimes makes when 4M isn't (e.g. 5-0 trump break)
  19. Seems like you'd be opening 2♦ (or whatever your catch-all is) rather a bit too often. Also, my experience with big clubs has shown me that having 17+ hands outside of 1♣ is generally a mistake.
  20. While well intentioned I think it's ultimately pointless. Aunt Gladys doesn't know what Multi is, and would have zero interest in such a tourney.
  21. If I may be somewhat contrarian - at the Beginner/Novice/Intermediate level I'd spend my time just playing as many hands as possible. Those sort of book plays come up maybe 1 hand in 25 or 1 hand in 50... I don't think it's overly productive to plow time into that until you're getting the 98% of hands that are straightforward right.
  22. 1♠ on all days ending in 'y', and twice on Sundays.
  23. This one's on you. Playing with GIB open your 5 card majors. If you're 5=0=8=0 open the major.
  24. Because they didn't openin 3rd seat? Partner doesn't have a good anything.
  25. That's a very dangerous overloading of terms. You wouldn't refer to a Advanced Telephony Module as an ATM.
