  1. Not good enough X and bid imo. Should have more defense, and if partner bids 5 of a minor you're really in a world of hurt. ATxxxxx really isn't that special. I think 2♠ is fine. To have a real shot at 4 partner needs either good spades or good stuff in the minors, and with either 2♠ shouldn't end the auction. A direct 4♠ isn't terrible, but again you really need more suit quality. If dummy comes down with either a void or a stiff you could easily have 3 trump losers. So overall I'd say like... 2♠ = 10 4♠ = 6 X = 1
  2. I mean, as soon as LHO asks for an undo you're far into the realm of not-bridge, so...
  3. That's my take as well, CY. At the very least I think the claim states an order of play, e.g. trumps first, and since he's in dummy and has a trump to lead there, I think the line of play is lead a trump and then cover the 8 with the J. I would have a word with S about sloppy claims certainly, but I can't see myself giving the defense a trick.
  4. 1♣-1♦ 1NT-2♣ 2♦-2♠ p 1♣ = precisoin 1♦ = 0-8 1NT = 17-19 not unbalanced 2c = stayman, etc
  5. Does N even have to have A♦ here? If he had, say, KJ in ♥ and Qxxxx in ♦ doesn't he bid the same way?
  6. Not sure there's really any blame to assign here. Hard to find Q♣ anywhere on the auction and that's a two trick difference. Whatever N is hoping for, S has basically the worst possible hand.
  7. I seriously doubt the yellows care how you run your tournaments. You get what you pay for.
  8. Why is south showing "less than 2 qs" with 2qs?
  9. You can set Funbridge up that way... it's in the settings. Something like "Suit Preselection" set to "none" or "off".
  10. In terms of good bidding, SAYC is "Abandon all hope, ye who enter here". I'd go so far as to say that when considering who a bid should be used, look at what SAYC does and then play whatever convention is farthest from.
  11. Also pass in SMP can be a good hand, with doubling interest (e.g. they just bid my 5 bagger in front of me). In general I would disregard anything from Goren Precision (Or Wei Precision, for that matter). They state of the art has moved quite far, and the "meta" has shifted quite a bit.
  12. Maybe someone so sensitive to "constant attacks" shouldn't go around kicking sand in peoples faces.
  13. GIB supported that 20 years ago. BBO just never offer the option.
  14. For 1NT to still be forcing by a passed hand is highly unusual.
  15. Not to the point I'd downgrade them out of a narrow-ranged strong opening.
  16. Hah. I got dealt ♠AKQJTxxxx ♥- ♦- ♣AKJxx once. Small club game. Hand dealt. (Yeah, I couldn't resist, and opened 7♠. Q♣ came down doubleton.)
  17. Something something difference between climate and weather.
  18. Not really that hard to see what happened. Partner had something like ♠Kxx ♥QJxx ♦xxx ♣xxx and the other tables started 1♣-1♥-3♥.
  19. Yes! That's the entire point. If you don't want to be in slam with all suits controlled, don't cuebid! That is, again, literally the point of cuebiding.
  20. Your methods are confusing to me. What is parter supposed to bid over 3♣ with, say, ♠QJx ♥KQ ♦AKQJ ♣T9xxxx If that isn't enough to accept a help-suit try, I don't know what to tell ya.
  21. Agree with partner cuebidding 5♣... you don't want him denying "genuine club support" with something like T9xxxx do you? After 5♣, just bid 5♥. This focuses attention on the diamond suit and partner should raise to 6 with a ♦ control - that's basically the point of cuebidding in the first place.
  22. I'm not a fan. Having positive responses in 1♦ is just asking for trouble - although if it were legal in ACBL-land I could convert to Moscito style where all the POSITIVE hands go into 1♦ and 1♥ is the bad bid. These days I'm playing SMP, which is basically Meck-lite. All 8+ hands go through either 1♥ (Nebulous 8-11), with various followups, or in this case a direct 1♣-2♠ is a 4441 12+ Pretty easy to learn as relays are kept to a minimum and most auctions develop naturally. The 1♥ over 1♣ is a big win for keep things low on simple hands, and overall the system just works well. 1♦ is 2+ and 2♣ is 6+. It's just a good pragmatic system that works well in the current meta. (e.g. frequent overcalls) and keeps mad science to a minimum. https://www.amazon.com/Standard-Modern-Precision-Getting-There/dp/1771401796
  23. This doesn't feel like a hand that should be describing. I'd be very tempted to just bid 6N.
