I open pretty light, but I don't open this hand. My 11's that I open 1st/2nd will either be AK suits or have somet sort of distributional upgrade. Having said that, there are essentially 2 approachs here, both of which are playable, just as usual you need to be on the same page with partner. Either 2NT promises extras, and the 2♠ rebid does NOT promise a 6th spade, or 2NT does NOT promise extras and 2♠ *does* promise a 6th spade.

That's simple. One of the very first lines is "anything not specifically allowed is disallowed". So silence = banned.

I would disagree with this statement. 2♣ is *asking* for a 4 card major, full stop.

Most bidding problems are a lot easier when you have a suit that plays for one loser opposite a void. Most of the time you don't have that luxury.

I would argue that it IS abnormal, to a claimer who is aware there is exactly one trump outstanding. Playing high first can never cost, playing low can (in exactly this situation, where declarer has the count right and the rank wrong). While I can see ground to support ruling either way, as an opponent I would voluntarily concede both tricks without a second thought.

This has bitten me numerous times... on an auction like (1X)-1Y[GIB]-(p)-?? New suits by me are routinely passed by GIB. How exactly is one supposed to show 6+Z and 14 here?

Theere's a big difference between an unbalanced 17 (or 16) and an unbalanced 14.

How else does the N hand make a move towards grand slam? Passing 5♦ can't be right. The north hand, for the auction, is an absolute monster.

The less you think about point counts the better your bidding will become. This is 1940s thinking.

1. I have an obvious below-game cuebid. So I make it. 2. Obvioisly this is a bug, but i think your 3♦=14-17 splinter is just nullo and hopeless. Way to get to the 3 level with no play opposite a misfitting 6 count with wastage in your shortness.

This sort of attitude sounds like an abuse of the bid. Partner has PLENTY of other ways of asking if I have a good 2♠ bid. Like bidding 3♠. Partner didn't do that. Partner asked about clubs and I have probably the 2nd least useful possible club holding.

If this is an accept, you're not playing help suit game tries - or this is a new partner asking bid. poor poor partner if he has something like AJxxx Jxxx - AQxx.
