Alternatively for scoring, swiss it like chess. Play 2 16 segments. If one player wins both, the match is 1-0, if they split, score it as a draw, 0.5-0.5. Note: this ignores margin of victory. Losing one set 0-16, and winning the other 9-7 is an overall draw. A lose and an 8-8 tie could be scored as 0.75-0.25 I suppose.

In favor of: Swissing (possibly with a cut factor?) Shorter matches (no more than 32). Neutral on: MPs vs IMPs (Actually, the more I think about, if swissing it should probably be IMPs, as then we can use an appropriately calculated VP table)

The problem with Xing insteading of bidding 3NT is that we then almost never get to play 3NT.

4♠.

IMP, E-W Vul, what do you bid?

Why didn't I bid 2NT over 2♣? -
For the hand to be even close to an interestingf decision I'd suggest something like [hv=pc=n&n=s432hakq962dcj754]133|100[/hv]

Simulataneously / in fact may have even said a few words BEFORE putting the ♦ on the table.
-
Sorry, reversed E/W. It's EAST that's on lead and West that's irrelevant. North was declarer, south dummy.
-
So here's the situation. N is declaring in a NT contract. with 4 tricks to go W is on lead and leads the T♥. Dummy's last 4 cards are JT♦ (Good), and Kx♣ (not good). East's holdings/plays are irrelevant. Declarer holds the J♥ (boss), a small ♦, and Jx♣. Declarer pitches a ♣ from dummy, and *thinks* he wins the trick with the J♥, but actually plays the J♣, then tables a ♦ claiming 2 of the last 3, conceding a ♣. W leads another ♥ as the claim statement is being made, and the director is now called to figure out WTF to do. [hv=pc=n&s=shdjtck2&w=shdc&n=shjd2cj3&e=sht2dcaq]399|300[/hv]

Frankly, Phil, you should have mentioned playing against GIB in your OP. I thought we were discussing ActualBridge. -

1. Pass WTP 2. Pass 3. Don't love 2N rebid with that shape but without being given a hand I'm obstaining. Depends on texture of the !D suit and the doubletons 4. Ok? 5. Passsssss 6. 1N 7. Despise 1D. 1S for life. 8. Kc -
Because it's hardly an anomoly. Historically, male supremacy is much much more common than the reverse.

Undefined bids, idle bids and psychic auto-controls

3C to me is like a 2-2-3-6 hand or something -
How to induce a step-up

Suitplay says the best line (by about 5%) is lead to the K -
While we're on the subject, the "it's your turn to play sound" has this sort of very sibilant reverb to it that drives me absolutely BONKERS. Admittedly, my PC sound system is probably a few order of magnitudes better than your average users (Good external DAC, external amp, big floorstanding speakers, etc).

Under what law? GIVING UI is not illegal, and never has been. Acting on it is.

But this is only a SINGLE jump, not a double jump.

Funny timing...I just ordered the book on this.

If I'm on I'm willing. I've played both strong club canape and "natural" canape.

It's not usually a problem in a "real" event with multiple directors where the previous rounds VPs are already on the big board before assignments go up. One director running a small club game is very different.

Hrrm, that's an interesting thought. Unfortunately, I don't have the full results matrix, but for my team (Team 2, surprise, surprise) it would be... For Team 2: 20x45 + 16x49 + 11x24 + 7x46 = 900+784+264+322 = 2270 For Team 7: (I think this is right, might be off by a couple) 13x48 + 20x24 + 20x11 + 20x31 = 624+480+220+620 = 1926 So, according to Sonneborn-Berger Team 2 should get 1st...

So, had a one session Swiss at the club yesterday... The following happened... Setup: 1 session, 11 teams, 4 rounds of 6 boards, STAC Team Game 4x H2H matches, 1 2-round 3-way Team 6 and 7 were playing in the second round. The result turned in was Team 6 winning in a blitz. The wrong team number was written on the card, and it was actually team 7 that won, but this was not discovered until after round 3. As a result of team 7 getting "blitzed", they were placed into the 3 way and promptly ate the Flight C fish, and scored 40 VPs in the last 2 rounds, for an event winning 73 VPs. Team 2, the team that finished 2nd in the event, with a score of 53VPs was extremly unhappy, as they had played strongish (by local standards) teams in all 4 rounds, and more importantly, never gotten to play team 7. If the proper results had been turned in for round 2, Teams 2 and 7 would have played in round 3. So, what the heck should director do in this situation? (Directors actual ruling, which IMO wasn't legal but might be the pragmatic least of all evils, was to award Team 2 and 7 as a mutual tie for 1st.)
