1) pass is not forcing by me either. but implied that parnter could bid on 5s with both diamond and spade double fit with shortage in club. 2) as i reading the auction, the opps's XX shows 4 card hearts most likely, otherwise he would choose 3c raise in the first place. i always try to use the LAW and the 5 level decision, opps has 10 or 11 club fit, and we had most 9 spade fit, total winner is 20. plus some downgrade adjustment due to HJ98, singleton diamond in partner's diamond suit. so i would choose defense. plus penalty double. 3) i have no idea, tough decision on the table. probably Pass. hope it all make sense. shan,

as you plann to rebid 4d anyway (anthonie rebid 5d), would it be better to introduce 3c and rebid diamond later ? well, parnter may pass your 3C, which indicates strong club preference, such as 3 club, 1D. or 4 club. other than that, partner always had weak preference 3d bid, and bidding is still alive.

East-West did play support double. east had to choose between 3D & 3C. i would choose 3c here, as 3c showing 2 suiters, and is likely keeping the bidding going/open. disadvantage of 3D is that partner can easily pass it with no fit while 5/6 level contract is there. to hannie, playing IMPS, i don't really worry about bypassing 3NT with 1174 hands, in the acutal auction, the club suit is toally buried. -------- 1D - ( P ) 1S - (2H) - 3D - (4H) 4N - (4H) - P - ( P ) 5S - ( P ) - 6D //

it's all preempty bid by me, as long as i found 11 or 12 heart fit, following law of tatal tricks. then if i had strong hand to invite slam, i always start with 2NT or new suit forcing. shan
