If you play it strong , you need to have a narroow range or else you will miss games which hurts especially when you are vulnarable. that's true ;), flame, i play it 12-14hcp in vul. and we don't use invitational bids in vul, due to narrow range. and leave more room to investigate major game instead. (major game for imps is more important than to preempt opps). shan
-
4S, partner showed 2 suits already, i have excellent fit for him. shan
-
i play this 2 minors 2nt as well, i like it especially in NON-VUL. 2nt bids indeed give opps a lot pressure, (sometimes to my partner too). in vul, i had a couple of huge loss, for example, we have 2M contract, now we play 3 level contract going down 2; and major game would be little hard to explore; etc. so i decide to play it with opening hand with VUL now. shan
-
pass, double could work out while partner has value&length in spade and club. however it's quite risky in vul.

there's one thing i need add on here, . J7x A98xx usually play low from south, and finesse 7 at dummy. succeed while LHO QT, KT, Tx, and KQTx shan
-
regarding to drury, i would choose 2s cuebid as michael, double of 2c/2d drury as compete bid with that suit, (may not be the lead directing as ben suggested, however not sure of which way is better). shan
-
not sure of the best line, but i won't take Diamond finesse. Playing DA first, then ruff heart to setup the heart suit. it works with singleton DK, OR D Kx with short in hearts. shan
-
2s by me either, however i suspect 3c could be winning bid here, due to 3nt contract. isn't it ? shan
-
i play 2h relay after 2c opening, (similar to kokish 2h) 2c - 2d waiting 2h - 2s (2h relay to 2s) 3c - 4c (3c is showing both heart and club suit, could be 45/54/55 suiters), . . . well, 6c is not easy, but it's on the way now. (matched what fred says <_< ) shan

high level decision?
shanbari replied to vang's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
could you pls give us more detail of why edgar kaplan bid 4s? what's his guideline, or just a guess. thanks, shan -
this is tough one, with opener S: A Q J x x, H: K Q x, 4s contract is high enough; with S: A K x x x, C: Q T x x, 6S becomes odds on. there's no way to find partner's value in club or wasted in hearts. but i do respect opener's 4S choices. so pass by east then. btw, 4h splinter took too much room, i would go slowly as 3h bid, limit raise or better. further question, what do you bid, if bidding goes 1s (2h) ? S: K J x x x H: x D: A x x x C: x x x actually i would bid 4h here, showing good 4s raise, probably 7-10hcp. so 4h is no longer splinter within my partnership. any comments ? shan

ooops, not fun any more. misread the dealer.

A Moysean Minor Game.

with sayc, it's little tough job, but you may try 3D after 3c. I would define 3D as club fit, but not willing pass 3nt, which allows partner to signoff in 3nt with minimal, or describe more shape. of course, opener may use 3d as cuebid before slam going, he would confirm it at 4 level later on shan -
double by west is the worst bid, definately 3s by me knowing east's spade support and club shortage.
-
regarding to "easy" hannie mentioned above, i would try 1H - 3S ( splinter, usually 5-6 losers) 7H, (7h bid is same logic as hannie&ben mentioned.) fun, :) shan
-
i don't like 3S either. bidding 3S then following 5C (mostly like partner bid 4H/4D instead of 3nt&4c) shows 2 or 3 loser hand, by my understanding. partner could easily push to slam if he held 2 tricks (such as 2 aces, or 1 aces 1 CK) so i chagne my vote to 4c/5c. SHAN

as north, i would bid 4c at second round, strongly asking partner to compete. so i put blame on north somehow. shan

MARTEL 2NT, (it's better than traditional jacoby 2nt, i believe) 1) 3C = Minimum. 3D asks. Opener's rebids: ... 2) 3D = No splinter, some extra values, suitable for slam. (Good 15HCP+ without splinter) 3H asks... 3) 3H = Other Major splinter, extra values. In general, when showing splinters, steps are high, middle, low (or high, low if only 2) 4) 3S = Diamond splinter, extra values. 5) 3N = Club splinter, extra values 6) 4C/4D/4OM = 5-card suit to A or K, extra values. 15hcp+ btw, fred and bergen method seems cover more, isn't it? and i haven't fully understand ben's method yet, since it's quite long, :) shan

Where is the mistake?
shanbari replied to mila85's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
After a Minor suit opening, Italian Juniors are taught to use what they call "Multi-reverse", e.g. first suit above suit rebid shows a GENERIC REVERSE, can be any shape (even the balanced hand), then responder gets to know more of opener's hand after a relay. All hcp-power hands go via the Multireverse. This works fairly well, and frees the use of the 2NT and 3 level jump-bids for more distributional hands. interesting, any moer detail of how opener to continue ? thanks shan -
ic, ben, EW hands is mirror on the side suit. very bad, since west hold only 4 card spade, unfornately. BTW, 5D by east seems only down 1, unless they can get spade ruff. further question, if west held 55 shape, then 5D by east may be better option ? would opps find 5/6h contract at high level, it seems 50/50 chance. anyway, the original 1s garanteed 4 card spade is making the things slightly different. then Pass is truely winning choice. shan
-
hi ben, 5d seems fail on this one then, i didn't realize that the 5c bidder could hold 5 card hearts ! do you have the full hand, i need to read the spade and diamond fit by our side. thanks, shan
-
i don't like 3nt either, because partner would bid 4h over 3nt most of time. i choose double following 4c/5c bid, depend on partner's strength. (using lebensohl) shan
-
3C, i may miss game, but i would gain if we reach 6d/6c. due to my singleton spade, 3C doesn't seem to be passed out. shan
-
hi ben, with double fit, i tend to bid on as 5D to prevent the double swing on both table. 5C could be easily made, if opener got 7 card club, while our 5D won't go down too much, and it could be made at some good day. i have to admit, pass and 5c is very close to me. shan
-
pass by me to get plus score. btw, i would have bid 2nt forcing to explore the game possibility. while 3H jump at first round is weak showing both major support. shan
