  1. North is dealer, 15hcp S: KXX H: KQTXX D: AQJ C: XX South is holding, 18hcp S: AX H: AJ D: KTXXX C: AQXX what's your reasonable bidding and find the double fit of both heart and diamond to reach the beautiful grand ? shan
  2. 1. i play goodbad 2nt, so direct 3H in vul shows this hand. 2. pass, matchpoint, and partner's 3c seems minimal already. SHAN
  3. 4C shows 64 seems a good bid as well, even though a lie of 4 card spade support. shan
  4. agree to 3d = strong club suit, [hv=n=skxxxxxhxdqxckjxx&w=sjtxhqxxxxdaxxxcx&e=sxhjtxxdkjxxxxcxx&s=saqxhakxdxcaqxxxx]399|300|[/hv] south starts the bidding 1C, 1c==(p)==1s==(2N) ?==(5H)==? if south pass/x after 2N, then north would be under great presure to bid out spade or club in this auction. i would like to bid 3d to show club suit, or even 4d as someone mentioned. then 6c/s would be certainly on the way. shan
  5. [hv=d=s&v=n&s=saqxhakxdxcaqxxxx]133|100|Scoring: IMP south opened 1C, LHO passed, Partner 1S, RHO jump in 2N (2 red suiters) what's south best descriptive bid now ? [/hv] as i understand, cuebid 3H is club suit with strong hand, cuebid 3D is strong hand spade support. but i wonder 3D promise 4 card support ? thanks, SHAN
  6. it totally make sense, especially i like 1nt - 2D; 2H - 2S; 2s is general invitation with 5 hearts. with that method, responder with 5H 5m invitational hand can always find good fit and stop at low level. the only thing bother me is how to show 5M5m GF hand, unless we play KERI 2C. SHAN
  7. [hv=d=e&v=n&n=sxxxhaqjxxxxdcajx&s=shxxxdqj8xxcktxxx]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] W N E S -- -- (2C) P (2D) 3H (3S) 4H (4S) P (P) P we passed 4s, and we had icecode 5h, actually 6h was there due to singleton CQ dropped in east hand. whom to blame ? SHAN
  8. great structure, fred, and it fits very well with reverse flannery as well. one more question. 1c - 1s; 2h - ? if responder had 5s 3c WEAK hand, do you prefer 2s rebid or 3c rebid ? thanks, SHAN
  9. i won't overcall 3s here, i rather X or pass. if i missed some partscore, so let it be, we have to give some credit to opps' preempty. shan
  10. [hv=d=e&v=n&s=shxxxdqj8xxcktxxx]133|100|Scoring: IMP [/hv] as i see, some choose 4h, some 4D, or pass... whatever you choose, bidding is certainly not over yet due to the vulnerability, we are red against White. most of time opps would outbid our 4h. i am south holding above hand. N E S W - 2C P 2D 3H 3S 4x 4S P P ? here comes the second question, do you still bid on or not ? or you may feel that you want to bid enough in first place to avoid the second decision? (i choosed 4H bid at table, then i face the second bidding issue again as i expected.)
  11. X for me as well, if partner jump 3H, i am stuck, i may try 4C to continue. SHAN
  12. this one sounds quite fun, i choose defence on both 5D and 4H, and choose both heart lead. SHAN
  13. H4, hope to score 1H and 2 club if partner return club. unless opps void in heart, which is highly possible, then i would regret i didn't lead C6. SHAN
  14. bidding goes: RHO started the 2c bid, i passed, and LHO bid 2D, partner jump in 3H, RHO continued 3S, what now with my hand ? SHAN
  15. there's a lot to say about 3H, but it's not simple as opening 3H. you are in the position to figure it out. partner is certainly not novice, he knows what he should do. SHAN
  16. Dealer: East Vul: N/S Scoring: IMP ♠ ♥ xxx ♦ QJ8xx ♣ KTxxx N E S W ---2C P 2D 3H 3S ? RHO opened strong 2C, and 2D is normal waiting bid. you partner jump in 3H, what do you do after RHO's 3S, SHAN
  17. i don't mind overcall 1s with south hand, sometimes i even overcall 1s with 4441 shape. regarding to north hand, i would do 3S, knowing opps had 9/10 heart fit already. i may push them in 4H, but they may bid it in anyway, i cannot stop them. i need compet and tell parnter 4 card support. SHAN
  18. this is tough one without seeing all hands, based on the first post, partner's S4 should discourage the Heart continue, otherwise, he would play S5 to you. this is the only clue i can think of now. plus, S2 is out there, if partner held it, he would have AJ542, or QJ542. i probably do spade return, not much with confidence, just guess. with the actual hand, declear did all the correct play as far as i can see. shan
  19. are u sure of opps playing 2c stayman ? this auction is more like KERI 2C, relay to 2d and jump 3s to show 5d+4s game forcing. shan
  20. hi roland, i don't have issue with 1c opening, your method is sound. i am more curious about 1d opening here. (sorry, this is not relative to the original post.) shan
  21. Well fine, then he will surely bid 4♣ on this auction: 1♦ - 1♠ 2N - 3♣ 1) 3♦ 2) 3N 3) 4♣ 1) Wolff. 2) Doubleton spade. 3) Balanced slam invite with club support. Roland hi roland, futher question pls. 1♦ - 1♠ 2N - 3♣ 3♦ 3N if i define 3N here as general either C or D slam interst. ... 3D 3N 4C 4C shows 44minor, and responder either bid 4D or cuebid with C fit. ... 3D 3N 4D responder can cue or 4NT signoff. would it improve the method ? (only for 1D opening, doesn't apply for 1C) thank you in advance. SHAN
  22. hi steve, i agree all of what you say, except the most chance. with the followin layout, SJ works better than S3 south hand: S: KQ9X H: .... D: 8xxx C: ... SJ would cause declear commnication problem, declear won't be able to setup 3 spade tricks anymore. however return S3, declear can simply drive out SA, and eventually use D8 to cash the last spade.. i have to admit, the chance of above layout is quite low. partnering with average player, i would probably return S3 then. SHAN
  23. Roland, i am still not convinced by what you said, would you please tell me one hand that SJ failded and S3 succceed. the hand you showed, SJ & S3 seems both work. the only drawback of SJ is that east may duck it while holding Kxxx. shan
  24. thanks for all the comments regarding to 4h, and 4c is certainly better. and congrats to people passed on the table, that would avoid a disaster later on. [hv=d=w&v=n&n=s9xhakxxdqxxxcqxx&w=sakjxhjxxxdakjxxc&e=sqtxxxxhxdxcxxxxx&s=sxhqtxxdt9xcakjtx]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv] 1D 1H 2S 4H; 4S P P 5H; 6S P P X; XX --- 6s made by CA lead. cross ruff with 10 spade tricks plus 2 D tricks. this hand probably doesn't prove any judgement call here, however it's quite experience for me. (this is first board of the 8 board match sadlly) SHAN
