  1. I don't see how you can be so certain that the first hand belongs to opps?
  2. I would have opened 1C with North's hand. I know, I know, many prefer 1S....
  3. Oops. I voted for "mostly responder" before I saw "responder".
  4. Completely agree. This is called consistency. If 3C were acceptable, 4D was asking for trouble.
  5. I would ignore the S suit and transfer to 4H, unless I really need to gamble on slam and have agreement on various bidding process.
  6. There is nothing unethical if misdefense can give you more tricks. After all, every player is trying to reduce his own mistakes while takes the advantage of opponent's mistakes. That is how one wins.
  7. Q1. pass, though I might consider 3H. Q2. dbl or 3N. I prefer 3N, because I would not be happy if pd bids 4H over my dbl with 4Hs or even 5 (as the real holding).
  8. With the actuall hand, you make 9 tricks if South had got one more D (unless DAxx(x) vs. x) and one less S. D support is indeed an important factor.
  9. No, I don't agree with the 2S bid. Depending on the agreement, South could bid 2NT or 3D (or even dbl).
  10. I have the same question, too. Either opening 2NT or 1D and then 2NT is OK with me. I prefer 2NT though.
  11. For hand !), the bidding would go like 1C - 1D 1N - 2S 3S - 4C 4D - 4H/4N ...... With hand (:), 1C - 1D 1N - 2S 3S - 4C 4H - 4S
  12. A dead minimum hand, with half stopper (only) AND not good support for pd's suit, I would never freely bid 1NT, which I think is completely out of the question. I voted for "highly aggressive"
  13. For the hand in question, I think both are a little optimistic. Responder needs 6th S or 1 or 2 more hcp or better shape to go to game.
  14. I realized that, as a matter of fact. I was thinking to correct it but was too lazy. Thank you, Frances
  15. I would take #1 and #2 as passable (thus, not forcing) As for #3, I would bid 2C (wtp?).
  16. In my opinion, it is included in the hands Ben has studied. For the subset of 5-3 (opener has 5) major fit, 1M opener might be better. Good job, Ben!!
  17. Is the gun still pointing at me? If so, what does the gun holder want me to bid? If not, I refuse to play this hand.
  18. I would do the same. To ask the question after "forcing" me to pass 2C is not fair.
  19. Completely agree. The bidding, imho, should go something like this 1D - 1H 1S - 2C 2D - 2H 3C/D - 3S/N 3N
  20. I pefer 3D to 4C. 3D shows decent 6-card suit. If pd had 1-5-2-5, ...
  21. I agree with Mike and Ken. And I agree the auctions so far and would bid 4C. BTW, 3D rebid is complete out of the line.
