In that situation, I'd ask the sub. If he says "No", I say "Sorry" to disconnected and partner. They alternative is to say "Sorry" directly. OTOH, I think you should sub ONLY by partner's (or own) request. If this causes hands not played, then A+/A-. You don't have this problem then, sub is to stay. Conversely, if you sub my p without asking me, I'll request you to put my p back.

John: I kept track of it a while ago, lost touch in the RCs (still RC4, not final)? Bridge hand tool is implemented over a mod to create custom BBcodes, modified by me to allow form input. I understand the IPB 2.0 versions have a not-so-powerful version of custom codes, as compared with the provided by the mod. I'll take a look. Also installed italian language pack from IBForum Italia

How to handle this hand
Gerardo replied to BurnKryten's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
1♦ then ♥, repeated if possible. Longest suit first. You risk to be corrected to ♥ on 5-2 or worse, when ♦ game or slam is there, if you open 1♥. -
Suit symbols are Unicode symbols. Not sure, but chances are fonts included in Win95 don't include Unicode symbols. See Alan Wood’s Unicode Resources, particularly the Fonts section.

General, generated at server. Not related with your browser or BBO software. Corrupted index, needs to be rebuilt.

I'd prefer to see a way to link a match with a previous one, inheriting all characteristics but the players (to be set up). That allows what you propose (you have to set up players twice, though) plus multi-session, multi-players matches.

Players can see only the last trick that way

No private chat log, but people can provide their own. Put a SMTP server on BBO server, use SMTP to send the logs DIRECTLY from the BBO client, from the chat buffer (maybe on a non standard port). Easily mockable, you can add A hash, a Richard suggested an authentication key (PGP, GPG, X.509, other) [requires some infrastructure] other stronger measures, o a mix of them to make it harder. Cons: Personal unrelated conversations could be included on this.

When your board is adjusted you get a couple of popup messages. When you are kibitzing you just get a line in the chat window.

ACBL -- Limited Number of psyches/tournament?
Gerardo replied to epeeist's topic in BBO Tournaments Discussion
Why? Psyching is not illegal, having concealed agreements is. Then, alert his bids as "s/he is known to psych in these circumstances" AND treat your partner bids as face value (at least, till the bidder exposes the presumed psych by self). What's the problem then? -
Red dots are an indication of a ping (or similar) going wrong, they are a remnant of an permanent tristate indicator (green, yellow or red) Who remembers those? (it was annoying) Maybe the yellow state should be back (maybe not), and/or the parameters tweaked.

jtfanclub's software requests for tourneys....
Gerardo replied to jtfanclub's topic in BBO Tournament Directors Forum
People get "Director xxxxx has been notified" or something to that effect, when they make a call. -
jtfanclub's software requests for tourneys....
Gerardo replied to jtfanclub's topic in BBO Tournament Directors Forum
Good idea That should be solved changing the meaning from minutes per board to minutes per round, IMO. I think they were exercising their right to try to finish the tourney with his/her p. They should get A- if that causes them to don't finish boards, though. -
Chatting to a player in a tourney
Gerardo replied to Deanrover's topic in Suggestions for the Software
All the queuing part of it is already there, in BBOMail system. Maybe pickup those messages when a round is finished? -
I'm not opposed to make people miss tournaments if they are playing elsewhere at the start time. It may generate some grumbling, but would pass a clear message: " It is YOUR duty to be free at tourney start". After the grumbling, there would be no problem.

One minor note: We are NOT in ACBL land ;)

Adjustment of a board that was not played
Gerardo replied to mink's topic in BBO Tournament Directors Forum
Karl: Not at all, your request was fine. However I would give 2 or 3 mins before the call. Jan: Currently A+,A=,A- in BBO are fixed to 60%,50%,40%, regardless of your session average. As I read the Laws, A+ is max(60, your avg), A- is min(40, your avg), but A= is fixed at 50%, which seems counterintuitive to me. -
Adjustment of a board that was not played
Gerardo replied to mink's topic in BBO Tournament Directors Forum
I agree is up to the player to decide IF (and if so, when) get a sub. (if this results on boards not finished or even not played, player get A-, opps get A+). Delay is NOT player's fault, but he is responsible for it, as he can choose an alternative (getting a sub). Also, it is well between his rights to DON'T get a sub, and get adjusted results. However, the director needs to be informed ASAP when any player has severe tempo problems, connection based or otherwise, to know if that board requires an adjustment. Calling director afterwards is not nearly as good. Without info, an assumption both were partially at fault doesn't seem unreasonable to me. -
Just like to say I think this is an example of what a thread about a contested ruling would be (at least so far :)). Good job for all involved, please keep the good work!
-
In the first round you were NS, and in the other EW. As you sit always in the same seat in a given direction, if you switch directions with the opps, they would "switch" seats on your view.
-
Hands not played are assigned Ave- for BOTH pairs, unless the result is adjusted. You need to call the director(s) ASAP, when any player has tempo issues, connection based or otherwise.

News Cedega (new name of WineX) from TransGaming WORKS!! Go to download, only chance for non suscribers is CVS, go there, download via CVS, configure, make, make install, etc ;-) It has a few glitches (nost notably the toolbar at the top, constantly redrawed, plain Wine had it too, fixed there), but it is usable. HINT: Get a Symbol.ttf from somewhere

I think West is always the leftmost place in the bidding box. You can also click on black "Tables" button, and look up the table you are in.

An alternative to VMWare (for the time being) could be the QEMU CPU Emulator It is slower than VMWare, and a CPU hogger (read the docs about Win 9x not realeasing the CPU when idle), and it is not really usable in my PII/300, but a newer/faster PC should be able to do it.

Adjust after all tables finished?
Gerardo replied to Brandal's topic in BBO Tournament Directors Forum
Yes, but only while tourney is still listed. Same way as for running tourneys. Not for manipulation of BBO tourney data, but take a look at IBD for tools for tourney organization, but that's not BBO proper.
