in a payed tournament when you press "show only members who will pay thier own fee" you also see yourself even if you arent willing to pay for yourself.

I think you ment to change the stars everywhere but in a playing room the stars are still old style. I cant comment about the new look yet.
-
Im not in love with 3♣ but i think 3♠ and double were worse bids.
-
I dont know the answer (i tend to lead small) but i think there are factors that matter. First is entry to your hand, if you think you got an entry like having something good in a short suit then leading high is more likely to be better. Second is whather its a major or minor suit, after 1NT-3NT its more likely to find the opponenets 2=2 in a major then in a minor, so a major high is more likely to work then a minor high.

You guys got to be kidding me, i think 85% of the 2/1 players i know dont play 1NT as forcing but as what they call semi forcing. (ever heard of WJ2000/2005 ? ) 1NT is 6-11 so opener with 12-13 balance hand can pass. offcourse he can find a very non balance hand on the other side that would play much better in a suit contract but it could happend with sayc too. about the 3 card limit, many of them dont bid 1NT with that. In fact my prefered system is to play this kind of 1NT response with 14-16 1NT opening so opener is suppose to pass bal hand below 17 hcp.
-
I dont understand this, why does a beginner feel better about bidding 1NT with unbalanced hand then not being able to play 1NT. My expirence is the begginer doesnt think about where he can play, he think about his awn hand and what is the right bid to make. Also its not nececarry to play forcing 1NT with 2/1.
-
As you might figured out of my recent posts on the subject i share the same problem. I think if i had started it again i would have teach them 2/1 GF. I dont think playing with picked up on BBO they will find understanding about what forcing on BBO. I didnt understand what you said about fred's 2/1 isnt 1S-2H-3H a good bid with strong hand when playing 2/1 ?
-
After the opponenets have bid ♦ to the 5 level you can count or alteast hope for a shortness diamond in partner's hand and bid the slam.
-
Which one? Your points about not leading the Q is good, but its far from obvious to declarer to find the duck when needed and sometimes even the duck wont help because he wont have enough tricks for the 3NT. I think if if the K is marked with LHO leading the Q will win more then leading small' yet i agree it got less to win then i initially thought and i wont lead it unless im sure the K is there.
-
If 3NT show stop i lead the Q♠ if it deny stoper Ill lead a small ♠.
-
wouldnt it be a shame if partner give you something like X J10XX KJXX QXXX and you will go down in 4H while 7C is cold ?
-
Double is good for me, if partner bid 4H then id bid 5C, if partner bid 5D i want to give him the choice, i think the choice bid is 4s(what is 4NT ?) so that is my bid now.
-
its sad how no document i can found on sayc discuss anything that isnt easy. 1S-2H-3H is GF in sayc, but a strong player tell me we better assume that any hand with heart support is GF. Im not sure if this is true. I thought with minimum i should delay my support like in 1S-2H-2S-something-3H but he think this always show doublton only in the suit. what do you think ?

I think you need to watch your movie again, there was no sqeese, what happend is richard played the A of spade instead of a small one to jill. (am not saying it was a mistake) sorry this was writen after 27 hours with no sleep

rebid by opener after RHO overcalled
Flame replied to Flame's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Let me simplify things a bit. We are not playing walsh nor up the line, we play something in the middle which i consider standard. I'm pretty sure that at auction 1 biddign spade show unbalnced hand like 4-5 while doubling show balance. I'm also pretty sure that at auction 2 double show 4 hearts. What im not sure is whater with a balnced 12 hcp you would bid anything but pass. and if not on balanced 12 then does balance 14 is enough. What i think is this 1♣ P 1♦ 1♠ Double cant be 12 balanced, but not sure if it can be nice 13/14 balanced. (seems like 14 balanced is fine) About the other sequence 1♣ P 1♦ 1♥ Here i think double can be even with balanced 12. Am i right ? I post this on beginer's forum because i believe this is basic bridge and also because i want simple answers. -

That comment is beside the point. No one wants to disallow chat; the problem arises when that chat becomes abusive (stalking). Roland This isnt what i understood, i thought kia want to prevent the first part, the part when this charmer close the room to kibitzer and charm the lady, telling her she is the only one for him etc. At this part the lady we talk about want to be there and want the chat, there is no stalking here. If this is ok but the only thing not ok is the second part when he stalk her then i dont think anything need to be change because if she contact any yellow it will be taken care of. I think kia ment to prevent the first part so that the second part wont even come up, and this first part was a chat between adults and as i said and i think you agree, we dont want to close chats.
-
To the contrary... try to stop it on the BBO.. if it happens somewhere else, so be it, but on BBO we want a polite and safe community. Adults have a responsibility and right to control thier life, you cant control it for them, if a woman want to make a mistake she has the right to do that. I agree that if there is something BBO could do to help children then it should be done. Do you want to forbiden ppl to give thier phone number online ? maybe forbiden "hi" with a love signal attached to it ? this has no end. BBO is an online bridge club and online bridge comunity, for some this might be the comunity they belong to more then any other comunity, and in a comunity you cant and dont want to close relationships. We could close all chats, why do people have to talk ? we came to play not to talk. (when my wife plays online i wish chats were unallowed making her focus for a change). If someone is offending someone else then BBO deal with it, but to prevent two adults from having a chat just because maybe one of them will regrat it later seems very wrong.
-
Some ppl have to learn it the hard way, if this wont happend on BBO it will happend at some other place, there is no point in trying to stop it.

Can anone review Washington Standard by Stever Robinson ? If possible compare between this book and other 2/1 books. Thanks

imo normal 3♦ shows a 3 card support. Its possible to bid with only 2 if there are some good other factors, but long in thier suit doesnt seems like a good idea to me.
-
Its important when reading this book to know that many of the answer's arent clear cut and other experts will have different answers. Also there is a the time its was writen problem, some bidding styles have changed since 1990.
-
I bid 4♦ and pass 4♥. Partner's 3♦ bid wouldnt be 2 cards in diamond and long H, so he is probebly 3 cards diamonds, we have a 10 card fit and i have a singlton in thier suit, 4♦ rate to give us a better result then 3H. If they go to 4H i will pass, since i feel i did my job of showing my offense value with 4D and partner his in good position to judge now.
-
I can bid 3D, and partner can bid 3H. Now I can bid 3S and partner can raise to 4H with xx, Jx, KQx, KQxxxx or bid 3N with Qx, Jx, Kxx, KJxxxx. I like the way you bid, but how can partner know what you expect from him? if i understand correctly you show a stopper in ♦ and a half stoper in ♠, or something like that, but you actually have AJX in ♠, partner might make the wrong decision going to 4♥ when the ♠ suit is fine and 3NT is fine. suppose partner has XX XX AXX KQJXXX or xxx xx KQx KQJXXX I think with this hand he will bid 3H over 3D and 4H over 3S, yet 3NT is a better contract then 4H.
