responding with strong 2 suiited (5-5) hand
PrecisionL replied to Shugart23's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
Terence Reese in Precision Bidding & Precision Play recommended this approach (pg. 147): 1♣ - 1♥ - 1♠(Alpha Asking Bid for Support) - 3♣ (Ignoring Alpha with 0-1♠ and showing 5-5 & 3 or more Controls) -

Another approach is to use 3 level responses to 1♣ as a 5-5 hand (like Fantunes): 3♣ = 5-5 clubs + unknown [3♦ asking: Bid the 2nd suit and 3NT = Diamonds] 3♦ = 5-5 Majors 3♥ = 5-5 Hearts + Diamonds 3♠ = 5-5 Spades + Diamonds HINT: 1♣ opener's first rebid should be neutral without support or his own good suit [maybe NT]. It is too early to ask for Controls. Fit first, then strength. -
responding with strong 2 suiited (5-5) hand

I used an old idea from The Hemrick Club / Canary Club System (1966): 1♣ - 1NT = 5-5 exactly (any two suits) - 2♣ Asking (the usual follow-on) [Put NT into 2♣ or 2♦ responses] 2♦ = 5-5 Majors 2♥ = 5-5 ♠ + unknown minor [2NT asks for the minor] 2♠ = 5-5 ♥ + unknown minor [2NT asks for the minor] 2NT = 5-5 Minors Now suit bid by the 1♣ opener is SAB-3 (if new suit) or Beta (for controls) or RELAY for shortness [you decide]<div><br></div><div> </div> -
David, thanks for the reply. Canary Club is one of my favorite systems, I have a copy of the original publication in the ACBL bulletin. There is a version on the Internet. http://www.cjkinn.ne...asny/System.htm I have never seen a reference to Ultra but I do have paper and electronic versions of Ultimate Club. Edited 8/23/15: C3 (Copious Canape Club) shows semi-solid and solid suits at the 3-level in response to an opening bid of 1♣ (Strong & Artificial). 2NT and higher = 1-under Transfers. Example: 1♣ - 2NT (♣s) - 3♣ (Beta) - 3♦ = Semi-solid ♣Suit and No outside Controls 3♥ = Semi-solid ♣Suit and K outside Control 3♠ = Semi-solid ♣s and A outside Control 3NT = Solid Suit♣ and No outside controls (AKQxxx) 4♣ = Solid Suit♣ and K outside Control 4♦ = Solid Suit♣ and A outside Control ...

What is your source? Thanks for clearing this mystery up as bridge guys refer to Ultra without any details. Ultra Club Relay is a system authored by yours truly and KeyLime that is on www.bridgewithdan.com (link below in my profile notes) Our upgrade, C3, not published yet, handles semi-solid and solid suits starting with a 2NT response to 1♣ (Artificial and forcing, 16+ hcp)

Difficult to suggest other approaches without more information. I would want to know what kind of jump shifts you are playing? Weak, Strong, or Invitational? Invitational or forcing jump shifts over 1♣ might take some hands out of the 2-level transfer of 2♦ or 2♥.

Hello Convention
PrecisionL replied to Shugart23's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Multi Landy is now legal in ACBL effective May 1. http://web2.acbl.org...ntion-Chart.pdf7. DEFENSE TO: a) conventional calls (except see #10 RESPONSES and REBIDSabove and #7 under DISALLOWED below), b) natural no trump opening bids and overcalls, except that direct calls, other than the following, must have at least one known suit. - Double - Two Clubs - Two Diamonds showing a one suited hand in hearts or spades, c) opening bids of two clubs or higher. -
Precision: Would anyone open tis hand?
PrecisionL replied to tommylee's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
♠KQT98 ♥Q9532 ♦K ♣74 I would NOT open this hand and would come in later. Partner will be disappointed if I open this hand even playing LOBs. -
Big Bang System now available
PrecisionL replied to DJNeill's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
I have their book (in Italian), 2010. Also see: http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/topic/64508-big-bang-the-bocchi-madala-system/page__p__774465__hl__%2B+%2Bbang__fromsearch__1#entry774465 -
Being a System Nut, I have purchased all of Dan's offerings except for Polish Club.

Precision After 1c/1d/1h what bid is double negative
PrecisionL replied to tommylee's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
Interesting .... I am use to playing canape, thus a 2♣ or 2♦ bid after 1NT (by responder) is natural with 4 of the M and 5+ of the minor. (I hate the forcing 1NT convention.) -
Precision After 1c/1d/1h what bid is double negative
PrecisionL replied to tommylee's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
SteveMoe, that is a good construct and similar to what I have played for years. Reference: Berkowitz-Johnson notes: http://www.reocities.com/oldyank1/johnson-berkowitz-club-system.html However, the Kaplan Inversion we discarded after playing a hand in NT when responder had 6♠. For IMP contests, we used 1♠ as the double negative, 0-4 hcp without an ace: 1♣ - 1♦ - 1♥ - 1♠ -
I like it since it resembles two systems that I regularly play: 1♣ as Precision, 16+ unbalanced, 17+ balanced 1♦/1♥/1♠ = 6-cards or two suited canape (4-cd suit first) 1NT = 11-14 nV or 14-16 V 2♣ & 2♦ = 6-cds or 5-4 in the minors, no 4-cd Major 2♥/2♠ = 10-14 with good 5-cd suit, usually 5332 occasionally 5422 2NT = 5-5 minors and 8-14 depending on vulnerability Edited 3/22/15: YES, your 1♦ Opening Bid is a big leak - too many distributions.

Deleted because of uncivil response. I have other ideas for positive responses to 2♣ that have not been mentioned in this forum, but will not post them here.

I frequently get good MP Pair results when the opponents play Mini-Roman. I usually pass and lead trumps. :<) In a Precision context, the 2♦ opening bid short in ♦ fills a hole in the system. Expand the bid to cover 3=4=1=5 and 4=3=1=5 hands. This solves the 5♣ & 4M hand type which some still open 2♣. Another approach (if you can stand the ambigous 1 Diamond Opening) is to make 2♦ Opening: 6♦ or 5♦ + 4♣. I use this approach in two Precision Style Partnerships with a 1♦ opening bid promising at least one 4-cd major and diamonds may be as short as zero.

2/1 bidding question
PrecisionL replied to jerdonald's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
If you are playing 2/1 Game Forcing, then you MUST respond 1NT and then show the hearts = weak hand with 6 hearts. Very few pairs play that responder is allowed to bid 2♥ and then 3♥ to show a weak hand (usually requires a better suit). -
I agree, a 4 hcp range is too wide unless you play Keri over 1NT. Vulnerable I would play 13-15 or 14-16 to avoid those -200 bottoms.
-
This is my preference also. Schenken in his Big Club System recommended that an opening bid of 3♣ contain 6-7 playing tricks. A solid 6-card suit or 7-cards with an outside winner. Opening 2♣ with such a hand was an underbid. Thus, a 2NT opening fits in with such an approach. (Not ACBL GCC legal though.)

Does anyone have a link to Bridge2Symmetric
PrecisionL replied to Cthulhu D's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
Just checked my old computer and find a working copy of Bridge2symmetric. :<) I have used HCS System Notebook for several of my systems, since it prints hand records for specific sequences. -
1♥, partner won't pass with only an Ace, or K + Q.

Obvious Shift

Yes, exact.y how I play OS in several partnerships. My favorite defensive convention. -
14+ - 17 I have seen to show a possible upgrade.

Fantunes light (interesting new variation)...
PrecisionL replied to foobar's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
I agree, have been playing 12-15 hcp 1NT opening for 4 years and I don't like it, too big of a range.
