  1. Surfing the various bridge sites today, I found the following Poll Results: www.richmondbridge.net Two Over One (G.F.) 47 % Standard American 36 % Precision Club 12 % Richmond Relay 3.7 % Washington Standard 1.5 % What is popular in your area of the world?
  2. Tough hand with competition, I would DOUBLE and bid ♥s later. With no competition: 1♣ p 3NT (AKQxxxx or longer, no outside A or K) p 4♦ (asking for extra length) p 4♠ (8-cards) p ? This assumes opener knows the suit, otherwise 4♣ asks for the suit.
  3. I play something similar in our strong club system. We use conditional transfers over 2 clubs & opener accepts with 2 or 3-cd support. 2NT is 0-1 cd support and maximum, 3 clubs = 0-1 cd support & minimum. 3M response = good 5+ cd suit & club support. 3 clubs is a constructive raise. Similar scheme over an opening 2 Diamond, but no transfers.
  4. Yes, report it. In a 2 session event in Houston I found an error between sessions and we dropped to 2nd for that session. It was the right thing to do. All ended well, we won anyhow with a good 2nd session. http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif
  5. I agree, then you can reverse if opening 1♦ or 1♥ without overstating you strength. However, playing a Strong Diamond System gives you many more Reversing Schemes after opening 1♣.
  6. Yes you can design a 3-level jump as an Ace-ask. Jannersten Precision had an asking bid that could be used even when the bidding did not start with 1♣. The asking bid is initiated by a jump in either suit after a game force is in effect (works best in a 1♣ auction after a positive response). Replies: Cheapest NT = No Ace and No honor in suit asked. Raise = No Ace but an honor in the asked suit (Q, K, or A). Other suit = Ace of suit and no honor in asked suit. Jump in a suit = Ace of suit and a trump honor. Jump in NT = No honor in trumps, but 2 Side Aces. Jump in Asked suit = 2 Aces and one trump honor. I don't use it anymore as we play Beta Asking Bids (Asks for Controls, A = 2 and K = 1). Beta or Jannersten's Asking Bid can also be used after 1♣ - 1♦ - 3M.
  7. I second this post, very good advice. I gave up pass asks opener to XX long ago as responder needs to start escaping NOW and it is interesting how 4th hand often has a problem when responder bids (i.e. is X penalty or takeout?).
  8. Maybe, maybe not. IMO 16 hcp hands can be upgraded to 1♣ opening or down graded to 15 and opened 1♦ K-S Style. Opening 1NT with a 11-14 hcp range (per K-S) is workable and great for matchpoint pairs.
  9. From an old spreadsheet on classic Precision (NT Opening of 13-15) 1♦ = balanced hand 10-12 of 30 %. Adjusting (roughly) for 14-16 NT, add 1/3 more for 13 hcp hands excluded = 40% for balanced hands that must open 1D. Hmmm .... this seems low. Going back to basic math / probabilities, I recalculate and get 71.5 %. I just talked (calculated) myself out of playing 14-16 NT and letting the opponents overcall 1D with 1 of either Major. :<(
  10. 1) Pass, ♥ suit too weak 2) Open 1♥, good suit and I also have ♠
  11. Bob Crosby's site is a wealth of information and creative ideas. Yes, I play the treatments mentioned and many other of his suggestions. However, in your example partner has bid (pre-emptively) so I think that 4NT here is Blackwood.
  12. Dan, In several of my Precision partnerships I have played a 12-15 hcp 1NT. This is too wide a range, so we have gone back to 11-14 and open 1♦ with 15-16.
  13. 15-17 balanced comes up 5-6% of the time (depends how you treat 5M332 hands) 13-17 balanced comes up about 12% 1C 16+ comes up 9.8% (playing 1NT openings < 16 hcp) Thus, much more often = 22% more!
  14. Results from Naples, FL Regional playing Strong Diamond with weak Major Openings 5 Sessions, won 9.5 MP and 2nd overall in B in 1 session out of 5. System did OK, no major flaws discovered in a sample of 130 hands. Scratched in every session. Analysis continuing ....
  15. Yes, I have both books (one print and one e-book) and basically agree with their analysis. Yes, I have been playing such methods several years based on my own experience and analysis (thanks to hand records). I have tried to teach a few of my partners, it is hard to get them to change. 1. No, I don't lead unsupported Aces (unless gambling NT). 2. I lead 2nd (Hxxx) and 4th (QTxx or better) unless 3-cd Major seems better.
  16. Open 1NT with a good 11-14 hcp. Open 1♣ with 15-16 hcp without 5 Controls (A=2, K=1), otherwise upgrade to 1♦ strong & artificial and a good 16 hcp or more with 5+ controls.
  17. Keylime & I will be playing a Strong Diamond system with 8-12 hcp 4cd major opening bids @ the 1-level in the Naples Regional this month. (Zar 26 pt openings) The design goal is to improve partial and game bidding at the expense of the 16+ hcp hands which have a frequency of 9.8 %. This effort is bending our minds.
  18. Has anyone tried 4-cd majors with a Strong Diamond System?
  19. Thanks for your comments. Previously, we used 1NT for 5-4 or better in the majors only. Later, we took the 5-5 out of other auctions (since they are low frequency) and added them to the 1NT response. We are quite happy with the current scheme. Interference has not caused us many bad boards. The 1♥ and 1♠ responses are multi. All three of these responses are easily unpacked with relay bidding.
  20. Thanks for clarifying your post, we do want to keep the forums constructive and language is important as is experience. I once studied under a professor who asked that we examine how the new ideas we were presented in class could work rather than what was wrong with them ....
  21. So, I take it that you haven't tried this approach and it is just your opinion? Every part of a system affects every other part, so there is no useless information ..... I have 3 years experience playing this approach in two partnerships and find it works just fine with the rest of the system. The rest of the system is transfer positives into 4-card majors and Rodwell's 2♦ response for 8-10 balanced hands. One or both minors (but not 5-5) are shown with a 2♣ response.
  22. Yes, we have experimented with several schemes for responder showing 5-5 hands with a positive response. We settled on the following: 1♣ - 1NT = Game Force and 5-5 any two suits, or 5-4 or 6-4 in the majors. 2♣ = asking 2♦ = longer hearts, either 5-4 or 6-4, but not 5-5 2♥ = longer spades, either 5-4 or 6-4, but not 5-5 2♠ = 5♥ + 5♣/5♦ 2NT = 5♠+ 5♣/5♦ 3♣ = 5-5 in the minors 3♦ = 5-5 in the majors Now a suit bid by Opener sets trumps and is Beta for Controls.
  23. Open 1♠, only 3 controls and 6 losers, rebid 2♠, you need partner to have a limit raise on singleton ♣ and two cover cards for game.
