  1. Congrats to Adam and Josh! Von Zedtwitz LM Pairs: 7 Adam Meyerson, San Jose CA; Josh Sher, Coral Gables FL
  2. The First 50 Years of the World Bridge Federation, 1958-2008, An Anecdotal History Compiled by Its Presidents. ISBN 978-0-9526131-6-9 Yes, I have a copy - bought it this past January with help from ecats. I think it was their last two copies. Very interesting book.
  3. I have had NO problems with canape bidding as long as you pre-alert them in ACBLand.
  4. I have been playing a forcing club system with a 11-14 NT and no weak 2-bids. We open the weak 2-bids with a 1-bid or 3-bid or pass. Opening 2 bids are 10-14 hcp with 5M or 6 minor. This has worked very well in MP Pairs or IMPs. (Somewhat similar to Greco-Hampson). However, some disagree with not playing weak 2-bids, Gittleman has a post somewhere in the forums.
  5. In ACBLand, these are ALL legal (since they resemble a Precision 2♣ opener). But the bid can only have one strength range and if weak can not be more than 7 hcp range.
  6. Ultra Club Relay / Copious Canape Club (C3) Same sequence as #4, the Q♦ can not be found and since ♦ are only 4-cards, the fit is less important. 1♣ 16+ - 1♥ = 4+ ♠ or 4♠ & 5♣/♦ 1♠ RELAY - 2♥ = 5♠ & 4♣/♦ 2 ♠ RELAY - 3♦ = 5=1=x=x 3♠ BETA - 4♠ = 5 controls (missing 1 red K) 5♦ CAB - 6♥ = AK♦ (missing K♥) 6♠ May need flat distribution
  7. Ultra Club Relay / Copious Canape Club 1♣ 16+ - 1♥ = 4+ ♠ or 4♠ & 5♣/♦ 1♠ RELAY - 2♥ = 5♠ & 4♣/♦ 2 ♠ RELAY - 3♦ = 5=1=x=x 3♠ BETA - 4♠ = 5 controls (missing 1 red K) 5♦ CAB - 6♥ = AK♦ (missing K♥) 6♠ May need flat distribution
  8. Ultra Club Relay / Copious Canape Club (C3) 1♣ 16+ - 1♥ = 4+♠ or balanced 11+ 1♠ RELAY - 2♣ = 4♠ & 5♣/♦ 2♥ SAB - 3♠ = 3+♥ & 4 Controls (AKK exactly) 4♦ CAB - 5♥ = AK♦ 6♥ or 6NT? I choose 6♥ as 6NT might need the J♠

  11. When we designed Ultra Club Relay and its upgrade Copious Canape Club (C3) we decided to avoid an artificial termination bid and just go with (1) distribution relays, (2) Beta confirming fit, and (3) TURBO with Denial Cue Bidding. I will be following the posts very carefully to learn what seems best in the majority of cases.
  12. Well, 2NT jump Overcalls can be a 2-suited Overcall also with only one anchor suit.
  13. If opponents Overcalls, double is for penalty since opener's hand is known (6♣ & no 4-cd major).
  14. [quote name='TylerE' timestamp Modern style (ala Precision Today) seems to be shifting towards 2♣ always being a six-bagger. I think this is generally a good move. Good responses can go a long way, and I'm not at all sure the classical natural responses are best. A key point is wether the 2♦ bid actually promises values (at least inv, say), or could it just be a scramble. I think if 2♣ could be 5, 2♦ has to be much more wideranging, but promising 6 it should always be values, as a minimum misfitting hand can just pass - even a 6-0 isn't that bad. Yes, Several of my partnerships play 2♣ promises 6-cards without a 4-cd major. We play conditional transfer responses over this opening and find this works really well (opener refuses the transfer with 0-1 cards). With a 4-cd major and ♣, we open 1♦.
  15. Gatlinburg Regional is over and we had very few Comfy Canape overcalls of the opponent's 1NT opening. Thus, no analysis of the pros and cons of this convention. Total masterpoints: 59819.09 earned by 3635 players. Total attendance: 9261 tables.
  16. Putting it on my calendar, Saturday, May 11.
  17. Thanks, Mike for your comments. We have changed 2♦ overcall to show 5♠ + 4♥ or 5-5. 2♣ overcall to show majors 5-4 or better is better for finding the major fits for pair games, however the canape aspect fits in with the rest of our system philosophy: C3: Copious Canapé Club (Ultra Relay Club Revised)
  18. Do you mean the Simplified Club by Larry Weiss? http://www.nytimes.c...ed=print&src=pm Canape overcalls: http://www.bridgebas...st-1nt-opening/
  19. Since Multi-Landy or Woolsey are Mid-Chart Conventions (ACBL) over the opponent's Strong 1NT Opening (15-17 hcp) we are considering canape overcalls. I would appreciate any comments on your experience playing such defenses. CoCa overcalls dbl = A) 4-card spades plus a longer suit, or B) 6-card spades 2♣ = A) 4-card hearts plus a longer suit, or B) 6-card hearts 2♦ = 4-4 majors 2♥ = 5-card plus minor suit 2♠ = 5-card plus minor suit The canapé structure of the dbl/2♣ CoCa bids (with a rebid in another suit denoting a longer suit) is what lends the convention its name. 20. As I understand 1NT forcing, it can NOT be game forcing for the General Convention Chart. Edited: can NOT GUARANTEE (with thanks to Aquahombre)
  21. We play Herbert Negative over take-out doubles, so responder would rebid 1NT with 0-4 hcp with any amount of clubs, and would show the clubs, if appropriate, on the next round. Thus 2♣ is semi-positive, but opener could pass with a minimum.
  22. 3 Controls = A + K or 3Ks. The diamonds can not be solid (3NT response initially), thus responder has an A or K outside diamonds. It could be the A♥ and then 3NT is down, or it could be the A♦ and 3NT makes, however, slam appears to be very low probability. Sometimes you just have to guess.
