  1. Sir.INDEED.and VICTOR MOLLO was perhaps the best writer of amusing Bridge stories.
  2. Sir I humbly suggest that THE BLUE TEAM CLUB 2D OPENING is available to replace the 2D, as weak in Diamonds, be strongly considered.THE bid covers almost all three suited hands holding 17 to24 HCP
  3. Sir,when playing Standard we do open the hand 1C and not 2C.,since the way we play it 2C opening has 23+HCP if NT pattern ,9+winners if its a major suiter and 10+ winners if a minor suiter. A 2D response shows 0 to7 HCP or less than 1 and half Tricks. There is NO WAITING 2D BID.Hence this hand does not qualify. We open 1C and responder will bid 4H showing a 8 carder suit headed by Ace and 2 of the3 tops .(with a weaker suit we start with 1H and go on rebidding hearts upto 4H.bidding it directly if opener shows a dislike and a moderate hand) AS the openers hand provides 5 Quick winners he bids 5NT requesting responder to bid 6H with 3 i.e. AKjJ10 and 7H with all 4 tops.Of course this way we cannot bid 7NT on the present strong hand as it is void in hearts. But if responder bids 7H and opener has x hearts.can safely bid 7NT.Opener then may have a flat hand like AKxx-x-Axxx-AKxx (when he will bid 7NT).
  4. Sir.is it a strong club system or is it a modified standard system? If the former then I shall never venture to play there as and when I go there.
  5. SIR,to me it appears to be a system similar to GOREN standard system..However in that system a 1H four carder had the possibility of having a 4 card diamond suit.a 3442 hand was then opened 1H which provided a convenient rebid of 2D if partner bid 2C.A suit was considered to be biddable if it was at least Q10xx .With the conditions mentioned by you his hand can be 3433 or4432,4423 or he might have a 5+ heart suit also. Not knowing which, it is certainly dangerous to bid 2H with just three peanuts on the given hand.A bid of 2D is not on for lack of HCP required for such a bid..This leaves us with the simple available bid of 1NT.This bid may protect your Qx holding in a NT contract. While giving this justification I am assuming that you do not play a forcing 1NT bid over a major suit opening bid.
  6. SIR,thats quite right and you have got it absolutely right. And Sir,kindly see the article available on google search titled "ROSENKRANZ THE SPIRAL SCAN" for more details.
  7. Sir,you have asked some nice questions. and here are the clarifications. After 5C If we did not possess SQ then we bid 5D.Since we have it already we would like to find out if he has the HQ and so we bid 5H.SInce he does not have it his reply is 5S.Now we want to find out DQ so we bid 5NT the next step. .Without DQ he bids 6C.With only the DQ he bids 6D and with CQ also he bids 6H which denies holding the SJ.( Which is the next important card in the Spiral.).And please excuse Sir, I am not an expert.A bid of 5S over his 5C would ask him about DQ.And a bid of 5NT over his 5C would ask him about CQ. Sir,if you wish to know more details ,then I request you to see the article "ROSENKRANZ THE SPIRAL SCAN"which is available on the Google search. '
  8. Sir we have tried and used a method .We ask no.of controls by a bid of 4C and in the given hand the response would be 5C(7 controls)We then use the SPIRAL (a bid of 5H in this hand as we have the SQ with us) to find out the specific Queen/queens.We thus would easily find out the opener has Queens of D and C..Then it is clear that 5 club tricks,3diamonds 2 hearts and 3 spades are available and 7NT is the final bid.
  9. Sir,I like the idea and it has given me the impetus to develop it further.Thanks.
  10. SIR,We do not play by "TRICKS OR HCP when a suit fit is found. The LTC is far superior and has accurately given a corect maximum contract of 5 H.We gave up long ago on the concept of TRICKS from the era of CULBERTSON,GOREN et al.The Robot has never given an indication of a heart singleton nor a six carded diamond suit headed by KING.His hand could easily have been KQ10x,xxx,KQJ,xxx which the robot again would have responded 3S .If the heart K is offside one goes down in 4S.Please note that this hand of robot has then 8 losers and the LTC again gives the correct result of 18-8-7=3.However I do not even suggest that others use this method, which please note.Kindly note that this LTC may not be 100 per cent correct and I ,humbly, do not suggest so.Gadgets fail in many cases as one knows. One has to find the and use the better one as per ones choice and experience.AS I have pointed out the Robot has grossly under valued the hand which has only Six losers. We ,by our methods ,would make a bid of 4S and on a sunny day a splinter bid of 4H. Please understand that I am not criticising the method of Quick Tricks at all.
  11. Certainly not many will bid this way when various conventions and gadgets are available ( includes natural bidding also ) Yes ,if we are doing badly the rest of the way.then " may be perhaps possibly ".But then, as you have rightly asked, who could argue with success !
  12. Sir,my opinion is that you were correct in passing the 3 Spade bid.Your hand has 7 losers and the 3S bid asks you to bid 4S with 6 losers. And NO THE HCP COUNT IS HARDLY THE CRITERION on which you bid a hand when a suit fit is found. The Robots hand has only 6 losers and a bid of 4S , if not a splinter bid 4H, was on the cards. It was your hard luck that you got a Robot as your partner.18-6-7=5 and so 5H was your sides limit. I am not a bidder who bids correctly after seeing the results hence all the justfications.
  13. Having already doubled the 2S bid ,I shall pass the 3C bid.
  14. We play 5C as a TAKE OUT in such a case.It is beyond the scope of this forum to describe our bids for a SINGLE/TWO SUITED HANDS FOR A GAME /SLAM ambition.I would HUMBLY AND IN A LIGHTER VEIN, like to point out here that the opponents might be making a 7 SPADES DOUBLED contract with not even a double dummy defence available.SO BEWARE.!
  15. Sorry but I would have doubled the 2S bid, since I consider myself to be an aggressive bidder, with all the controls and both majors.
  16. In competitive bidding,I personally feel that, the 2NT bid must be available to show a real balanced hand where the hand is not suitable for a making a negative double.
  17. The safest way is to write "PRIVATE" in your Profile under the "level" column. '
  18. I am not an expert, still I wish to express my opinion if no one minds. It is difficult to guess partners hand because of the preempt.Partner may be having a hand something like Kx-Axxxx-x-Axxxx.In that case 4S is making. With a lesser holding we can easily go down also. Its a real problem.3DX may be made also if P partner does not have the Aces.I am not so certain of 500-1100 which some panelists are expecting. If the contract goes down only one then still we are the losers if 4S is making. If opponents are unknown then my personal opinion is a bid of 3S the bid which I would have made if LHO had passed.May turn out to be a timid bid who knows.
  19. Director. 3H will be an insufficient bid as Opener himself has already bid 3H WITH THE TWO QUEENS in partners suits my bid shall be 5H
  20. The dummy player should keep a watch and ensure that the opponents as also the declarer keep the cards correctly pointed after each trick. This is a simpler solution to prevent arguments and rise in tempers as also minimise the need to call the Director.
  21. Playing Landy if one has the hand given one has to play in 3C if he wishes to.But the same logic can be applied to club suit and Stayman also. And just by the way, we open 1D and not one trump holding both majors with decent cards.Playing Super Precision we shall be playing the hand in 2H or allow opponents to play in 3C if they come in.Holding the given corrected hand we bid 2S a transfer to 3C ( at favourable or both NV vulnerability only.)I do not get why the post is labeled as problem with Landy.Suits can always get blocked. An anonymous partner held KQ82 of Spades in a contract of 3NT by his LHO.I led the Spade 4 (4th highest) .He played the Q which won the trick. At trick 2 he played the 2 of spade as he wanted to show a holding of 4 cards and curtains! I held A7543 ,the suit was blocked and the contract was easily made. This partner of mine, believe me ,has been playing Bridge for the last 60 (sixty)years ! I have since, refused his invitations.
  22. Fully agree with Tramticket. The North hand IS an EIGHT losers hand and I have said the same in my post made earlier.
  23. In my first post I did not make any comments on the 4C bid.I shall fully justify the bid .I specifically do not know how others will think about that bid.We use the losing trick count when a suit fit is guaranteed. The hand has one spade, two diamond and one club losers. There is no loser in heart suit as partner is known to have Qxx or xxxx in the heart suit. Partner has shown 8 losers However the diamond losers have to be taken care of and hence with a singleton spade card and the aces in both minors as also only two cards in clubs one must bid 4C in order to make him revalue his top honors and singleton/void in any of the minors. It would be indeed unfortunate to go down in 6H if West holds Heart Qxx and East has a void.
  24. The way we play it, 4C bid guarantees at least a 2nd round spade control and the club Ace plus an obvious interest in slam.I,personally, would certainly show a second round control in Diamonds ,since it is below game level.by a bid of 4D as perhaps opener may be worried about Diamond losers. My KQ headed club suit is also going to provide discards for any of the losers in Diamonds /Clubs..
