Hi Mirjam :) Thank you for your answers... my questions were genuine and i wanted to understand the changes, and who profited from them... My post was NOT a complaint, it was a query on why some, like you, charged so little as opposed to others who charged $1 (which again, is nothing). but 20 cents is too cheap!! :) I have the utmost respect for what you are doing, and hope you will be able to raise the money you need, (but you definitely need to charge a little more than that) B) I havent been able to play in turneys as often as i would like to lately, due to the fact that i cannot commit for too many boards... this is just temporary, and i hope to get back to it, and i will definitely help you raise funds ..... Have a great day or evening :P Aisha

 such a shame to disallow kibbitzers!! it would help to categorize them as observer/spectator, but still wouldnt solve the "cheating" which is causing such distress .... It is very enjoyable to kibb one's friends, and be kibbed in return.... this is a social site, and many are taking the fun out of it, so sad :( I know, i know, you are going to say, if we want to socialize we can go to the main bridge club and kibb there! But we want our kibb rights for turneys!!! Give them back to us!!!! :) pulleeeeeeeaaase Aisha

I have noticed many paid turneys which were free in the past... I would very much appreciate someone answering what the benefits of the paid ones are( to the TD as well as to the participants), as opposed to the free ones? How does the TD decide on how much it will cost to enter?( some cost 20cents, some 50, others $1) How successful are they? I check to see how many tables are in play during the paid turneys, and notice the lack of participation in some which used to be very popular... I am sure there is a very valid reason for paying to play in a tournament on BBO.... so please someone, enlighten me  Curious Aisha :)

This is NOT a normal SAYC bid :D 1NT would be a normal SAYC bid in this hand (remember, I am not an expert) :D Thats all you wanted to know right? Because if it's more complicated, like a director ruling or something of the sort, then I can't answer you B) Aisha

Hi Ulrich; I am answering as an intermediate player (you can take it or leave it :D A 3 diamond rebid by you, is a non-forcing limit bid showing 5+ diamonds and 15-17pts... as your partner( with that hand) I would never bid 5 after a limit bid...... I think you just got unlucky with clubs :D I would be very interested to hear comments on how to get to the right contract of 5♦ Aisha
-
Someone mentioned least favorite system (i guess to add more opinions to this thread), and SAYC was mentioned.... why is that?? You can add all the gadgets you want and still play this system..... I play Acol and SAYC, and i find that many do not like ACOL either.... so maybe now you can all tell us your favorite system and why? Not so Evil Aisha (today) <_<

I read the very "short" post by Ben about udca and standard carding.. ;) Very nicely done, except that i tried it in a turney with my partner tonite, and got it all wrong <_< o/e still very confusing, i only thought it was used in discards, and not when following suit.... Nonetheless, its very clear, except when you get into peter, echo, revolving lavinthal (will have to read it over again) THanks Ben aisha

my least favorite convention is Gerber, never comes up, and when it does, cant even tell what it is! Evil Aisha <_<

If you are in a "dessert island" make sure you have a very strong chocolate flavoured SPF and pass time reading instructions on how to apply it........ ;) If you are on a deserted island, then good luck to you, and bon voyage! I would suggest joining the reality show "survivor" you might make a million dollars while reading up on bridge :P My favorite bridge book would be BRIDGE WITH BRUNNER (ACOL BIDDING FOR IMPROVERS) then maybe could get slothy to respect me for my bidding <_< why? because i still cant get acol and this would be an opportunity to get a good sun tan, and learn this system to a tee B) I would bring along 2 extra copies (making it 3) ( 3 books is what you asked for) to share with all those of you who got bored with playboy and penthouse.... Now honestly, how many of you would take a bridge book to a "desert"island? and why? (no matter how excellent the literature, litruture, grrrrrrrrr) Wish you all sweet deserts :) Evil Aisha

I did not in anyway want to belittle the problem which was presented in this thread, "stop complaining people" was out of line, I admit  Many of these commentators seem to be good friends and enjoy a common sense of humour, and some inside jokes. Many still do a wonderful job whilst joking.. Cascade, thank you for the info on what +++ means.... Language is a barrier for some, hence the comments which puzzle some viewers. It is a good thread, and worth the discussion and the ideas presented, I apologize if i have offended anyone..... Regards, Aisha

What does +++ stand for? (i have seen it in a few profiles) How is a normal vugraph spectator supposed to know what those plusses stand for? A little humour here and there does no harm whatsoever IMHO.......I have nothiced (as an avid vugraph kibber) that a lot of the commentators are coke addicts  I just hope they are betting on the classic one :o I would personally bet on something a bit more substantial(like cash), but to each is own :P I have seen a lot of illuminating comments, and a few not so inspiring... I have abstained from asking commentators any questions because they are busy, and i respect that. Still, very much appreciate and enjoy the experience :( STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT EVERYTHING PEOPLE!!!!!!!!! Aisha

Hi guggie; No director would ever refuse a sub willingly.... i can only think that there were probably a few reasons why you were not asked to sub: 1) no disconnected players (usually main reason) 2) some players insist on subs who speak their language and/or play their system, so it could be that your profile wasn't compatible. 3) if there is an abundance of subs, sometimes your turn just doesn't come up. I have signed up as sub many times, without getting called.... If TD didnt answer your private message, he may be busy adjusting scores, and answering loads of other private calls... Subs are always the most precious in any tourney and very much in demand, so trust me guggie :P (maybe thats asking too much hee hee) no director will purposely not add a sub. Definitely it was nothing personal.... Try again sometime..... :D Aisha

What makes a good bridge player
aisha759 replied to sceptic's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
All of the above makes a person a good bridge player, so I won't repeat myself. You wanted to know what makes a bad bridge player..... well obviously the opposite of all of the above and some more :P One thing i feel deeply about, are the hand hogs, who think they are such experts they wont allow their partners to play for fear of their poor abilities.... to me thats a very very bad bridge player... Aisha -
Hey marky :D I think you need that break.... you got burnt out hosting, now you can concentrate on playing more often, and meeting people in different circumstances..... Enjoy the time off :P Aisha

New Club for Juniors Announcement!
aisha759 replied to bglover's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Marc hi :) Who is Helen?Does she really exist, and if not, what is helenonline?I am really curious....... im not a junior, im not a senior (yet) phewwwww.... Gl with Jrflight, great idea, I wish you started that centuries ago, i may have qualified  -
So Mike, as your opponent, can I count on you to lead small from A to my singleton King? ( in a suit contract of course :) ) Jokes put aside, so true, about not leading agressively by weaker players...moi!!! Learning though... Aisha
-
Correction!! Excuse me Slothy dear :o that was Ms. Notrump for your information, that' why it is so diverse and "changeant" :) Lovingly, Aisha aka Ms. Ruffing Finesse ;) (laughing at my own joke, pathetic!!)

To each his own.... This was supposed to be a thread about why people change their skill levels back and forth, and that often....it went off track again about real names and flags... Only stars are required to do so, and that was discussed on another thread.. A warning to whoever is going to play with me today, it's one of "those" really terrible days, so if you see "intermediate" dont believe it! ;) Incognito :) (aisha) (UN flag)
-
Hi Bambi; It seems to me you got all your answers here B) All of them are reasons why players change skill levels back and forth. I am intermediate, but change to "novice" when I am extremely angry at myself and think about quitting <_< I do have a question for Csdenmark though.... why are name and country more important for you than skill level? I suppose the flag might be of importance, as you may prefer to play with someone from the same country as yours, but name? You are free to choose who you want to play with, please dont get me wrong, I was just curious as to why you were that strict about those options (which can also be easily changed B) Aisha
-
I would say something like " wow that was lucky p" and add a smile at the end B) or "opps generous today p" again with a smile <_< I find it's the best way not to offend anyone (the smile i mean B) ) Aisha
-
Hello dear one B) I don't have the big book, and I am no qualified director... so here it goes: If you bid 2 hearts (muidiwhatever) showing 5 and 4+ you obviously alert; and when opps ask and you answer correctly ( 5+ hearts and 4+ of a minor)then, IMHO you have given correct information... isn't that what ruling is about? Not misleading opps, so they don't get damaged? (you may mislead your pd though if he/she has no idea and is sitting with 2h)... On the other hand, as The Hog mentioned, it IS a very strict convention and it does show 5-5 (or 4) depends on agreement.... and if that's how alert is explained, then ruling goes against the 2H bidder should be punished.. But the question is about ruling, not about whether it's the correct bid or not, so in my book (the small one) I wouldn't rule against the 2h opener if the alert has been explained properly... Don't take my word for it though, as i am talking logic, and not from a rule oriented decision... <_< Have a nice day Aisha

Oh I like this one! DON'T change time of tourney: (this one is different than the one you mentioned Mirjam) when it says 7 mins to tourney, and you think you have time to make a cup of coffee, you come back knowing you still have 4 mins left before tourney starts, and suddenly pooooooofffffff, you are sitting at the table, and everyone is waiting for you, and about to replace you with sub.... when you ask what happened, TD informs you that he started earlier because tournament filled up... if thats the case, make sure to mention it in tournament description.... I am one of the ones who always reads them... P.S. in this particular tourney, many players were seated, but not there  Aisha
-
Welcome to BBO Helene :) You are absolutely right that it feels very insulting when a partner just leaves suddenly without so much of a white lie  like " sorry p, enjoyed playing, but an emergency has come up"... You will find many rude players but just as many polite ones; it just takes time... and since you are new on BBO and until you find yourself a few "friendly" partners, you will have such experiences... don't let it get you down, it happens to all of us, still!! Tourneys are also great fun, and your partner cannot leave in the middle of it, but if he is unhappy with you, he may make your time miserable with complaints about your play, bid and/or defense..... what i'm trying to say is that you cant run away from unpleasant partners, but you have to go thru a few until you find the right one... There is absolutely no reason why one cannot politely excuse himself from a game in the main bridge club...as mr1303 mentioned in his post, you may want to put a table description for friendly players, it might work, but dont bet on it! P.S. If you come to my table, you will find that some people leave because we chat too much and have a nice time, and you will always be welcome to join  Have a nice day Aisha
