Yes, i had the "flash" option enabled, do you think that is the problem? I also went thru the longer process to fix that... Gerardo's message came much later... I am not sure the "flash" option was available with the 4.2.5 version, which is what 1eyedJack mentioned he was still using..... For me uninstalling and reinstalling seems to have solved a terrible connection/freezing/lagging problem i have been having (for the time being at least) keeping my fingers crossed... Aisha

Ok its fixed now!!! I uninstalled, and reinstalled it completely... all is fine now :) Not a bug after all i guess :blink: P.S. I would like to add that a very dear friend, who would like to remain anonymous (she knows who she is) gave me that suggestion... thank you :P

Hi anyone out there who can help out :blink: I was playing in a tourney tonight, when suddenly the rectangular boxes (NSEW) where the players' nicks are, turned pitch black! The only time the name would appear, is when the player who'se turn it is to bid or play a card. I rebooted, logged in and out BBO a couple of times, but the problem is still persisting... If i hover browser over name, it appears.... As I am writing this post, I am also watching vugraph, and the problem seems to be the same, except that the partnership who'se turn it is to bid can be seen... (so 2 boxes at a time) The left hand top corner at vugraph table , shows the name of one team, the box below is also black... I hope this is temporary, I just thought i should report it, in case someone else has the same problems.. Thank you Aisha

im not that silly after all!!!! Yes you can disallow private chat if you are table host only!!! I tried it.... doesnt work if you are just a guest :rolleyes: so my question still stands... ty aisha

Is there a possibility to have the option for private chat to be turned off while playing in main bridge club? One could switch off private chat, except to opponents, the same as during tourneys.... I realize that playing in the main bridge club is more casual, but a flood of private conversations gets to be very distracting even if they are just greetings and responses...one can of course choose to ignore them, and not reply... anti-social behavior :rolleyes: The only difference is that if you don't answer, it is taken personally, whereas if you just have it turned off completely, even if seems anti-social, it is relatively "less rude"... BBO is a social site and we make a lot of friends but at times i am overwhelmed with the conversations that continue during play in main bridge club, and i find myself making more mistakes than during turneys... (not a good excuse)... One can of course choose to have an invisible table for a serious game, but then friends cannot come and kibb..... chat on table is not as distracting, because it is not as personal (you hope)... This might not be something one might want to do very often, but it is IMO a good option...... I find it's good to have a choice :) Aisha

The download of 4.2.8 worked fine on win98 for me.... i don't know what ME stands for, sorry :rolleyes: aisha

I prefer the previous... if sound was put for the seing impared, they will have trouble reading scores, unless there is an option in "voice" that reads out scores and rankings :lol: Aisha

I felt like a kid playing with a new toy! I couldn't stop laughing.The english accent when speaking french was the best :lol: The lady who welcomes us to BBO would be nice to use as a voice for females, so that we don't all sound like old men with deep throats taped under water (as quoted by 3 different posters). Her voice has presence :lol: . I know this feature was not added for our amusement, and it has a very useful funtion, but for me, until i figure out which of the options would require a voice, i will refrain from turning it on ;) Unless of course i want to play around and try out different situations with voice.... Ever since I downloaded 4.2.7 I am not facing the same amount of freezing as before... it could be a coincidence.... I have a feeling it may have had something to do with my connection which was slow for a few weeks and not BBO... thanks again Aisha

Hi Uday; I had the same problems with 4.2.7 as 2.5.... i reinstalled 4.1.7 and tried it for a long time, to no avail... same thing as the others.... the good news is, the problem is obviously not due to the new versions... i am hoping it will fix itself... unless someone can come up with a solution.. I didnt understand what you meant by "If you can edit a file on your pc using notepad, there may be something worth trying. " I am not computer litterate, so i couldnt figure out what I am supposed to do here... I'm such a nuisance :) Aisha

I downloaded 4.2.7 yesterday, and it actually worked perfectly... maybe some of the bugfixes were fixed :) Unfortunately this wasn't the case today... same freezing problems, and i had to disconnect many times... logging into BBO is not a problem at all.. as a matter of fact its quite fast, and once i come back, everything runs smoothly..... it could be because of vugraph though.... so i am keeping my fingers crossed that it was an isolated problem... I did notice a difference with 4.2.7... Thank you for your help Uday... much appreciated... at least i have something to go back to if things dont get better... aisha

I also thought my problem was due to overload, and yes i noticed close to 8000 users... but last night there were only 3500 and the problems continued... I have just downloaded the old version which Uday suggested 4.1.7, and kibbed a few hands, and i noticed a big difference... speed was back to normal, everything was moving in tempo... I am not sure i can judge from just 2 boards, but will spend some more time trying this one out... i do miss teleportation :) I also have the problems 42 and hotshot mentioned, they seemed to have described what i was trying to explain :) Aisha

Hi Uday (hopefully you are the right person to talk to) Ever since i downloaded this version of BBO i have had problems... I found myslelf freezing (getting stuck) while playing and kibbitzing.. i.e. waiting for a player to make a bid or play a card when they had already done so... when chatting, privately, to kibbers or table, there is a delay... if i stick around long enough, all goes back to normal... if i log off and come back on again, its quite slow... during vugraph, Vegas, and Houston, my problem was amplified... Tonight, it is just as bad, and i couldnt continue playing in a tournament i had registered in.... I checked my RAM and its 248, so I think that is plenty... I shared my problem with steve (2over1) who mentioned he had terrible problems 2 versions ago, and once he upgraded his RAM from 128 to 512 all his troubles were solved... I thought maybe my problems were due to my server, but everything else seems to work well, MSN, YAHOO, internet explorer etc..... the only problem seems to be with BBO... am I the only one experiencing this problem? Have you had any other complaints? I had the occasional "freezing" syndrome on bbo before, and I blamed it on server....... i am now finding it impossible to cope, as it is continuous... I hope you can help me in finding a solution or at least a good reason as to why you think this is happening..... I am extremely frustrated... i am hoping it will resolve itself eventually, but if there is a solution or a reason, it would help me tremendously...... Whether you are playing inverted minors or not, and since North did not overcall with a 1♦ bid, arent you supposed to show a four carder by bidding 1 ♦? 2.) If you are not playing inverted minors 3♠ sounds like nice bid. 3.) If you are playing inverted then hmmm 2 ♣ and then 3♠ sounds descriptive enough, since you would have shown a 4 carder ♠ right away... I also like the 3 ♠ bid, tend to agree with jimmy (as usual) :lol: But he knows that already..... :rolleyes: Aisha

Thanks everyone... since I don't know my partner's hand, it seems you are all in agreement that one should take a false preference to 2♥ and I agree with Jimmy (whatever he says)... The trouble is I thought like Stephen Tu and I am not at all confused with what he said.. I gave my partner 5-5... It would be nice to be able to discuss a bid with a partner, and apologize for making a bad decision... thanks to forums one can do it here... By the way Roland, my expert partner is the one who said he was playing NMF and i should have gone on and bid his first suit, and not pass... so he confused me!!! Yes you are right Roland the 5th card was a club, i fixed it :huh: I don't know what system we were playing since it was a pick up partnership and this was the only hand we bid and off he went... but then I assume when no agreement has been made that we play SAYC...... I had responded 1NT.... I assumed that if my partner had 6♥ he would rebid them.... I do play NMF but decided to pass after a very long pause... I made a choice, it may have been wrong I should have probably bid 2♥ but had he been 5-5 or 6-5 then my pass would have been heroic... He left in a huff and a puff, after many insults and harassing private messages... I had no time to apologize nor explain...
