  1. [hv=s=sqtxhxxdxxxckjxxx]133|100|[/hv] I would like some input and advice on how to bid this hand after my partner opens 1♥ and rebids 2♦ I will tell you what his hand was after I read some of your comments.. Thank you.. Aisha
  2. You mean there are 2 Roland's out there Mark? I hope the other one has a better voice (the non evil one)... Alex, sharpen that pencil quick! Else this thread might die  Jimmy, I agree with you, not bothered by chat at all.... i find it witty ,smart and fun, even though it has nothing to do with bridge at times....... Garozzo and De Falco are having fun, why shouldnt we? See you all tomorrow!! :D Aisha
  3. Best wishes on your birthday Fred :D) We should have a party on BBO :) and Sheri won't have to do the dishes afterwards.... :) Magic can lick them clean :( Have a great day!!! Aisha
  4. Since I play 2♣ GF or 4 loser hand, that's what i would bid....
  5. I am trying to figure out which FRIEND you would be Alex ♥ Joey comes to mind.... Monica
  6. Your purple is my pink, (they say men are colour blind), i got yellow, so far no black :( , but I don't have normal... :) what is that? Don't you see it as Blue? Aisha
  7. Hi Mattias; Is it the BBO sounds you find annoying, or just any sound in particular? There are so many sound alerts for different situations that you would have to find something more pleasant to your ears for each alert.. i.e when recieving a private message, when a friend logs on, when it is your turn to bid or play, when you change tables in a tourney, when you get an invitation to a tourney, and most important, for when a tournament you have been waiting for has started.... Visual alerts with a descriptive prompt would be very practical, if it's possible :))) I do find that the sounds are very useful though, especially when one is away from the pc (well not in some other room, unless you have stereo sound :o At least the sound alert tells you it's time to come back ASAP :)) Having the choice is nice though :) And Frittz, how do you get the other sounds you talk about in your post? and is it possible to have more than one personalized sound which alerts all the different situations i mentioned above? I would love to know how to personalize them <_< Thank you in advance... regards, Aisha
  8. You have 6 types of friends sloffy? Can't wait to read your post after you finish your ohhhh so long meeting <_< What i have done, is fill out the notes facility(as mentioned by Fred)... it comes in very handy, as one can jot down a lot of information about a "PINK".... Aisha
  9. I think Ken may be talking about those who first come onto BBO, and have no idea how they should rate themselves.... and he has a point, because there seems to be a fine line between beginner and intermediate.... otherwise there would'nt be a club which inlcudes both... just like the fine like between advanced and expert... I used to belong to the BIL club, but was kicked out of it by the way.... not for being rude, but just for belonging to another club (best not to mention name) which in BIL's view only accepted adv./exp.players(which i am not!!) And many members percieved it as such. I can assure you there were plenty of intermediates in that club...(at the beginning).. Now this post might be off track, but BIL decided I couldnt play there anymore, because i didnt belong in the Beg./int. category. I wasn't even warned.. one day i just couldnt enter, and had to ask for an explanation..."If one belongs to a club which is seen as having advanced players then they can't play in BIL"... I wish I could have taken that as a compliment. <_< I was learning quite a lot in BIL , and their members were very helpful and friendly... they have a nice little community, and are all super polite.... it's a wonderful place for all, especially new comers who would like to meet people, and are not sure of their skill levels quite yet. A question pops to mind though, where does a novice go? There are a few and they seem to be quite comfortable in the BBO invornment, such as playing in tournaments etc... but for those who really are not at ease, and first join BBO, what can they do? Aisha
  10. That means another colour needs to be added to distinguish different types of friends :) Not such a bad idea imo... :)) i like it Aisha
  11. What's great about BBO is that you can change your skill level as you please :D That doesnt mean you can jump from novice to world class (whatever world one comes from) :) But one can be flexible between intermediate and advanced depending on the day:))) You would have to be very consistent to be a novice/beginner or expert/world class.... Imo,I think most people know what level they are most comfortable in, and that is what the rating system on BBO is all about.. There plenty of experts out there who are very humble and use the advanced level, others over rate their skills.. I don't know where i'm going with this... :) If the rating system on BBO intimidates knew comers, then they should try other sites where the lehman ratings is what counts to get a good game... BBO is a friendly and social site and i have seen stars/world class, play with intermediates as partners.... when friendships are formed, the level becomes secondary... (at times:))) Most tournament directors encourage players to have a good time during the match... and most of us come on line to pass the time, meet new people, from diverse backgrounds and nationalities..... I think Ken, you have a point about encouraging the lesser skilled new comers.. and as jillybean mentioned there are plenty of opportunities offered to them on BBO to improve. So you have not lost, but you just got a long useless post reply from me :)) he he Aisha
  12. I enjoyed seing BBO Headquarters, and Fred was a wonderful host.... I did not however steal any silver, but did get away with a few trophies B) Thank you Fred
  13. Many players sign up for a tournament, and come play at a table to pass the time.... and leave suddenly anyway.... I find it silly if it's half a board :) So why not make it easier for a player to sign up from main bridge club? It's a lovely idea IMO Aisha B)
  14. I had a very bad experience in a tourney with playing TD today.... 25 tables, fair enough! TD was very attentive, always asking if we needed adjusments and subs.... big problem! Tourney chat was not available, private chat to TD not available..... so how do we tell him /her we have a problem? My partner had to write to the lobby to get TD's attention..... now if TD has lobby chat off.... back to square 1 :) So, as all females are allowed, i changed my mind, and decided, it IS a problem if TD is playing..... That's all folks ;)
  15. I agree with Ben that the wording here is wrong.... CAN TD play? Meaning is he/she allowed? Or is he/she able to play and direct at the same time? Some TD's seem very capable at playing and directing.... My hat off to them! ( i wear a headscarf) :P When I register in a tourney where TD IS playing (most do advertise it in Capital Letters) I know what to expect.... subbing is not a problem, since we can sub our partners, but adjusting might be, since it is time consuming.... I would not want to be the partner of the playing TD. Seriously, I don't know how they can concentrate on playing, and answer calls at the same time. Aisha
  16. Having space for a photo or avatar, nice idea, button to boot uwanted kibbs not such a good idea, for the reason Mark mentioned..... How about being able to register in a tourney from the main bridge club, instead of leaving table to do so.... (might have been mentioned before, maybe by me :) ) Aisha
  17. Wonderful Olympiads! Venue great too :) The thank you's remind me of the Oscar speeches (much shorter though).... you all forgot to thank your parents and teachers B)
  18. After a few intense bridge lessons, my partner and myself decided to enter a local tournament..... We were still not familiar with tournament rules, but were quite secure with our simple bidding and communication skills...We were very brave! :) I remember opening 1♥ with about 19pts.... my partner bids STOP 4♥... I continued asking for controls, and we ended up in 6♥.... I am totally blank as to whether we made the contract or not, but my partner was very upset at my bidding... she said " I put STOP so that you would know not to go on with the bidding; otherwise I would not have used the STOP card!!!!" She was extremely angry.. Our teacher had not explained what the STOP stood for, actually we weren't even quite sure how to use the ALERT properly, and had a problem with that too, in the same tournament (another story B) )... She never thought in a million years, we would venture into a tournament with such little knowledge.... You can guess what our next lesson was about :D
  19. Welllll... it's not really a bridge incident but it happened at a bridge table so i presume it counts... B) I was recently in the UK and i played a few nights of bridge at a local club with a fellow member of this forum :D If you dont know who it is or who it may be then no worries. It is irrelevant.. :D It was hot in the bridge room and my p was wearing a jumper. I had told him to take it off but he said he was in a stream of cold air from the open window... B) Two nice old ladies came to the table who appeared to know him quite well. One of them asked "????, take off your jumper. Arent you hot!!?" :) He explained that he wasnt but as the board progressed, the other woman asked him as well. So, flustered, he started to take it off...and then stopped half way, pretending to be shy... (if you can guess who it is, he definitely aint shy).. One of the ladies asked "????, whats wrong? you embarrasssed to take off your jumper?" And my p looked at her and replied "Well, Rita, it is not often i get asked to take off my clothes in front of 3 finnnnnnnnne women. And whenever i have done it in the past i have needed music....and a greasy pole. And by that i am not referring to my ex mother-in-law!!" :P (to understand this he was once married to a Polish woman) :D Well, one of the old ladies looked at him for about 6 seconds with a straight face and then burst into laughter. All 3 of us couldnt continue and we had to take an average on the 3 boards (it was the first board) Well maybe you had to be there...  P.S. There was no greasy pole, no music, so that jumper never came off!!
  20. Hello; I downloaded the new version and the first few times I couldnt see opponents hands when dummy... (which is what the new version is supposed to do). The past few days I was able to see opp's hands... Just thought I would let you know.. Aisha

  23. I tend to agree with Mink on that one..... it's a bit of a hassle..... i prefer the old sequence also.... Aisha P.S. maybe we could vote?
  24. T'was two weeks before labor day When Fred decided to play Tourney ran smooth, without delay Fred chose DeanRover Instead of his regular partner They played as smooth as water T'was opponents honor "so they said" ;) TD was pretty amazed As no added time was to be made Kibbers enjoyed the show Nobody wanted to go Sheri we missed you so.... Ok cheesy, but whateva! incognito
  25. Hello :) Didn't write here for a long time, didn't have much to say ;)( Anywayyyyy, i did download the new version 3.8.2, and all was fine at first..... but after a while I noticed a few glitches..... 1- My screen was moving from left to right 2- My computer slowed down quite a bit (coincidence maybe) 3- This was the worst actually: i got a prompt that there wasnt enough memory for "this program" (and I got that prompt quite a few times and couldnt log back in after wards) I had to delete a bunch of temporary files, reboot, and now, so far so good.... I am not sure this is due to the new version, but all this happened after I downloaded it..... I wonder if any of you encountered the same problems..... Other than that, looks good  Aisha
