[hv=d=w&v=b&s=s76ha1065daj3ck965]133|100|Scoring: MP WEST NORTH EAST SOUTH 1♠ pass 2♦ pass 2♠ pass 2NT pass pass pass [/hv] Assuming you lead 4th-best, what is your lead and why? Do you general lead a major? Do you prefer to lead from A10xx instead of K9xx? Can it be wise to lead openers rebid suit? Edited: Sorry I posted this in the wrong folder. Maybe someone of the admins can shift to the "Beginners and Intermediates" Forum. Thank you.

1♦ 1♥ 2♣ shows a minimum opener with 5♦s and 4♣s, and is not forcing? Right? 2♦ is a signoff-bid. 2♠ must be a game-invite to 3NT. I would treat 2♠ as FSF asking for ♠-stopper. If you had the ♠s stopped yourself, you would bid 2NT. Openers distribution must be 3154 2254 or (unlikely) 3064 2164.

Best book to learn how to play the cards
xx1943 replied to xx1943's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Hi I reread this post today by chance and found it exactly so instructive and informative as 2 years ago. Maybe it can be pinned anywhere for newcomers? Ty all who shared their knowledge. Regards Al -
Many thanks for all your answers. At the table i got this one wrong, applying restricted choice and thinking very proud of me, when I did --- until West made his 10 and I went down. :o I'm with the majority that East would not lead the 2 from A1032, but at the table I didn't even madev this refelections. Is saw the J, thought PorC and finessed. grrrrrrrrrrrrr

[hv=d=n&v=e&n=s97hkq94dj973ck95&s=sakh8765dat86ca87]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] West North East South - Pass Pass 1NT Pass 2♣ Pass 2♥ Pass 4♥ Pass Pass Pass Against your 4♥ contract West leads the trump2 and East throws the J under your Q. You go to your hand with a ♠ and when you lead a small ♥, West produces the 3. Now what? What is the best chance to lose only 1 trump trick? Should you finesse the ♥9 applying principle of restricted choice or should you play the K arguing East would not have led the 2 from A1032? Happy new year to all. Al

[hv=d=s&v=n&n=s2h972da853ckqj94&s=sakqt64hdqt74ct75]133|200|Scoring: IMP West North East South - - - 1♠ Dbl 2♣ Pass 2♠ 3♥ pass Pass 4♦ Pass 5♦ Pass Pass Dbl Pass Pass Pass [/hv] After a very bad bidding you find yourself in a bad contract. I posted a poll here in BBF about this bidding. Maybe you wish to have a look. To calm partner you have to win this contract, if there is any chance. LHO opens the A of ♥, which you ruff in your hand. You have a sure loser in ♣, so you have to minimize the trump loser to one. How do you hope the trumps are divided between the opponents?? How do you handle the trumps? If you are not beginner or intermediate, please answer with "hidden" text. Thank you Wish you all a happy new year. Al

[hv=d=e&v=n&s=sqj2hadakqt73cak3]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] West North East South ......... ........ .4♥.... ??? I'm really unsure, what to bid with this monster. I don't like the X or 5♥ with only 3♠s. 6♦ gives up every chance of 7? 4Nt is a blunder Least of evils seems me 5♥. this is the full hand: [hv=d=e&v=n&n=sak8764hjd95cj765&w=st95h942d862cqt42&e=s3hkqt87653dj4c98&s=sqj2hadakqt73cak3]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv] West North East South ......... ........ .4♥.... ??? Even after 5♥ from South I see no good way to 7♠. If you look the traveller 7♠ was found only, when East allowed South to open 2♣. Now it is easy. B) Wish you all merry Christmas and a happy new year, nice opponents and patient partners. Cheers Al

After you and WEST passed, your partner opens 2NT (20-22 HCP; balanced or semibalanced), East passes and it is your bid [hv=d=s&v=e&s=s93h752daj7642c97]133|100|Scoring: IMP pass pass 2NT pass ????[/hv] Now what? Imho the normal reaction is 3NT. No slam in sight and semibalanced hand with a nice 6-carder. 25-26 HCP between the 2 hands. 3NT should be made more often than 5 ♦ in the long run. What about other bids? 3♣ is puppet, you'll get no information about minors. 3♦ is xfer to hearts 3♠? How do you treat this feature? With which hands you aplly it and what or openers answers? 4♦ is Xfer to hearts, isn't it? But what is the difference betwen 3 or 4 ♦?? This was the full hand. 3Nt is down after ♥-lead and 5♦ is made. Just bad luck or bad bidding? [hv=d=s&v=e&n=skqj5ha8dkq8cajt6&w=st8764hktdt95cq32&e=sa2hqj9643d3ck854&s=s93h752daj7642c97]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Btw. What do you think the answering structure after 2NT. Is this hand another argument for playing a strong-club-system? Looking forward to hear your opinions. Al

Sry You are rite that is a good alternative, but I forgot it. 2♠ seems me the best bid. Even better than my suggested pass. Ty for your help. Al

[hv=d=s&v=n&s=sakjxhxxdkqxxcqjx]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Your system: 2/1 with weak NT(12-14) inverted minors......... You open 1♦, because you play 12-14 NT LHO pass partner bids 1NT (6-10; denying 4-card major, but maybe unbalanced) RHO 2♥ what is your bid? 1) pass with nice 16 HCP and pd may have 10 2) penalty double without hearts?? 3) Neg double wouzld be nice, but this double is for business imho. 4) 2NT without any idea to stop the hearts? 5) 3 hearts seems me a great overbid. Should show 18-19 HCP Excluding all other possibilities I think pass is the least of all evils. Particularly because Partner has the possibility to balance. I'm interested to hear your opininons. Al

This is the complete deal [hv=d=n&v=a&n=sj843hkj7dq983ct9&w=st952ha62dj542cq3&e=saq76hq843dtcakj8&s=skht95dak76c76542]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv] West North East South - Pass 1♣ Pass 1♠ Pass 4♠ Pass Pass Pass After going -1 I had the bad feeling, that my play was suboptimal. I tried the ♠-finesse to the 2. trick. I hoped West having Kx or Kxx in ♠s. this chance is about 34%. I'm wondering if there is a line with greater percentage for success. My stomach says there must be one. Deep finesse tells: EW can make 3♠. lol Cheers Al

West with ♠10952 is declarer. Dummy has the singleton ♦.

Hi all West and EAST cards showed: [hv=d=n&v=a&w=st952ha62dj542cq3&e=saq76hq843dtcakj8]266|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] West North East South - Pass 1♣ Pass 1♠ Pass 4♠ Pass Pass Pass What is your plan to take 10 tricks or to lose only 3 tricks? Cheers Al

100% agree Great idea, but aren't you going too high with a lot weak hands? Playing 3♦ with Ax,Kx,AJxxxx,xx opposite Kxxx, QJxx, x, xxxx 100% agree Many thanks Al

[hv=d=w&v=e&s=s62hakdakqt9xxcjt]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Hi all!! Imo this is not a 2♣-opener. You have exactly 9 playing tricks and need in a minor 9.5 tricks at least. You cannot make 5♦ without partner having 2 Quick-tricks in the blacks. I can't hard imagine a hand with partner, which makes 3NT and he passes 1♦. Perhaps QTxx,xxx,xx,QTxx and 3NT isn't sure. So I think it is safe to open 1♦. But what is your rebid after partner bids 1♥?? 1) a faky 1♠ forcing but misdescribing 2) 3♦. Is that really forcing? 3) 3NT showing a long and strong minor, but you are open in both blacks. 3NT maybe down, while 6♦ makes opposite Axxx,QJxxx, xxx,x Is this another hand which calls for playing a strong club system? Looking forward your expert comments cheers Al

Rite this is the full hand. [hv=d=w&v=a&n=st5432h74d9ckt742&w=sj9hkq53dak8763ca&e=sa8hajt98dqt42c96&s=skq76h62dj5cqj853]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv] North bids 4♠ after 3 ♦, 3♥ or 4♥ but 5♠ after 4♣ or 4♦. Do you see any chance to reach the grand? How would you bid without opponents intervention? Al

[hv=d=w&v=b&s=sj9hkq53dkq8763ca]133|100|Scoring: IMP you open 1♦, partner answers 1 ♥ and RHO doubles, what is your rebid?[/hv] This hand came up in a BIL-team-match and we couldn'T agree, what you should bid with this hand. Perhaps the experts can help with their opinions. Thanks Al
