http://www.bridgebase.com/tools/handviewer.html?myhand=M-23835739-1305731521 After trump lead and 3 rounds of trumps the slam cannot be lost against any distribution. The GIb found a way to go down :o Btw. Is it possible to enlarge the diagram?

Hi Fred If I create a partial deal and click to "Export deal" there is only the choice to present the deal in the handviewer. I couldn't save it. Thanks Al

Upload pre-dealt hands and players from a file
xx1943 replied to allspice's topic in BBO Tournament Directors Forum
Hi Fred, To create a include(exclude)-list is easy. <_< BUT is it possible to save the list for further use in another tournament? I have a list of my students on my HD, which I upload for each teaching tourney. UP to now I do this with V5.2.6 and it works fine. Is it possible to transfer my lists from V5.2.6 to the web-client? Is it possible to create a list on the web-client, that is not only for one tournament? Thanks Al -
[hv=pc=n&s=sq872hajt852d3c82&d=w&v=n&b=12&a=1d2dd]133|200| What should South bid?[/hv] 2 ♦ shows a 2-suiter (at least 5-5) with clubs and a major. The strength is below opening or very strong. What are your agreements in such a situation or similar? Does the double change your choice?

[hv=d=s&v=n&s=saqhk1065daq975ck3]133|100|Scoring: MP South West North East 1♦ pass 1♠ pass ??? [/hv] I would like to hear the opinion of the panel, if you prefer with 2452, 18HCP, honors in the short suits to reverse or to show semibalanced 18-19 HCP. Should the reverse show a really unbalanced hand 1453 or more unbalanced? What is your strategy?

you are right, I forgot the penalty double as choice :(

[hv=d=s&v=n&s=skq2hak9753dkjt2c]133|100|Scoring: IMP

SOUTH WEST NORTH EAST 1♥ pass 1NT 2♠ ??? You play 2/1, 1NT is forcing for 1 round.[/hv] If you scroll down, you'll find the complete hand and the story to it. This was the full hand [hv=d=s&v=n&n=sa10xh10daxxxxxcjxx&w=sjxhqxxxdxxcqxxxx&e=sxxxxxhjxdqcak10xx&s=skqxhakxxxxdkj10xc]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Our teammates bid: SOUTH WEST NORTH EAST 1♥ pass 1NT 2♠ 3♥ pass 3NT pass pass pass ♣-lead and down one. At our table the opponents didn't play 2/1 and they went easy to 6♦ and were on the way to 7♦ SOUTH WEST NORTH EAST 1♥ pass 2♦ pass It is not my style to bid 2♠ as overcall on that lousy suit. 3♦ pass 5♦ pass 6♣ pass 6♦ pass pass pass Easily made 7. We lost 1490 and 16 IMPs ;) 3 questions: 1) Who is to blame for the 3NT desaster? 2) How do you bid this slam (at least 6♦ using 2/1? 3) Would you bid the East hand at the 2 level? Thanks in advance for your answers With kind regards Al

Hmhh; 2NT as good-bad in this situation is a nice idea. But will partner be aware and not take the bid as natural? Sorry I forgot the 2NT give as choice. with kind regards Al

[hv=d=e&v=n&s=skqt2hadkqt2ct432]133|100|Scoring: IMP North East South West --- 1♠ pass pass 2♣ 2♦ ???[/hv] 3NT is not very attractive with stiff ♥A and 5♣ is a very long way. Opener is marked with ♠A and ♦A and may easily have a ♣ trick. How do you explore the chances?

Card combination help
xx1943 replied to fingolfin3's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
There is a great little tool available called suitplay This tool answers all the questions how to play a special suit combination correct. suitplay If you type in the the given hands, you get the result that it is best (81,96%) to lead the Q and play low towards the 9, ithe Q is covered. You win 4 tricks with this line in 25 cases und lose in the 7 cases when LHO holds: void, 5; K; K1075 K1085 K1087 and K10875. You win e.g. against the singleton 7, 8 or 10 with LHO or singleton K with RHO. -
Many thanks to all who answered. This was the complete hand I must play 5♣ in a 3-2 fit [hv=n=sakj632ha9xda10cqx&w=sqxhqxxdkxxctxxxx&e=sxhkxdqxxxxxxckxx&s=s10xxxhjtxxxdjcajx]399|300|[/hv]

N/S vulnerable the bidding goes: 2♦ pass pass 4♠ pass 5♣ You (South) passed after LHO opens a weak 2♦, partner bids a confidently 4♠. What is the meaning of your 5♣ bid here? Imho there can be no doubt about the meaning, but 2 of my partners disagreed with me. That is why I wrote this post. Al

[hv=d=s&v=n&s=sakthakqj9d54c632]133|100|Scoring: IMP 1♥ pass 1♠ pass ???[/hv] You have a nice hand with 17 HCP and a great heart suit. 1♥ should be the standard opening. to think about 1NT seems abstrus to me. Partner responds 1♠. Now you have a choice of evils. 2♥ is a great undebid 2♠ promises normally a 4-carder and is an underbid too 2NT without any stopper in the minors grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr 3♣ is forcing and can be a 3-carder but on 632??? 3♦ is just more worse than 3♣ 3♥ should show a 6-carder, but seems the best lye with that monster 5-carder 3♠ should definitely show a 4-carder Looking forward to hear the opinion of the experts

[hv=d=s&v=b&s=st63h73daq4cq8764]133|100|Scoring: IMP you pass, LHO opens 1♥, partner doubles and RHO raises to 3♥ which is alerted as preempt[/hv] What is the meaning of double in your system here? Is this double M. Bergens thrump double? for the full hand scroll down. [hv=d=s&v=b&n=sakj9h8d853cajt52&w=sq54hakj542dj2c93&e=s872hqt96dkt976ck&s=st63h73daq4cq8764]399|300|Scoring: IMP 6♣ needs 2 out 3 finesses and friendly ♠. 5♣need only 1 out of 3 finesses and a 4th ♠ trick for a ♦to discard.[/hv] Any suggestin how this should be bid? Btw. Due to the ♦ tenace South as declarer is preferred :)

He doesn't lead a ♥ from dummy. He pitches dummy's ♥ on the 4th ♠ and LHO has the lead, who cannot give himslef a ruff LOL

How to play this one
xx1943 replied to xx1943's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Vuroth gave you the complete solution. I posted the hand, because I was curious why 10 declarers in BBO made only 7,8 or 9 tricks in this simple hand. You need the ♦ distributed 3-3 or Jx to have a real chance. Link to the traveller in my hands -
[hv=d=n&v=a&n=shaq52dkqt98cat32&s=st8763hj983da4cq7]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] West North East South - 1♦ Pass 1♠ Pass 2♣ Pass 2♥ Pass 4♥ Pass Pass Pass Trick 1: ♥ ♥ ♥K ♥ won by EAST Trick 2: ♣9 ♣Q ♣K ♣A won by North Trick 3: ♥ ♣ ♥J ♥ won by South Take it from here. What is your plan? You lost a trump already and have 3♣ losers in dummy. Which assumption about the ♦ distribution is probably necessary? This hand I kibbed today in BBO and only one out of 16 made 10 tricks in ♥. 13 went down from 1 to 3. Im sure, you'll do better, if you think of it. Enjoy Al

Hi Karl, if I click a second time on the alertable bid (2♦) in your Mc-Bruce example, the alert box vanishes. Al

Strong jump shift?
xx1943 replied to el mister's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
The rule in modern systems is: Bid slow with strong hands. So in this systems almost all jumps are played weak or with some special well defined meaning (splinter etc ...). The philosophy in ACOL is to jump to show strength so you should play sJS if you play ACOL. No system is perfect. The vakue of the "rite" system is overestimated imho. You and your partner should know the meaning of your bids. Make agreements to minimize misunderstandings. The art is bidding is to find the best bid in the system you actual agreed on with partner. In this sense I say: Try to improve your bidding judgment is much more important than the question, which system do you play. I personally prefer to play a system as simple as possible, because I like to use my little grey cells for bidding judgement and play and defense and not to remember difficult conventions. Btw. I try to play 2/1 and wjs 1minor - 1major showing a 6-carder too weak to answer 1 major. (Such a nasty hand holding Jxxxxx, xxx, xxx,x and partner opens 1♣. Playing sjs you must pass and hope for the best. But be aware both methods may occasionally lead to bad or good or lucky results. It is the same with weak NT, weak 2-openings, multi, flannery .................. All these tools have their merits and their flaws. Agree with your partner, what you like most, but agree, agree, agree. Al -
Today I tried a slam in money-bridge. I should have known better, bid 6♣ and the hand myself. Perhaps 6♣ is the better contract anyway, so I got what I deserved. There are 12 tricks from the top to take without finesse: 1♠+2♥+3♦+6♣ At trick 2 the GIB discarded one of his ♣-winners and went down 1. I posted the hand on my blog. Does anyone know, if the Gib's programmers are interested to know such happenings??? Regards Al

But how to upload hands from my HD to a teaching table? And how to upload predealt hands to a tourney?
-
If you have 3 possible answers the 2 level is to play, the 3-level is game force and the Lebensohl sequence is inviting. If you have only 2 possible answers the invite is omitted. This is the standard Lebensohl after 1NT and should be the same after 2suit X: 2♥ X pass 2♠ to play 2♥ X pass 2NT pass 3♣ pass 3♠ invite 2♥ X pass 3♠ GF 2♠ X pass 2NT pass 3♣ pass 3♥ not forcing maybe very weak 2♠ X pass 3♥ forcing btw. It is not possible to bid 100% scientific after a preempt. There is a lot of space for good judgement. Most players go for the motto: "when in doubt, bid one more". My experience is that opponents tend to overbid after after a preempt. I got more oftenbenefit from preempts, when opponents went overboard than that the preempt prevented them finding their game.
